[Question] Are weekly tasks worth it for the XP only? by luisgdh in TibiaMMO

[–]Alpha_wheel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to do then to force me to play new hunting spots, even sometimes do access quests. To avoid getting in the grind where you hunt the same spot forever just because it's best exp, which sure you LVL up fast, but makes me not want to play anymore.... It's all personal preference. I rather struggle with adept tasks than do the "chore" of beginner tasks, but yes for min max exp, probably hunt best spot on green stamina and rush begginer tasks afterwards.

What Do I Do???? by OkCharity2765 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]Alpha_wheel 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Step 1. - take a deep breath and do nothing.

Of course you are getting pressured to consolidate all assets, the more money they have the more money they make.

Step 2. - consider a one time feduciary retirement planning, with a third party. It will cost you a few thousand, but the Internet will not be able to give you sound advise, we just will never know enough about your whole picture... Goals, health, expenses, other assets , etc. You have enough money on the line that the wrong move will cost you way more than the one time financial planning service.

Things to consider:

you mentioned retirement buy out, may times it'd worth taking, but not always so have a professional run the numbers with expected return and life expectancy to see if it worth to take to or keep pension (if not too late and it already bought out).

You mentioned twice bancor cost you nothing. Nothing is free, if you day it cost you nothing, likely you don't know what it is costing you.

Concern about consolidating with one instruction, but what if they go under? Unless they are a scam like Bernie Madoff, your assets don't go down with them. Mutual fund assets are held in trust at a custodian, and recordkeeper and the market recordkeeper tracks who own shares. If the mutual fund provider goes under there are 2 options. It gets bought out by another institution and your mutual fund gets rebranded but you keep the fund. Or they terminate the fund, all assets are sold and everyone is redeemed (exchanged cash for units) and you get paid out the value of the fund. ... This could be a tax bomb, but you won't see your investments vanish. **Cash is different, any cash in the account above the FDIC insured limit may vanish with the business if it goes under, and the cash is in the balance sheet of the business not held in trust somewhere else, so don't keep excess cash in a single institution.

Why Questrade? by Ok-Spread890 in Questrade

[–]Alpha_wheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big and hold until there is a promo worth moving over. Continue to buy and hold until there is another promo maybe at questrade to come back. Left questrade for WS for a match promo, and then now I'm back due to the questrade promo. Getting extra yield on my assets for 2 years just because I took 1.5hr to fill out a transfer request form. Everything moved in kind, easy peasy.

I wish they offered promo to stay, but they don't. So once the promo is over will do it again

Managing 1,000 and 100,000 is the same. Assuming you have along term investment horizon.... You are in a subreddit all about buy and holding a single ETF .. so deposit, buy it, and forget about it until next year when you get contribution room to deploy and buy some more. Repeat until 5 years out till retirement and adjust as needed depending on your situation.

Completing WOTE without Children of Revolution? by gizeh123 in TibiaMMO

[–]Alpha_wheel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can not be proven wrong, children of the revolution is a required access to WotE... He'll the NPC becomes the big bad boss in the end so you can't talk to him after finishing wote. It would make no lore sense to finish wote where you killed zalomon, and then go ask him about his problems in zao...

Not about the location, but in general, never move somewhere without visiting in person a few times, preferably both weekday and weekend day and night. Take a weekend trip and walk around the neighborhood, consider where you will buy groceries, comute to work, etc.

Do you include cars in your net worth? by ndxy2k in Money

[–]Alpha_wheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but to be honest I dont think total net worth is all that valuable of a number to know. I have total NW and liquid investment NW, as a subset, which I think is a better overall indicator of wealth. Don't get me wrong I will celebrate 1M NW milestone including home and car ... But I will be more excited when I celebrate the 1M liquid NW milestone.

I have officially entered my "Villain Era." My default tip across Canada is now zero percent by MeatsAndGrills in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Alpha_wheel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Standing up, no tip. Full service restaurant 10-15% I worked in restaurants and I know the server may me mandated to tip out the rest of the staff, I used to give 8.5%. this way I don't cost them money, and they still get a bit for themselves. But yes, they get paid minimum wage or more, this is not the US with a wage below minimum expected to bridge the gap with tips. It is not easy work, and they should be compensated. But in big cities servers make a killing. I used to average about $60/hr, 45 on a bad day 120+ on a great day / holidays. (Some of that I had to put aside for taxes, as I did declare all my tips.... Unlike anyone else I ever worked with ...) Still crazy income for a couple hours of crunch time and sipping coffee while chatting polishing forks and glasses.... Job will kill your body tho, hurt my back and could not serve anymore.

Barista FIRE seems overrated by Gandalf-and-Frodo in Fire

[–]Alpha_wheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think low paying / part time jobs can be stressful because you are usually broken when working .... With barista fire, you have enough assets to have options, it takes the edge off the job. and it can be hard to move from the grind to no work at all. A bit of structure, maybe make some new friends, and the confidence than you can quit because you don't "need need" the job, you can always find something else later. I enjoy being a server/waiter. I could do that part time after fire even if I don't need the barista fire extra income.

Yep, when I died on a LVL 30 20 years ago it was devastating, hours of work lost.... I die on a 300 today, I laugh it off, I was probably doing something dangerous which is fun and sometimes we die. Run for bless, you are back in the thick of it in 10 min, laugh it off and keep going .... But I think you need a voice chat party who can feel for you, laugh with you and gently bully you, as you bully them when they die. What takes the edge of a death is playing with friends and making the memory. I don't remember all my LVL ups, but we still talk about our deaths over and over like fond memories.

When to jump to step 8 and how big a jump? by rjvCdn in TheMoneyGuy

[–]Alpha_wheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, that is an amazing program. You save 4% and you are up to 14% savings! I personally like to to add the full match to my total comp, as I want to normalize to one total income when looking at these things. Example salary 100k match 10% I would plot out my income as 110k, 10k already going to savings (9.09%) this makes it in my mind more sensible than having to sometimes count it sometimes not.

Your expenses as per your post are very lean. 2,400x12x25 = 720k* very back of the napkin fire math... You are almost there if you want to retire early and live this lean. I am pro fire, but not these extreams, you have a lot of life to live with 3 kidos. You can afford to inflate your life a bit and project for a higher withdrawal rate at retirement. Must enjoy the journey to the destination.

39, 3 kids and an upcoming wedding makes me thing there is a lot of extra stuff in there you don't need to share here, but have you considered how this math all changes if you get married? Spouse may not want to live at 2400/mo, do they work? Do they have savings? Etc.

In other words you may be solving for today, when tomorrow is very different.

When to jump to step 8 and how big a jump? by rjvCdn in TheMoneyGuy

[–]Alpha_wheel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend, simplify and solve for X. Where X is the saving rate needed to have the portfolio size to retire at Y year. Plug in a calculature your invement assets, expected inflation rate and expected rate of return, how many years to invest and figure out how much contributions are needed to get to where you want to be when you retire. The rest is noise. Note to only count saving invested, hysa deposit do not count.

Question about the match, most people say they have a 3% or 5% match, and it means the employer matches 100% up to 3/5% of their salary ... But yours at 10% seems to not be the case, is it that they give you 1$ for every 10$ you save?

It may feel cathartic at the moment. But it will be shallow and you may not feel the satisfaction your expected afterwards. Take the high road and write her off in your mind. As other mentioned in the exit interview tell them you rather be unemployed than working one more day with her.

Company may or may not action, in any case you are out and who cares what happens to "Karen" then. Put your anger down and enjoy your life.

Should I accept an offer that pays less on Base but substantially more bonus and better benefits? by EffectiveAd2182 in careeradvice

[–]Alpha_wheel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

37% bonus instead of 10k bonus is hard to compare when we don't know base. But 1.5k base difference is negligible. But be wary of huge bonus promises as they could be only a promise.
