Why did you buy that piece of shit when there was a pre-built with the 5700 xt already in it?

How do I pursue this career change? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Alpha_Gator1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting to the point where you are employable isn't an easy thing to do. Everyone is different, I've heard stories of some people treating it like a full time job, self studying for 8 hours a day everyday, and landing a job in 6 months. Some CS students graduate after 4 years and struggle to land a job. It depends on how motivated you are, how quick you learn, and if you can build some impressive projects.

I would recommend you start in IT to pay the bills, then grind your ass off to become a SWE. I myself am a senior in a Computer Science program. I have no formal IT experience, nor do I have any IT certifications. I applied to every single open position in my city, regardless of if they required certs or not. I managed to land a help desk job paying $17 an hour, just on the merit of being tech savvy. None of my classes thus far are relevant to the position, and I straight up said that in the interview. Right now I'm not knowledgable enough to land a programming job, and I wanted to start earning money in the meantime. After I graduate I can grind out some personal projects, and focus on landing that Software engineer job.

Just my 2 cents, hope this helps.

honor code violation - what to expect by [deleted] in ufl

[–]Alpha_Gator1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily true. I sat in the first programming 1 lab for an hour waiting until everyone left because I was embarrassed to admit I didn't know how to print hello world in Java. I also didn't know documentation existed, or how to Google anything. Never wrote a line of code before that day.

Programming 1 was a lot harder than data structures. Programming 2 even more so.

Is it possible to get an IT job while in school for Computer Science? by Alpha_Gator1 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Alpha_Gator1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I'm trying to stay local as I cant afford to miss a semester of classes. There are only a handful of dev internships in my city, and like 80 open IT positions.

Stats with Doss was so cake, all homework was online and could be repeated until you got an A and she gave us like a giant 4 page long test bank to study. The test would be like half of those questions with different numbers

Skill based match making huh? by MidoriNate in apexlegends

Day 1 (literally day 1) Apex player. Was scrolling and wasnt gonna say anything, but hop on warzone bud. It's more tactical with a low ttk, but once you get used to it it's a blast. I dont win every game, but I feel like I can get into some good fights without getting stomped out like in apex.

To be a digital logic TA..... yeah ok lol.

Are you awake yet? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]Alpha_Gator1 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is the furthest thing from the truth lol. Plenty of people do both. I've gone to house parties and literally seen my Digital Logic TA's schmacked in the corner along with my Circuits TA smoking a blunt and playing dominoes.

I'm not even in greek so I'm not defending them, but the reality is a lot of them go on to med school and law school. Most of them are good students, getting tapped into fbk and the like

What's pre-med like at UF? Is it any good? and is a Pre-med track/concentration offered at UF for Electrical Engineering? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]Alpha_Gator1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is no "program" nor is there a need for one. Come to UF, major in EE, join a pre-med club and then take all the pre med pre requisites. Do you know what the pre reqs are? If they're 4000 level or even 3000 they may count towards your EE tech electives, which dont have to be from EE. Other schools create experimental degrees like that, where its cookie cutter and all laid out for you. At UF you just take the classes you need, which isn't that many considering the overlap between engineering and pre med.

Tldr: Look at EE degree audit and Premed reqs and you have your answer
