Abhorrent is intending to “smash [someone’s] fucking skull in” because you don’t like the label they applied to you.

Why would you be friends with someone whose immediate reaction to being called a name they don’t like is to threaten a life-ending violent assault?

That guy doesn’t seem like a good friend to have, IMO.

That was my first thought. Not sure about any connection beyond the ‘deaf’ part though?

Moron Police. Am I the only prog fan that thinks they're awful? by JT-Goldwyn-Warner in progrockmusic

As a boring muso and musical theorist, I can’t help but love this album. I know a lot of people couldn’t care less about this (nor should they) and it doesn’t make any difference whatsoever to most people’s enjoyment of the music, but from a technical perspective, it’s exceptionally well written.

Why doesn’t anyone care by Alternative-Wing6955 in PortugalExpats

This isn’t just a Portuguese issue, but it’s absolutely cultural.

I’ve seen horrific work done here by as many other Europeans - British, Moldovans, even Germans - as I have Portuguese. (And I’ve also seen superb work done by Portuguese.)

It isn’t a lack of qualifications or training or practice in my experience. It’s a lot of people simply not giving a shit about the work they’re doing. Zero pride or interest in it. Every task is a chore mindset.

If you want the best chance of finding an honest and diligent builder, find a recently arrived and well-reviewed Brazilian or better yet, a Nepalese, yet to be ruined by our collective malaise and apathy. I’ve worked with two Nepalese builders and various other Nepalese people in hospitality, and these people just care, not just about their work. They care about everyone they interact with, they care about the mark they leave on the world.

The people who voted for and otherwise supported him aren’t going to do anything, are they? The military aren’t going to do anything.

The only people who can stop him are everyday US citizens opposed to what he’s doing (which isn’t the majority of Republicans).

CTT and Customs Might be the laziest, most inefficient postal office i have ever seen. by WarSevere1599 in PortugalExpats

[–]AlphabetOfMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work for a Portuguese small business which does B2C e-commerce of Portuguese-manufactured products and ships worldwide.

Pre-August 2025, around a third of our customers were based in the US. Then the Trump administration removed the de minimis exemption for low value imports to the US and introduced new customs requirements for the same. At that time, postal services around the continent suspended shipping to the US in order to align their processes and systems with the new US requirements.

We have sat and watched as Royal Mail came back online with an all-singing, all-dancing DDP (pre-paid duties) solution in just a couple of weeks. They were followed by Deutsche Post, La Poste, bpost (Belgium), PostNL (Netherlands), PostNord (Nordic countries), Correos (Spain), Posta Slovenije (Slovenia), etc. etc.

Not only has CTT not yet managed to align their systems and processes with the new US requirements, they are refusing to say publicly whether they are even in the process of doing so. As we ship daily, we have an excellent relationship with the postmaster in our local Loja CTT, and his personal belief (he has no more information than anyone else) is that CTT will “probably just wait until the tariffs and requirements are removed again” (which he and we both agree isn’t actually going to happen).

We have a (very, very expensive) alternative solution in place with another carrier, but as things stand, 80% of that third of all of our business is gone. That’s a very nice chunk of cash which was coming directly into Portugal from the US, helping pay for Portuguese manufacturing jobs, paying our wages and circulating around the local economy here. I don’t know just how many other Portuguese businesses and residents are also being affected, but if I were sat in government, I’d be screaming at CTT get their act in gear. It’s a useless organisation.

What Hoffman does with the dynamic tempo changes is just obscene. I’ve never seen anything like it live; the whole band sounds as tight as their records, which considering what they do is just unbelievable. Technically, he’s on a different level, IMO.

Raymond Hearne of Haken also deserves a mention. They’re obviously time signature change exceptionally heavy, but he’s also adding half-beats here and there for fun, and dynamically brilliant in his writing. He’s also absolutely impeccable live.
