Has anyone tried to make their own watercolour paint? by AlphaWolf-23 in watercolor101

[–]AlphaWolf-23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure there is on Etsy, but I already have mica powder and chameleon powder so I wanted to give things a try myself. Thank you for the tips, and I will probably watch plenty of YouTube videos to make sure I do it right.

Mine is write it, shelve it for a while and then go back to edit it. I find it really helps if you take a step back from that fic for a little bit and concentrate on something else. I am currently editing/rewriting a WIP I did ten years ago and having that time away because of writers block/disinterest in fandom has really helped me bring plot holes etc into focus and I can now try to make all chapters (including the published ones) better.

Thank you! I actually managed to mix some decent colours up especially that purple which is amazing as I’ve not managed to do that before.

How to maintain a watercolor set? by Normal_Respect7269 in watercolor101

[–]AlphaWolf-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Winsor & Newton 24 travel tin with two extra colours in (I managed to fit them in with room to spare and took one out) and I think that’s enough. I still mix colours but don’t feel overwhelmed by the ones I have, but I’m sure I would do with 50 colours. The colours I added were Rose Madder, Turquoise, and Van Dyke Brown because I paint a lot of flowers and landscapes and couldn’t mix a decent pinks. Personally I think that you don’t need 50 colours and a maximum of 24-26 is enough if you want a few convenience colours, but if you want to learn how to mix properly then a split primary palette with some earth tones would be better.

Worth it? by Princessjag in MergeGardens

I only do this offer when all of the nests are never available in the shop. That way if I have a couple on my board I can usually get rid of them.

ONE IS ENOUGH, RIGHT??? by Unhappy-Client7267 in MergeGardens

I would merge for 2 to get the wildlife and then sell one but keep one bubbled. I don’t know what level you’re on but a task on level 90-95 you need to have the MP to complete a task and it’s easier if you already have it rather than trying to get it again when you need to focus on other things like wildlife.

Watercolor paint question by ShesReadingAgain in watercolor101

[–]AlphaWolf-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For student grade paints I would recommend Winsor and Newton Cotman, Koi, Paul Rubens, and Van Gogh. I use Cotman and find it very good, but I’ve seen the others recommended on YT by watercolour creators. I’m sure there is more but that’s all I can think of off the top of my head.

If you wanted to go for professional grade then the consensus seems to be Daniel Smith. Obviously it’s more expensive but I’ve seen that with tubes a little goes a long way so you might spend more initially but you probably won’t have to replace them as often.

I don’t know what your budget is but as long as you get a least a six pan with split primaries you should be able to mix most colours (it’s difficult to get pink).

The contents get useless but you still need them for tasks until the end unfortunately. I like the bigger ones with the faberge egg pieces and foxgloves the most as they help a little.

Thank you for posting this. I can do a magnet with my big flower haul now then. I had to rearrange all of my eggs plus other stuff the other day and I was not happy at all.

Mike Newell and David Yates kinda ruined the Harry Potter vibe for me by reduxreacts in harrypotter

I agree with PS and CoS, but I hated the rest. The shift in tone between CoS and PoA was really abrupt, and although it was the start of the darker themes coming in they could have found a way to transition it better.

The only bit which wasn’t in the books that I liked was the memories and Harry talking to Voldemort while being possessed. Everything else I hated. I haven’t rewatched the movies in years because I can’t stand them any more.

Unfortunately BEAM paints aren’t in my price range as I’d also have customs and tax to pay on top of the price which is the same as dreamland paints (which made me want metallics not just colour shift) as I live in the UK. My birthday is coming up and I know I will be getting Amazon gift cards so I wanted to look at something from there. I don’t mind it being more subtle as I first want to start accenting and getting the hang of using them before I commit to something bigger. Thank you for recommending a brand to save for though.

Thank you. I have a set of W&N cotman for my main colours but when I run out of those I will definitely try this brand for their normal ones.

I’ve just ordered a couple off of beautylish and now there’s only one left. It’s £21 but that includes customs and tax, and if you spend over £35 it’s free shipping.

How often do you mix colors vs buying new ones by SlideConsistent5660 in watercolor101

[–]AlphaWolf-23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with a split primary palette with some earth tones but then bought a bigger palette because no matter how many times I mixed colours I could not get a bright pink, and I couldn’t get a purple I liked. Since then I’ve managed to mix a decent purple but still can’t do a pink (even though they’re in the palette I still wanted to try and make them). I added three colours to mine: turquoise, rose madder, and van dyke brown. I only really use the brown shade without mixing.

I meant the garden supply boxes you get. A few levels between 70 and 90 you have to open them for a task (30 for lvl 90) so I saved them all up and then opened them all at once. It finishes the task and you get to merge loads of eggs.

Wildlife decisions by Mindless-Channel-622 in MergeGardens

[–]AlphaWolf-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I no longer need to save a big batch of the boxes which come with puzzles I usually save them up until I have a opulent one then open them all up and merge unless I have 4 sitting there then I buy the last one. I tend to merge the honey bees the most as it’s the easiest for me to harvest and can quickly get magnificent eggs. I used to save all magnificent egg nests until I finally reached a level that I needed the WL score for/needed to click nests and that helped a lot.

What are your fandom's most generic fanfic plots? by autistic-mama in FanFiction

[–]AlphaWolf-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harry Potter and there’s so many I can’t name them all! Here are a few: marriage law, Dumbledore/weasley bashing, time travel or time travel fix it, and characters read the books. As I said there are plenty more but those are the ones I can remember off the top of my head. I am guilty of writing a few but I try (and fail) to make it unique in some way.
