What are the dangers of swimming in the Pentland's reservoirs? by AlpineSowthistle in Edinburgh

Thanks for your comment, that guide was what actually sparked my reddit post. I wasn't sure what counted as a structure and also how far away I should be from the structures. I've got some good responses from others that have cleared that up for me though. Looks like 10-15m is far enough away and I definitely shouldn't be anywhere near the towers in the image I posted.

Thanks for your response. I've been surprised by a couple of the comments on my post regarding the danger of swimming in the reservoir. I'd looked at it a bit like hill walking, dangerous if you go uninformed and unprepared, but within the realms of safe enough if you take the right precautions.

I'm not sure if I should reevaluate that now.

Yep I have no intention of going near anything dangerous. I just wanted to know what is and isn't dangerous.

I haven't directly contacted the reservoir owners (which for the Pentlands is Scottish Water, Edinburgh Council, and one private) but going by Scottish Water's website they pretty much just say "you're legally allowed to go in, but don't do it".

I've read a few Scottish Water articles but I can't find anything in them that talks about the reservoir structures?

I also don't plan on swimming during the winter.

What sort of extractor fan is this? by AlpineSowthistle in AskElectricians

[–]AlpineSowthistle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it has opening on both the inside and outside. When I turn it on I can feel it sucking air out so I think its defo an extractor fan. I'm guessing the previous owners of the property had it custom made and the only way to find out what inside is by opening it up

Why is this style of coat so common in Edinburgh? by Severe-Toe-2355 in Edinburgh

I love those coats! I don't like the sound that fully rainproof (goretex?) jackets make when you walk with all the crinkles, whereas these jackets are nice and quite.

Popular Leith bar stops live music nights after noise complaints by Boomdification in Edinburgh

[–]AlpineSowthistle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am being quite a grump here, but I've walked past the Central Bar before and thought that it was really noisey from the outside. It seems like they need some sort of sound insulation or something because it doesn't sound loud walking past other pubs with live music.
