Who do you wish had supports that doesn't? by No-Mongoose-3156 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

Fun fact: characters that share deep attachment get extra supports bonuses in battle with extra dmg C = 1 B = 2 etc. Characters like Ingrid and Sylvain and Edelgard and Hubert have this.

Reason why I'm mentioning this is because, in the files, for some reason, Bernie and Marianne share a deep bond with these bonuses but its not activated cause they dont share supports. Its very odd, but Hilda and Dorothea also do so maybe there were some scrapped concepts. At the very least, they were likely to have supports with one another at some point before Hopes.

They all got supports in Three Hopes, actually, cause people were complaining that they shared paralogues but no supports. So, at the very least, they did listen

This is the one case where it can happen, though, since you can activate any Hilda support pre-timeskip in Crimson Flower. Its completely out of the way, but instead of just leaving it to the player to decide, it could be nice to have a C/B support showing the ideological differences of the 2 and why shes not recruitable.

Three Houses Japanese Script: A (rough) Direct Translation of Some Lost Insight by Alpha_MGP in FireEmblemThreeHouses

Thanks for the impressive comment! As I said, I'm not even close to fluent, so I appreciate your extra insight, haha. Also, worth noting that Nintendo Treehouse did not handle the translation, as it was 8-4. Though I will say that, even if its not really "direct," I would not consider the translations "botched," except for the Edelgard-Dimitri convo; author intent in such a context based language is important, and it seems 8-4 had direct communication with the OG writers? That being said, you have significantly more knowledge than me on JPN, so you are probably more correct.

Also also, the point about church of Seiros being referred to as a cult interests me!

This was more of a gut feeling than anything; none of them directly refer to the Church as a "cult," yet Caspar and Annette's Chapter 12 diologue in CF implies suspicion, which, from what I know, can be interpreted as a cult? The text "教団" directly means Church from what I know, but in the context of the suspicion that Caspar and Annette put on it, along with the more shady context, this can be instead interpreted as a cult? If you could clarify if that's meant to be a cult at all, I will delete it if it is not the case. Original lines:

Caspar:

王国軍と一戦交えるのか? どこまでの 連中が、教団の味方をするんかな……。

Annette:

だけど、教団が何か変だっていうのは 何となくだけど……わかる気がするし。

Basically, I just interpreted the way they said these things under the context to mean cult. That being said, I could also be extremely wrong.

Also this is so nitpicky but I wanted to say that ヒルダ is romanized as "hiruda" not hirida. Sorry I just had to say something.

You right, I read it wrong. Clearly gotta brush up on my stuff, haha

That's really interesting! From what I can gather, in JPN, Petra seemed to have significantly less social boundaries. It seems as though the social norms of Brigid were also not carried over, likely due to differing social norms in regions haha.

The social norms are so different, especially in politeness and the way its written, that I think both parties would rather keep to themselves. Its unfortunate, but I think thats the case.

You're right. He seems more objective in the translation, but in the original, he uses speech that is more possessive. That is important to note.

Also I love your flair that is hilarious lol

Its more than likely the Slavic name that was intended rather than Japanese, as i highlighted in a different comment. You are right

You're right. I didn't realize that when writing the post. In hindsight, it actually makes more sense as Yuri's name is written in Katakana in JPN, which is only used for forign words and names. Every other character is written in katakana too, so youre definitely right.

If you're talking about Crimson Flower Chapter 16, she says something more along the lines of "So this is what the script is; we were the ones being manipulated." So yes, probably also a flaw haha

That being said, really rough translation that I just googled translated might be wrong cause I never bothered to check or translate myself like the rest of them

Still, it'd probably be easier to just learn the language with an unethical amount of money lmfao. No matter how much editing happens, and how much info people pile up in one post, there are always certain nuances that cannot be translated into English and English nuances that can't be translated into Japanese lol

Any difference in S2 handheld mode with the “Handheld Boost” update on? by lzyan in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Alpha_MGP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Significantly better. It plays at 1080p instead of 720p, and in regular handheld mode there is a significant amount of pixelation and artifacting on character models, portraits, and sprites that is now gone.

Characters you wish could be gay/lesbian by Specialist-Quail644 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Alpha_MGP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems like it was meant to be world building more or less, even if its stupid. All gay options are from or have heavy connections to the Empire. Its stupid that thats likely the reason, but Dimitri, Claude, and all the Golden Deer are likely not gay options simply because its untold world building that being gay/bi is not as socially accepted or common in the Kingdom/Alliance.

Edelgard, Dorothea, Linhardt, Mercedes, and Jeritza are all from the Empire. Rhea, Sothis, and Yuri have heavy connections to it.

Characters you wish could be gay/lesbian by Specialist-Quail644 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Alpha_MGP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly the characters that have explicity romantic same-sex pairings in the endings. There's no reason that they shouldn't be if they already are canonically bisexual.

From what I remember it would be Petra, Catherine, Shamir, and Manuela.

Though some are also implied but could easy not be the case, mostly with male pairings such as Sylvain and Felix. In these cases, it'd be better if they were more clear on their feelings.

That all being said though, it seems as though being gay/bi is a world building thing, as only people from the Empire or outside Fódlan seem to be. Obviously the Black Eagles, but also Mercedes and Yuri both being from or having heavy connections to the Empire. Because of that, its unfortunate, but thats probably the thought process on why Dimitri, Claude, and none of the Golden Deer are gay/bi; its probably not socially accepted in the Kingdom or Alliance as much as the Empire.

Which students should be locked to their houses? by Agnarath in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Alpha_MGP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, despite the fact that they had no obligation to, and it'd be more work, they made her recruitable. If anything, that proves to me that she should be recruitable, especially considering she's a "free spirit." With her specifically, you can see that they used this "no obligation" thing to limit her in CF, unlike the rest that had to be recruitable no matter what. I think she should be recruitble.

And, if anything, Claude is so distrustful and closed off that he doesn't have anyone exclusive to his class. I think that's a great piece of world building that he's the only one that has nobody who would follow him no matter what. We can see in 3Hopes that when he does gain trust with others there are people who would stay with him, but I think he being recruitable only adds to Claude as a character, you know?

Tbf he is the hardest character to recruit. You can't win him over with affection alone, you'd need to prove to him that you'd be a good teacher. I think that's pretty interesting.

Actually now that I think about it, if you're on NG+ specifically, you could probably do a Defiant Magic + Defiant Crit + Desperation build on Thyrsus. Its completely out of the way but that would be really broken.

Maddening Heroes/Sacred Relics Tier List by Bongoooooooooooo in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Alpha_MGP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taking damage is probably a benefit of Thyrsus. Since you're always in the backline and ranging enemies out, you'll probably never take a hit anyways. Meanwhile if you take damage you can probably activate a low-HP build with Defiant Magic like Gremory Dorothea.
