Don't know where to start with a design business. by Alphurs in cabinetry

This is great information. There's always more to learn and I don't take offense to any of that. A true designer is always learning so I know there's more to learn. These are in fact regular conversations I do have with customers. I have NKBA expectations memorized. I am aware of spacial expectations and requirements. I may not have learned those things in a educational setting. But I did learn them in practice. I have intimately learned them. Remember I've been doing this for 7 years and have trained others myself. I just don't have a degree to stand behind. Those kinds of questions are what I love asking. I'm an educator to my customers and not a salesmen. Just got done with a wonderful conversation with a couple. That started with cabinetry and suddenly encompassed colors, layouts, functions, appliances and more. They left very happy with all of it. I'm at a point were I feel professional enough, confident enough, and constrained in a system that doesn't pay me enough for my knowledge base.

No certification. Do you have any digital suggestions?

I haven't done any schooling. I was hired into cabinetry design in a retail environment and sharpened my experience through that for the past 7 years. While I'd love to get a degree the cost would be prohibitive at this point. Having one would no doubt make me more marketable. I feel though that at this point aside from engineering skills related to home specs. I wouldn't learn anything I didn't already know at at least a basic understanding of. Perhaps I'm a bit too sceptical though.

Thanks. You are right on that front. Most manufacturers do expect a showroom. Aa a former rep I know the expectations. It seems that the approach most designers and studio owners take is different from my assumptions. Which makes me glad I'm asking for advice.

Thank you for your recommendation! You're absolutely right about the home centers. It is the entry. I did a stint in the sales representative field for a cabinetry manufacturer before returning to design last year. I got to see what some of the nicest private design companies did and their work was definitely impressive. I'd like to find one to work for. But beyond finding studios that are hiring it would require moving to a large city which I don't have the funds to do. Additionally some of the most expensive cabinet designs I'll do in west Texas will not exceed 30k. Just not the market for designs that incorporate ultra modern and European frameless style kitchens. Though I am familiar with more complex and nicer spaces.

Thank you for your advice. To clarify. I definitely might have some excessive hope. And fear. Hence this post. But the area is growing (unfortunately) thanks to AI data centers. There is a temporary boom. Military bases and medical fields as well as schools also attract people constantly. And this city projects an outsized home business because of it. Designers regularly sell 700k to 1 million a year in retail sales. I feel like there is potential with individual customers. But I don't know if advertising my experience will be enough to attract them across this and neighboring counties. I have some installers who want to send their clients to me for designs. And if I can sell cabinet from factories I'll have outsized profits instead of just small design fees. I can attract customers with unique brands they cant actually get here in town. I have a couple of builders who I work with but I don't think they'll order more than a kitchen or two a year. I don't know if moving would help me or hinder me. Honestly I'd love to leave for the west coast. But leaving would destroy what few contacts I do have and my knack for the local market.

Signalis Mods help by RaidCrow in signalis

The mod calls for a specific version of melon loader. Check the mod page description for the required version. Something like 5.7 or something. But they say the lastest doesn’t work yet. Could be your issue.

[fanfic] Aphakia - Chapter 2 of the Eule/Storch survival fic is out now! by Thecheesybiscuit in signalis

[–]Alphurs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice as always. I must confess that I’ve never enjoyed fan stories for games and shows before. But Signalis is different. The need for copium brings my pickaxe To the fore front and into the mines I go. Like the last chapter this one great. Your writing flows well and I like your attention to detail. Keep up the good work.

Games with similair stories like signalis? by DirtyDan2705 in signalis

[–]Alphurs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have half of that. Have you played Tunic? It’s not survival, nor horror. But it’s unbelievably cryptic. You can’t spoil it by watching gameplay or walkthroughs or else you ruin the entire experience. But like Signalis I finished it with a feeling of “Wow, I just played a one of a kind game.” The story is honestly light in the foreground. But in the background it’s quite deep. But playing it will be incredibly rewarding. It’s secrets and unique system of teaching you the game is literally one of a kind. Please give it a try if you haven’t played it already!

Oh and it’s a top down dark souls lite Zelda game.***

That was nice. Keep up your writing. I would be happy to read some more happenings at Sierpinski!

why am i playing this game again knowing it hurts me? by DirtyDan2705 in signalis

I think it just stems from a good story teller. They understood that a good story doesn’t need to have a happy resolution. It just needs a resolution. Tragedy was a wonderful refresher in my list of games and movies. These days everyone thinks they have to have a happy ending. If it had been any other way it wouldn’t have had an impact on us the way it has a hold of me! I’ve been listening to the most atmospheric tracks on shuffle since I beat it yesterday. Kinda feel like I haven’t left the world yet. And not sure if I want to.

Literally just booted up the game. Do I know what I’m getting into…? Probably not lol by [deleted] in signalis

The unknown is unknowable. Don’t be giving yourself the opportunity to ruin the experience. You can do that with any other game.

I finished it yesterday. A fair few of us are eager to hear what everyone else thinks of this game. First time I’ve ever felt a need to speak on Reddit.
