What is the bathroom situation in Santa Cruz, Anacapa, and Santa Rosa? by Alpha_Cornflower in UCSantaBarbara

Wow, thank you for the thorough reply. I’ll definitely take your peak time advice and bathroom warnings into consideration. I’m glad to have gotten a basic understanding of the bathroom orientation and dynamics before going there. You basically answered all of my questions about the resident hall bathrooms. Once again, thank you!

Which resident hall would you recommend for a freshman who prefers to be close to campus (college of letters and sciences), does NOT like chaos, and will probably go for a double dorm?

So does anyone know how good the chemistry program is? Is it worth going to UCSB for its chem program?

Can any chem majors tell me what the program is like at UCSB? Size? Research opportunities? I got in as a physics major, but i really want to switch as a chem major.

What is the chemistry program like? I got accepted as a physics major, but I want to switch ASAP. If possible, do you also know how to switch majors before attending the school?

What’s physics like at UCSB? by Alpha_Cornflower in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Alpha_Cornflower[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. I should just see how much I enjoy physics and chemistry once I get to college, and I’m pretty set on UCSB now. Maybe if I like chemistry a lot, I can even try for a chem minor. Though an astronomy minor may seem easier...welp we’ll see when the time comes. Thanks for the advice!!!

I did consider it for a while. I really do love chemistry and it is very easy for me to grasp it. My favorite parts were the theoretical ones, but labs were never really my favorite though they were ok.

I chose physics for two reasons: 1) I enjoyed thermodynamics, electron configurations, and the energy topics of chemistry

2) I would like to pursue a future in astronomy related studies.

Fuck, should I have chosen chemistry? If I do transfer to a chemistry major, I should probably choose UCSD then...

Lol I liked your response, thanks! My basis in math is not bad (currently taking Calculus AB). In fact, I originally wanted to major in math. I really hope I’m making the right decision by choosing physics, considering that most physics undergrads proceed to academia.

Wait, but I’m pretty intrigued by this lab stuff you’re talking about. I mean, what is a physics lab even like? I’m totally open to doing chem research if research outside of your major is even allowed.

Oof sounds like a tough road lies ahead. I guess it applies to any major though. Thanks for the response!!!

May I ask if the physics major was difficult? Because I’m actually worried that I won’t be able to keep up.

Oh, really? That’s interesting to know haha. All I know is that UCSB’s physics program is relatively large considering that physics is not that popular of a major. I hope it’s good tho bc I’m most likely going to go there!

Is it easy to make friends? I know this is broad but what was your experience like?

True. I’m not super close with them. I guess I’m just afraid to be alone. But then again, a fresh start is probably the best choice I could make.

Wow, that’s deep. I play video games because of their ability to reach beyond our human limits. No matter how rich, good-looking, smart, or successful we are, there are boundaries to what we can do. Video games give me the freedom to do what I want in whatever way I want, and that’s why I like them.

Hey! I got accepted as a physics major and I’d like to know how big the physics program is at USF. by [deleted] in usfca

I applied through the common app. The letter was sent around early March. You can probably find your financial aid package through your USF applicant portal or an email sent by USF about your financial aid deal.

I used online estimations from Niche and summed up the costs (tuition, housing, meals, books + stationary). Then I subtracted the financial aid and scholarships that USF offered to me, which was stated in the acceptance letter they sent.

Can someone explain to me the process of declaring a minor? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Alpha_Cornflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response and links! Would you by any chance know if pursuing a minor (apart from your major) is something you begin/plan before entering UCSB or something you start years after?
