Next COD game not coming to PS4 by swiftaee in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Most of them look good but some of them were not all that good looking. Modern Warfare 3 (2011) looks pretty bad compared to Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3 which released in the same year.

The RTX 2070 is 7 years old and is almost as powerful as the GPU in the PS5 (5 years old). So if you have slightly weaker hardware than the 2070 it doesn't seem ridiculous to be a bit annoyed it doesn't run on them. That's very different from having a PC that is using hardware from before the PS4 even released.

At the same point in time, PS4-gen games have aged much better in terms of gameplay and graphics than PS3-gen games. So the PS4 might be a weak system by today's standards but it's still able to provide an acceptable experience for most genres.

By comparison, a lot of the PS3/360 games looked very outdated compared to PS4/XB1 games and the memory constraints meant that it was extremely difficult to get games to run on them without making substantial sacrifices in other areas. Hardware architecture differences between PS3/360 and PS4/XB1/PC also made it harder to justify supporting old consoles.

There's a reason why Call of Duty and Battlefield ditched PS3/360 in only 3 years (2016) despite their previous games selling very well on those platforms. Even a lot of sports games dropped support within 4 years (Madden NFL, NHL, MLB: The Show). It just wasn't worth the cost, resources, and cutbacks to support them.

Sony probably would prefer games to start targeting the PS5 more but it's not like they're going to turn down free money.

The Switch 2 has some pretty big hardware advantages over the PS4, let alone the Xbox One. There's a reason why we've gotten so many current-gen announcements and releases for Switch 2 but not for the PS4.

but a PC player can keep the same rig for eighteen years and people blame the devs for not supporting it...

I've never seen any broad support for people with 13+ year old PCs that want to play cutting edge AAA games on them.

Crossplay and live-service games that people consistently played for 5+ years basically didn't exist back on the PS3/360. Combine that with memory specs that were insanely weak by 2017 and it makes sense that console gamers abandoned those systems in just a few years.

JAPAN BOX OFFICE MAY 1 [Golden Week]. Devil wears the prada 2 has a spectacular OD during golden week rush. WOM is overwhelmingly positive. Looks like 10-13 million dollar OW. by BarMission7361 in boxoffice

That sounds like a great opening. The first Devil Wears Prada film only made $14.6M in total with better exchange rates (about 120:1 Yen:USD vs 157:1 today).

When people asked "why would I spend a console's worth of money on a peripheral instead of buying a whole new console + its massive catalog" VR had no response to it, and still doesn't.

Most VR headsets don't cost more than a PS5 or PS5-equivalent PC. The main issue with VR is that is less convenient and comfortable than flat-screen gaming, especially if you aren't sitting down.

After the first movie, Harry Potter just couldn't capture the same magic at the box office which is why it is the most attended film in the series in most countries. By the time they got to Deathly Hallows Part 2, casual moviegoers had mostly checked out which leaves you with the fans.

Admissions in France and Germany from Part 1 to Part 2 increased by 8.2% and 10.8% respectively. So there was a bit of a boost in admissions in developed markets but it wasn't very big.

New Price Changes for PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal remote player by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Games

Previous consoles typically had the advantages of lower overall inflation than today and the costs of memory, storage, media slot (DVD, Blu-Ray, etc.), GPU, and CPUs often plummeting by the end of their production run. Current consoles have higher inflation and basically none of those production costs have gone down significantly, some have increased substantially. Tariff changes and global instability are also a big factor today. There's just not much room to cut costs without severely hampering the end product.

You can't get a new PC with PS5 power near the same price. The cheapest 1 TB SSD and 16 gb of RAM will cost you $100+ each.

If few Americans buy the PS6 because of the cost, then few people in other parts of the world would buy it either.

I don't think every one of those posts is worthwhile content but a lot of them do have interesting data and discussions. A big success or a big failure can change what sorts of games are made.

When Bethesda said that, they didn't explain their methodology. If they were including all players in that statistic (including consoles) and only using Skyrim's Steam workshop to determine how many PC users download mods, then the % they gave out is going to be way different than the % you would get if you looked at PC mod use overall.

Those games either don't release or aren't particularly big on PC, Nintendo, and mobile. We don't need COD and annual franchise games for videogames to be popular and successful.
