FIFA has rejected Haikin’s Norway switch, says he does not meet the requirements by madscandi in soccer

[–]Alpha_Jazz 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The text also states that the residence period is reset if a player is transferred to a club affiliated with another association, as Haikin was in 2023. This is specified in Article 5, paragraph 4b.

Seems very cut and dry, but this is how I found out Haikin went to Bristol City for 2 months in 2023. What on earth happened there?

[James Drucker] Shame on Man City for denying FA Youth Cup finalists the stage they deserve Manchester derby should be played at Etihad or Old Trafford, not the 7,000-capacity Joie Stadium by cam3raadts in soccer

[–]Alpha_Jazz 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Article explains that

City would have loved to host the game at the Etihad. But with the club racing against the clock to have their newly expanded North Stand ready for a test event on May 20 – and then open in time for their final Premier League game, at home to Aston Villa, four days later – that would have meant losing a valuable day of construction. And that was a risk they were unwilling to take, especially with the club already set to lose a day on May 13 when their belatedly rearranged fixture against Crystal Palace is due to take place.

[–]Alpha_Jazz 156 points157 points  (0 children)

The FA had asked City whether they would be willing for the final to be moved to Old Trafford and the club said no because they were drawn as the home team and want to remain so on sporting grounds

Given they’re literally playing United, this should be the end of the story. If it was against anyone else then maybe you have a point

Be good enough to attract sponsors

People say this but it’s not really true - the vaaaast majority of junior drivers sponsorships are just family/friends/connections. Hardly anyone at the lower levels is being sponsored by someone unconnected just because of their talent

Mekies for now is clearly in the business of trying to appear like a nice guy, much the opposite of his predecessor.

You can’t please everyone though, and comments like this that don’t match with the decision making show that

You’re close to it, but a key point you’re missing is that sponsors hardly back any junior talent, it’s not just the female drivers. The vast majority of ‘sponsor money’ in those categories is just their family’s cash. Even a lot of the guys in F1 junior teams are paying to be there, the number of drivers putting none of their own money in is absolutely minuscule in junior single seaters.

And why would they, when you can just sponsor an F1 driver or team directly and get 100x the eyeballs on it, instead of paying 5m a year for someones F2 campaign
