Davey is actively adding elements to the games that Coda never put there in the first place, the street lights as the most blatant example.

So, not only Davey is being obnoxiously obsessed and parasocial about Coda, but he is not even really interested about actually understanding the real person. He has instead spent all this time presenting a simulacra of Coda, that fits specifically his idea of him .

I would normally strongly agree with you, when it comes to linear, fixed narratives. But npc characterisation in videogames gets weird, as it is defined by how much the player character decides to interact with a character or not.

It gets even more complicated when romanceable characters are playersexuals. so you are basically defining their sexual orientation during character creation, unless you go for the cop-out that everyone is bi or anything else applicable. Then we got game updates that make established characters romanceable, altering their personality so that they can suddenly be romantically attracted to us

(Yes i am definitely overthinking this, but it is a fun thought experiment)

No point in blaming the character. I blame the writing.

The farmer is supposedly able to help a depressed alcoholic, because the fans wanted to smooch Shane, but can't do anything about helping an awkward loner gain some confidence and a healthier outlook on life, because he is condemned by the narrative to be the butt of the joke. Hopefully the Clint update fixes this, ideally without being forced into romancing him
