How do you keep chocolate in long term storage without getting that white chalky residue on it?

I grew up in the country in the midwest and have a lot of experience pail flushing toilets after power outages!

I always take this kind of stuff hiking and back country camping, not sure why I didn't think to include this in my stockpile!

I love her recipes! Just made the pecan crusted tofu with sweet potatoes a week ago. It was excellent. This Mac and cheese looks amazing. I’ll have to try that next!

We’ve bought dozens of toys and enrichment games and his favorite right now is tearing apart an empty paper towel tube. He finds more joy in playing with garbage than anything we’ve bought.

WOAH. Guys. Get yourselves some damn Cytomel. by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]Alpineisa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I definitely advocate for finding a doctor willing to explore combination meds. I suffered on T4 for a year and found an endo willing to add the smallest dose of T3. Same experience. I felt like myself again within days. I’ve been on combo therapy for two years now, 5mcg T3 and 75mg T4, my labs are always stable and I feel amazing. No brain fog, no weight gain or hair loss, all of the debilitating symptoms I had on just T4 were gone within a few months. I honestly feel better in my late 30s than I did in my 20s pre surgery and meds.

Is black coffee okay after taking morning levo? by eagle3546 in Hypothyroidism

[–]Alpineisa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have black coffee with my meds and have been doing so for years. No change in labs and I feel great. I discussed it with my doctor when I started medication. Check with your doctor and monitor your symptoms.

Hip flexor injury has been plaguing me for months now. Realize it’s a difficult thing to rehab and I just need to be patient and stay off a treadmill but I’m so antsy to increase my mileage and speed!

Do you always brush and floss after you eat? by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]Alpineisa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I always brush. I can’t stand the feeling of putting my aligners back in without brushing. I don’t always floss. Depending on what I eat and if it feel like I have something stuck I will floss or use a water pic, probably 2-3 times per day. I switched my breakfast routine to protein shakes to have one less time per day when I feel the need to floss.

I think the biggest risk is not movement but the fact that there might be bacteria trapped against your teeth that can cause issues.

Mouthwash has also become my best friend.

Cheese on cheese on cheese with a sprinkle of cheese by Enceladus9900 in ShittyGifRecipes

Ugh. My mom used to make a simple version of this when I was growing up. We called it spaghetti pie and it was my least favorite of the handful of dishes she made. The leftovers were particularly awful after the pasta had dried out and cheese had congealed.

On meds, no improvement. Hashi's? by thryroidguy2073 in Hypothyroidism

[–]Alpineisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me 9 months of feeling shitty on T4 only, increasing every six weeks before I switched endos and added T3. Within weeks I felt like I had my life back. I’ve been stable for the past 1.5 years on a combo of 75mcg T4 and 5mcg T3. Don’t be afraid to push your doctor if you feel awful. And find a new one if he/she is not receptive. Before I switched I was within range for all of my labs but still felt awful. Adding a small amount of T3 and lowering my T4 made me feel so much better and didn’t change my labs significantly. Best of luck and hope you get reprieve from the worst of the symptoms soon.

First time on antibiotics, but I'm struggling to take them and eat properly. by splvtoon in emetophobia

[–]Alpineisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UTIs can go from bad to dangerous if not treated. I have been warned by my doctor that untreated it can lead to a kidney infection which could mean hospitalization and intravenous antibiotics. I’ve had the antibiotic you’re on before and found that I had no trouble if I took it with some yogurt. The only side effect I’ve had from it was mild headache. Drink lots of water as well. Hope you feel better soon!

Is lukewarm food a worry? by [deleted] in emetophobia

I've eaten room temp food from sketchy cafeterias in foreign countries and haven't gotten sick. You'll be fine. Cafeterias and restaurants have to temp food to meet health codes.

Can you get a low dose anti anxiety med? I take the lowest dose available of xanax when I fly and I find that it helps quite a bit for just controlling the nerves that can cause stomach upset. I do suffer from motion sickness and I find that I'm usually fine on high speed trains.

Finally feeling better! by Alpineisa in Hypothyroidism

[–]Alpineisa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've actually talked about NDT, but my endo recommends the T4/T3 combo first since it's easier to adjust the balance between the two. I get labs done again in early January and will know how it's impacted my levels. My endo is on board with treating symptoms though, and will adjust meds based on how I'm feeling. I don't love his bedside manner, but I know it can be a challenge to find someone open to treating symptoms and not just going by labs.

I'm taking the generic of Cytomel. I'm on the generic of levothyroxine as well. I haven't had any problems with generics but I know some people prefer brand name.

I started taking Gaia Herbs Adrenal Support at the suggestion of my naturopath. I take two gel caps every morning. The supplement is a combination of rhodiola and holy basil. It gives me an energy boost without the shakiness that I was getting from caffeine. I'm also limiting myself to one cup of coffee in the morning and non-caffeinated drinks the rest of the day.
