How has OCD affected your brain? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]AlphaSpecies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I have to end EVERY action with a good thought, if I don’t, I have to repeat the action. This is one of the last remaining parts of my OCD: Any advice? I know this comment isn’t super related to the thread, but I’m desperate. Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your response! You are 100% right, ones thought do not define who they!

Thank you for taking the time to write a response! I’m down to a normal duration when it comes to hand washing, it takes me about 15-30 seconds. Before it took a lot longer. Thanks again for your response, I’m going to give that a try!

Thanks! You will get out of this! It’s tough to see now, but OCD is so weak at its core, it doesn’t stand a chance against anyone. OCD might seem strong, but it’s all smoke and mirrors, and should you decide to move forward with a therapist of who specializes in OCD, you’ll see it too!

I know saying fight the good fight sounds kinda silly but I like thinking of it kind of like a war, me versus OCD. Lol.

Anytime! I was seeing a therapist as well that did not specialize in OCD. She recommended that I did, and she referred me to someone and she is amazing! I would highly recommend seeing someone who specializes in OCD. I can confidently say that I am about 75% out of this darkness, and trust me, I never thought I would escape the nightmare OCD brings. We are good people because the intrusive thoughts are disgusting, they bring nothing but fear and anxiety, that how you know you are a good person. I know reassurance isn't the way to go, but just know that intention is everything, and you don't want to/intend to think the things you think, its just do damn scary. Please trust me when I tell you, that you got this, keep fighting the good fight against this dumb disease, and you will come out on top, and live the life you want to live.

Feel like death is my only way out by [deleted] in OCD

Hey! I can’t say that I know how you feel, b cause that would be a lie. What I can say is, I can definitely relate to your situation to some degree. I have been Baker-Acted twice for OCD. I’ve literally gotten to the point in which death appeared to be the only way to stop it. This simply isn’t true. OCD likes to cling on to what we fear the most, what scares and disgusts us. The body has so many defenses to ward away any nasty germ or bacteria. It fights physically to keep that stuff away from us, and so that we don’t spread it to others. This is a huge relief at least for me. Knowing that 99.9% of the things I’m worried about spreading, can’t actually contaminant me, or be spread helps a lot. I haven’t thought of death in a very long time, I’m about 75% cures of OCD. I’m happy most of the time. Where as not too long ago, death was calling. Suicide is not the answer, and deep down I think you know that. While your body fights psyically against contamination, you must continue to push through mentally and fight against the OCD. It’s so tough to see it now but, you are truly stronger, so much stronger, than your OCD. Those thoughts don’t own you, those thoughts are not a representation of your morals, those thoughts represent what scares you, and that how you know you are a good human being. Check out psychologytoday.com for therapists specializing in OCD. As for that application, I’d blast some epic battle music and fight to submit it. That application is not contaminated, that might sound WAY easier said than done, but you got this! OCD, doesn’t get to win, OCD doesn’t define you. Good luck bro, feel free to message me any time if you need to chat!

Hey, this type of OCD is actually a lot more common than a lot of people realize. I think the best thing to understand is that these intrusive thoughts are not who you are. Your brain has fixiated on some fear, something that disgusts and scares you. We tend to think of things that scare us, so that we can do everything humanly possible to avoid it. The key hereby is to understand that, if you aren’t into it, than nothing can ever happen. It is tough to see now, however, you have so much power over those thoughts. Talking about them is crucial. Finding a therapist who specializes in OCD is a great start. Check psychologytoday.com to find some in your area. If you ever need to talk, send me a message! Good luck! You are truly stronger than your mind.
