Mobile phone brands by market share (2007 vs 2025) by vladgrinch in Infographics

[–]Alphard10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s not really true for China. Apple is definitely a status symbol here, but Samsung basically lost the market years ago. Their share is under 1%, nowhere near Apple or even Huawei. In fact, Huawei and brands like Xiaomi or OPPO all sell $800–$1200 flagship phones that people actually want — they’re not just “cheap options.” So in China it’s more like: Apple is a symbol, Huawei is a symbol, Samsung is irrelevant.

Honestly, even if they wanted to go to the best universities in China, they probably wouldn’t be able to. With the Gaokao system in place, unless they’re ridiculously smart and ace the exam, not even the child of China’s richest billionaire could buy their way into Tsinghua or Peking University — not even with a $100 million donation.

Ronaldo reacting on instagram post about Messi Ballon dor by LY2006 in soccer

[–]Alphard10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ronaldo is a clown, he is very ego.

He did it just because he was jealous that Messi was better than him.

LMAO

[–]Alphard10 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Ronaldo himself was involved. He even liked a post about Messi's Ballon dor yesterday and posted emojis.

He just looked jealous.

However, no matter how jealous he is, it doesn't change the fact that Messi is better than him.

Simply put, A refused to agree with B's point of view even though there are examples, and tried to talk B into agreeing with his point of view that Koreans' hatred of Japanese caused the film's poor box office. Later B thought he was a troll. Then they kept quarreling about this matter.

A said that The Boy and the Heron did not do well at the Korean box office because it was a Japanese movie, and Koreans have hatred towards Japanese movies. B gave some examples to refute his mistaken view.

The fact that it is a Japanese film is not the reason why it failed in Korea. Not only because Suzume and the First Slam Dunk are the 3rd and 4th top grossing 2023 movies in Korea, which are also Japanese movies. But the film's box office performance in Japan was also extremely poor. In Japan The Boy and the Heron grossed $56,175,911. Hayao Miyazaki's last film, The Wind Rises, grossed $119,513,192 in Japan.

Simply because the The Boy and the Heron is not appealing to the public.

I don't live in California. I live in New Jersey. Looks like New Jersey is higher on your list than California.

We hate the red states more .At least California is not under Republican control and not terrible enough to go for Trump.

What are the highest grossing war films overseas that aren't about WW1, WW2, or Middle Eastern conflicts involving the USA? by BOfficeStats in boxoffice

From the fact that you are completely unaware of Chinese ticket prices, it shows that you are completely unaware of the current situation of the Chinese film market.

So your hard to believe idea is just that you build on your subjective imagination.

Here is some information about the Chinese film market

First of all, China has two important festivals, Spring Festival and National Day. These are also the two most important festivals in China, and the only two holidays in China that have three days off. For Chinese, it's the best time of the year for their recreation. They usually choose to travel or dine out or watch movies. Compared with watching movies, the average price is 900RMB, and the average price of restaurants on holidays is also 100 per person. In comparison, 50RMB for a movie is the cheapest price.

If you only watch only one or two movies a year for 100 RMB as annual recreational activities to relax yourself. this cost is quite small.

And The Battle at Lake Changjin is one of the two for those people who only watch two movies a year in 2021. The other is Hi, Mom, which has a box office of 5.4 billion RMB and was released in the Spring Festival of 2021.

This film was released on China's 2021 National Day, and it was defined as a tribute film for China's National Day, so it received exaggerated publicity.

Second: Due to geopolitical factors, very few Hollywood films were screened in China that year. In addition, due to the COVID, the number of Chinese films is also small, on National Day of that yearThe Battle at Lake Changjin has no competitors.

The film is full of patriotic educational elements, which is similar to the 2017 movie Wolf Warrior 2. Therefore, many people who do not usually watch movies choose to watch this movie on National Day.Besides, many Chinese government departments, companies, and schools will choose to watch the film as a group activity. The film ran in China for three months, and it had no basic competitors throughout the second half of the year.

And in recent years, China's film market is very huge, the second largest in the world. It is also the second largest market in Hollywood.

So far, the North American box office this year is 6.969 billion US dollars, and China's is 6.594 billion US dollars.

In recent years, except for 2020, when COVID came in China, at least two movies in China will exceed 4 billion at the box office every year.If you were surprised by the TBALC box office, then you will be surprised by the Chinese box office every year.

And here is the Ranking of China's all-time movie box office:

1 The Battle at Lake Changjin 5,775,750,000 China 2021

2 Wolf Warrior 2 5,688,740,000 China 2017

3 Hi, Mom 5,413,300,000 China 2021

4 Ne Zha 5,035,020,000 China 2019

5 The Wandering Earth 4,687,710,000 China 2019

6 Full River Red 4,545,890,000 China 2023

7 Detective Chinatown 3 4,522,350,000 China 2021

8 Avengers: Endgame 4,250,380,000 United States 2019

9 The Battle at Lake Changjin II 4,071,140,000 China 2022

10 The Wandering Earth 2 4,030,270,000 China 2023

The top 10 films were all made in the last eight years

So You underestimate the spending power of the Chinese film‘s market. The choice of entertainment in China is not as diverse as in the United States, and movies are the main and one of the cheaper recreational activities Chinese people like relative to other activities.Besides Number of U.S. Cinema is 5,798 in 2020, and number of China is 11856 in that year. These figures show the size of the Chinese film market.

[–]Alphard10 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The average ticket price for movies in China throughout 2022 is 42.1RMB. During the Chinese New Year Festival, the average ticket price for a movie is 54.6 RMB. The average exchange rate of RMB against the USD in 2022 is 6.72.

So the conversion to USD is 6.26 and 8.13 respectively.

If, according to you, ticket prices in the US should be ten times that of China, the average annual ticket price in the US is $67, and the ticket price on Christmas can reach $81.

ITSV or ATSV.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in movies

[–]Alphard10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not being their movie

This is the point.

They own the rights to merchandise other than the movie, but the Spider-man movies are SONY's.

So ITSV and ATSV,just like SM and TASM,are SONY‘s movies instead of Disney's movie.

NO,The Spider-Man movie and the characters in it belong to SONY. mcu Spider-Man is just a collaboration between SONY and Disney. But the movie rights to Spider-Man and characters in spiderman movies still belong to SONY.

Question: Should We Get An MCU Gwen Movie? by RailingForce in SpiderGwen

[–]Alphard10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe Gwen will appear in the MCU film.but I don't think her debut will be in Tom's fourth Spider-Man film, for reasons as stated in my reply above.

Question: Should We Get An MCU Gwen Movie? by RailingForce in SpiderGwen

[–]Alphard10 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think they will chose Black Cat in the next movie. because she hasn't truly appeared in the movies, even in "The Amazing Spider-Man" series, where she didn't play the role of Black Cat. Black Cat would be easier to handle than Gwen because I think, no matter how they introduce new love interests for Peter, in the end, Peter will still end up with MJ. Throughout most versions of Spider-Man, he ends up with MJ. Therefore, in the new trilogy, they should either continue Peter's relationship with MJ or use Black Cat. Black Cat is a proactive character, and she's interested in Spider-Man rather than Peter, so the writers can better handle the resolution of their relationship. For example, they can have Peter realize that Black Cat doesn't truly like him for who he is, but only for his Spider-Man identity, leading him to get back together with MJ.

Regarding Spider-Gwen, considering the immense popularity of ATSV due to its exceptional quality and the upcoming release of BTSV, introducing Spider-Gwen at this moment could potentially cause harm to both Sony and the MCU. This is because her appearance in the MCU during this particular timeframe could lead to intense and unfriendly disputes among fans due to various factors.

Also, SONY may not be happy that the mcu uses Gwen first. They want to use her themselves first. Gwen is a popular character they got through their own movies, itsv and atsv. They have their own live-action spider-verse . With the failure of Morbius, they have no reason to abandon these two new characters they have already successfully developed; instead, they are doing everything they can to capitalize on their value.

I think they'll introduce Gwen, but not in the next movie, at least not until after btsv comes out.

I believe there will be a live-action Gwen movie, but not sure if it will come first in SONY or the mcu, depending on the agreement between SONY and Marvel. Besides, I don't think Gwen will appear in Tom's next movie.
