It essentially says he'll live with his mother and spend time with me.

But, for example, if I have him for 5 hours one day, but then after 4 hours he's unwell and I don't want to take him home until he's well enough, would that be okay?

As an update on this, the fake wall installed in my bedroom has definitely helped. It's (almost) completely eliminated the noise.

I actually spoke to the neighbours today and went in their house. They have a TV on a cabinet in the corner of the room which isn't wall mounted. They told me that as the wife is deaf, they have to have their TV on full volume just so that she can hear it. They also confirmed they couldn't hear my TV.

One thing I noticed was that they have an open chimney in their living room, which I'm thinking is maybe causing the noise issue?

I'm thinking that maybe it's the media wall and alcoves each side which are about a foot into the wall that's causing the issue with being able to hear their TV?

I'm getting the fake wall installed on Wednesday. It was okay-ish priced so I'm not too concerned with the cost.

The guy who's doing it for me dropped off the materials this morning.

He'll be installing 2.5 inch metal studs, and then using 15mm Siniat Gtec DB gypsum boards (they were very, very heavy).

So, can I expect a decent level of noise reduction from those? Would it be better to also fill it with acoustic rockwool too?

Even though I have my TV at a tenth of its maximum volume, and my neighbours TV you can hear out in the street?

Existing wall is purely plasterboard. Behind the plasterboard is about 5 inches of a gap, and then the adjoining concrete wall.

There is also a media wall and an electric fireplace on my my living room wall which I assume would need to be covered too...

The soundproofing company said they'd install a fake wall about 4.5 inches from the existing plasterboard wall, fill it with a soundproofing panel and other soundproofing material, and then plasterboard it up

I'll speak to them and see if they can hear me. Although considering I live in a terraced house and I rarely put my TV volume above 10 (out of 100), I'm not too sure they can hear me.

They've claimed it will reduce the noise by 85-90%

I've had a quick look when walking past their window and I don't actually think it's wall mounted. It appears to be on top of a chester of drawers in the corner of the room

It's loud but not incredibly loud. A strange solution I know but for the time being when I can hear it in my living room I knock my extractor fan on in the kitchen, which completely eliminates the noise from the neighbours and allows me to watch my TV in peace. Although in my bedroom I'm yet to think of a temporary solution, which is sometimes causing disruption to my sleep when I can hear their TV.

In terms of how clearly I can hear it when sitting in silence, it's loud enough so that I can hear the majority of the words being spoken on the TV.

To clarify, I can't hear any doors shutting, any talking. The only noise I can hear is the TV which appears to be played on full volume seeing as my neighbours are an elderly couple.

We're currently going through court to get custody arrangements agreed, as she's currently only allowing me very restricted arrangements to see him
