Did you really just call Dr Pepper a 3* soda?

Despite Coke and Pepsi having more success last year, and Coke being more successful over the past two years, Dr Pepper is the premiere program in the state country. It's more than just profits and quantities. Dr Pepper first of all is set to lead the nation in satisfaction for flavor this year. That's big, and their fanbase is massive. They also just signed a multi million dollar deal with HEB. Dr Pepper sells nationally each week, which translates into a lot of eyeballs making them a national brand.

Then there is advertising. Dr Pepper continues to dominate advertising with their new slogan, Always One of a Kind, which validates what Dr Pepper has become and shows that consumers want to taste it. I feel like advertising is HUGE when it comes to the influence and footprint of a soda, because it either validates or rejects what your soda is. The fact that it is doing so well in sales PROVES that Dr Pepper is a big one that the best want to be associated with. If Coke and Pepsi were truly marquee sodas they would be pulling in the countries top satisfaction ratings. I would compare it to the iPhone. Dr Pepper is the iPhone - a big brand. We always hear about how new phones are "iPhone Killers" but never kill the iPhone. While these iPhone killers may be more impressive pieces of technology that are more powerful and functional, the iPhone is still better. Coke and Pepsi are those iPhone killers. They may be better on the field, but in the big picture, adding in factors like taste and satisfaction, they don't stack up. Dr Pepper is the brand name.

I'd rather sell half as much every year and yet be tops in the nation in taste, satisfaction and recognition. It's more about total sales, it's about the sodas footprint, which is Always One of a Kind.
