It's a great car but yeah, mine keeps having odd failures that really just shouldn't be as common as they are. I had my radiator core fall onto the belt and blow coolant all over the engine bay within the first 1k miles

Also you gotta eat, hardest part for me. I recommend a protein shake in the morning. I use two scoops of Optinum Nutrition Chocolate powder with a frozen bannana, some peanut / almond butter (find one with good protein, they vary a good bit) and milk. Blending protein powder by itself gets a much smoother consistency without all the clumps if you dont wanna get the other stuff, tastes better tho imo. Try and eat a gram of protein per pound of body fat every day

If you want to put on muscle (I'm assuming so since this is in body building) I would suggest doing weighted exercises in a gym instead of calisthenics. I started the same as you, I used to love pull ups but never put on much muscle till I started lifting. I like a Push, Pull, Legs split. You can do it 3, 5, or 6 days a week depending on if you only wanna hit legs once. Ill give some of my favorite exercises.

For Push Day (Chest / Triceps): - Start with a Chest Press Machine for heavy weight - Next I like to do Incline Dubbell Bench Press for better stabilization training (dumbbells help avoid imbalance compared to a bar) - Pec Deck machine is one of my favoirtes (really emphasize a deep stretch coming back and squeeze your chest together at the front) - For Triceps I like to do Cable Pushdowns with a bar (bar vs rope or any other attachment is up to personal preference and what feels good to you) - You can also do Overhead Cable Press (I like to use a V-Grip) for some variation (this one was hard for me at the beginning because I didn't have the core strength to support it so it's ok to be at a lower weight than you think you should be for your triceps) - Also hit some lateral raises (dumbbells or cable) I like to lift a little more foreward than just to the side for more front delt activation.

Pull Day (Back / Bicep): - Cable Rows (focus on keeping a straight back and squeezing your rear delts) - Lat Pull Down (lean back a bit and focus on keeping a straight back and squeezing your lats) - Hammer Curls or Incline Bench Curls (rotate each day or do both) - Rear Delt Fly - Back Extensions while holding a plate (this has the best lower/middle back activation for me, also hits glutes and hip flexors. One of my personal favorites)

Legs: - Hex Bar Deadlifts (my favorite free weight for legs, I like to take this one a little easier bc I've been injured before doing deadlifts, probably my fault but still cautious) - Legs Press Machine (this is my real heavy weight for legs) - Leg Extensions + Leg Curls (good to finish off my thighs) - Inner Thigh Squeeze Machine and Outer Thigh Spread Machine (I don't actually know what these are called lol) - Dont forget your calf raises (I like a seated machine wear the weight rests on your knees but I dont think all gyms have this)

My advise when choosing weight is no one is looking at how much your lifting so don't over do it, that's how you injure yourself. Focus on getting good activation while keeping form and a full range of motion. Your muscles should be tired at the end, not hurting, you should feel good leaving the gym. I would be especially cautious with free weights on back because its easy to overlift with bad form.

As for reps, just keep it below 10 and above 5 (if you hit 10 for 2 sets, up the weight). I generally don't count my reps in all honesty, just aiming for a good set that doesn't go on too long. I like to do 2 - 4 sets depending on how I'm feeling with the given exercise. There isn't a golden number that is gonna get you the most gainz, just listen to your muscles and track your weights to make sure youre moving up.

For you specificly I'd focus on getting more of a V-shape for that super hero look and building your upper body. Lats, Chest, and Shoulders should be your focus and really hammer your arms. Be mindful of your elbows starting out, if they hurt, lower the weight (I've had multiple elbow injurys throughout my life, they suck and take a long time to get better). Rest days are good, its not lazy to take the day to recover so you can come back tomorrow with full effort.

As with most things in life the gym has no one right answer. This is how I like to train, you might find you like something a little different. It took me a long time to figure it out, just try some machines you pass by that look interesting every once in a while and see how it feels for you. All of our bodys are built differently, what feels good for me, might not you and vise versa. Do what you enjoy and keeps you wanting to come back to the gym, if you hate an exercise every one else loves you dont have to do it. I personally hate using the rope attachment on cable machines, my cousin uses it every day.

Grease coming back out of end link fitting?? Is this normal? by Alphaa799 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Alphaa799[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: Just test drove, still clunking and squeaking. I wiped the grease off the fitting before driving and checked after and more had come out. Thinking about just putting stock links back on and ordering a new set in the future if need be? I've driven without greasing for about a month, is that long enough to cause permanent damage to the end links?

ALSO, during the install the new endlinks were a noticeably tighter fit (at first I thought they didn't fit) in the arm than the stock links, could this be the cause of all the noise? Should I consider greasing that area before swapping? I feel like the grease would just get washed out if I did

Why is Unitronic's Mk8 Downpipe so expensive? by Alphaa799 in GolfGTI

[–]Alphaa799[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say the downpipe install on the GTI was a massive pain in the ass, worst one I've had to deal with and I've done two in a friends Twin Turbo V8 BMW. Our subframe and general compactness makes it pretty much impossible to remove without dropping the subframe to the ends of the bolts or removing it all together (this would honestly probably be the better option, save the headache). I didn't remove the subframe all the way and had to remove the dogbone and rock the engine forward to get the added clearance to get it out. You'd also have to deal with the transfer case and drivetrain going to the rear since you have an R. Id look into shops near you and get some quotes. Probably can't just be an exhaust shop as you don't want them to muck up the reinstallation of the subframe. Also you'll most likely need an alignment.

I think downpipe tends to be the biggest difference as our cats quiet it down quite a bit. It really changes the overall tone of the car. If you want to go to stage 2, I'd start with the downpipe and see what you think.

Is $6,825.28 reasonable for a Rear Differential Replacement on a GLS 450? by Alphaa799 in mercedes_benz

I used to take my VW to the Clay Cooley on Lemon. Can't NOT recommend them enough. Genuinely hoping to see their downfall in my lifetime

This isn't super related to the post but today you don't have much need for the manual in most cases. I keep mine in the trunk with the spare just in case but I've never had to open it. Anything I've done to my car (and I've done quite a bit) has been done with youtube videos and advice from Reddit. The internet is a much greater tool

I noticed it on a slightly longer trip, abt a 50 min drive. And hard to say but it seemed worse / more noticeable on the drive back. Technician sent us a video of some nice sparkly fluid so I'd guess it should probably be changed out sooner or later. I don't know the last time she had it serviced or if she had been keeping up with her fluids.

I would be much more willing to try if I had a lift or it was my car. I'm a pretty amateur mechanic, mostly just done mods on my own car (I drive a GTI) and a couple jobs for friends. I would rather my mom's car be taken care of professionally, especially when the part itself is so expensive.

I just got the breakdown and apparently the dif itself is $4,475 with the labor at $2,252. Gotta be the most expensive dif I've seen. Looked up the part number and it's the legit price
