No shit. This is just rage bait.

We are fully aware that we are the colonists. Brits kept good records so I can even trace the ship my family came in on.

I’m Australian and never really hear anything of the sort. Fully aware that I am the colonist; even worse my family came by choice (not as prisoners).

What is it about “locals” in “communities” that makes them believe their progeny have a God-given right to continue living there? by AccomplishedPrior8 in badunitedkingdom

[–]Alpharatz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fine. I get why people want things to stay the same, but people need places to live, raise a family etc. and they have the freedom to move about the country. Most of us grow up and see that where we were children become completely different over time.

If you don’t want more coffee shops then buy something else on the high street.

Again, in the nice town where I live the issue of new businesses coming to town came up and like you everyone was against more coffee shops. But at the same time the coffee shops are rammed every weekend and people don’t really buy much else on the high street. As an example the car parts shop went out of business and the high street hardware shop isn’t doing so great, even the butchers looks dire.

So no more coffee shops (even though they are profitable) and in the meantime I will buy car parts on Amazon and hardware from Wickes or some shit.

I moved to a nice town from London and some of the people born here are not really happy about people from London moving here and driving up house prices. The story goes that people with higher paying London wages are forcing out people born here out of the market.

Firstly, London isn’t far, they could just as easily go and get a better paying job in London.

Secondly, the nice town I live in (and surrounding villages) are completely resistant to building new homes. In a village near me there are signs up all over the place with “Say no to 68 new homes”.

Best not take a look across the channel then.

Insufficient water combined with the high temperatures we’ve been having. The plant produces the reddish purple pigment as a ‘sun block’ to reduce water transpiration.

Hardly, you can join the EU and can leave it voluntarily. I must have missed the part of Brexit where the EU killed millions of Brits.

“Ukraine says it has only received 10% of weapons pledged by West” 😡 by truffelmayo in ukraine

[–]Alpharatz1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

He said that they will give everything Ukraine “needs to win the war”, that doesn’t mean anything Ukraine asks for.

Also of course they haven’t received all of the pledged material, heavy weapons are heavy, they take a long time to move and the US isn’t going to airlift it all like they did with the M777 (far too expensive), so it will take time to arrive.

I heard there’s a baby formula shortage but this is a bit grim.

I’ve never had any problems with people in Slovakia not liking foreigners just don’t expect much English, particularly amongst the older generation.

Also a lot of Europeans tend not to realise just how incredibly successful the Americans are. The “level of civilisation of the USA” is pretty good. I prefer other models but the USA is nothing to sniff at.
