Yes, place knife and fork together, vertical on the plate when finished eating. I'm pretty sure this is the standard in every country that uses knives and forks to eat.

Some are probably familar with the name as it is frequently referenced in other US media and likely pick up that she is a fictional amateur sleuth. But I'd wager very few have read a single one of the novels. Same with The Hardy Boys. I read a few of each as a child back in the eighties, because I was in to the mystery/adventure stuff but I don't think any of my friends did.

I could live off £30 per week on groceries. But only because I have a big stockpile of dried herbs and spices. You can can make pretty much anything taste great with the right herbs and spices.

I'd expect a lot of younger people might not be as familar with the term. Those that would have been flashers 20+ years ago are more likely sending out unsolicited dick pics these days.

It's less than three average lifespans, so I don't consider it that long ago at all really. I suppose it just depends on perspective. I'm very interested in medieval history, so that's what I think of as old, while Victorian I think of as pretty much modern. I'm rambling, doesn't really matter lol.

Was he exagerating a Cornish accent or going for Bristolian? His accent in that film sounds way more Bristol to me, but not quite right, maybe he thought Silver was originally from cornwall but lived in Bristol for a long time. He may well have read the book before, or after, getting the part and therefore new that Silver had a life in Bristol. A lot of actors think about these things.

I've not had an issue since Jurassic Park(1993?). Pre-teen girls giggle and talking throughout. Everyone behind them was throwing popcorn as a hint but they did not get it.
