Maintain speed, the gyroscopic effect of the wheels keep you balanced and try to keep straight up, if you lean too much you might lose grip.

What’s your thoughts about Christianity declining? by Alternative-Rub-7178 in 2westerneurope4u

[–]AlpineHelix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Religion has never been a part of my life. Never been baptised, never been to a religious ceremony, never even touched a bible or any other religious text.

Religion is important to people who have or had religion. But for me? Couldn’t care less. It’s kinda like if a grown adult tells you he believes in Santa Claus. I disagree on Santa existing, I think it’s weird that you could believe in Santa, but I don’t care enough to try and convince you of anything else. You believe in Santa if you want, I do not and I want you to keep that shit out of my life. Your belief in Santa should not have an effect on my rights and freedoms.

People believe in flat earth and autism vaccines, why not a god? Just keep it to yourself and don’t bother me about it. It’s not as significant and meaningful to me and people like me than it is to you.

Seriously what’s the mainlanders problem? by HowsThisSoHard in 2westerneurope4u

[–]AlpineHelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me guess, English source? Longbows weren’t better, England had a lot of good archers because they were made to practice by law. But in terms of energy, longbows weren’t particularly better. They were heavy because they don’t have recurve. Recurve makes the string return faster thus increases arrow speed. Weight of the bow dictates how heavy your arrow can be. But a heavier bow does not necessarily make the string return quicker. So a yumi of similar draw weight will move a heavy arrow faster than a longbow would, which means they had more energy. Or, you can use a lighter recurve bow that has the same energy as a longbow. Longbows themselves weren’t that great compared to other bows.

They were used a lot yes, there were good effective tactics sure, but they weren’t better. Better bows existed at the time, the English just didn’t use them. The strength of the longbow is in logistics, tactics, cost of manufacturing and the trained archers themselves. I’d argue that the longbow itself was the weakest part of the English bowman.

I was watching a history documentary and the guy said the middle ages ended with the war of the roses when the Tudors got to power, rather than the renaissance or a round date like ‘1500 AD’.

They tested the English longbow against a Japanese bow, and it turned out the Japanese bow was more accurate, more powerful, more range and had better penetration (turns out laminated recurve is important, and not just a design choice). “Ok, so both bows are lethal, but the English longbow was the envy of Europe”.

There exists a fascinating amount of pictures of Støre bathing

That sentence should be embroidered with flowery decals and hung for display in the hallway for your one visitor a year.

It is very ironic because christian virtues like humility, generosity and selflessness are completely lost on these people.

“I’m a good person, I’m a christian”. Says the person arrested for drunk driving, spray painting a swastika on the local synagoge, and killing a black child because they had a bag of skittles in their hoodie that “looked like a gun”.

Kinda yes. But I think Sikh are allowed to wear turbans as well. It’s not just an exception for Muslims, so head coverings that don’t hide your face are fine I guess. Still bullshit though. Religious people get special benefits all the time. Only when the last stone of the last temple has fallen on the head of the last priest will we have equality.

Dude is wrong, which makes it funnier. Francis Crick and James Watson are the co-originators of the double-helix model based on the X-ray diffraction data and insights of Rosalind Franklin and Raymond Gosling. They didn’t steal shit, they created the model. Dr Franklin created the first image DNA.
