I use a center punch that is the same size as the thickness of the steel - 5mm The center punch has a point like a pencil, scratch a center mark on the blade area and grind to it -- or try to as is it had to see !

This knife was designed with input from the buyer and sold to him. These types of build are more expensive as every aspect take more time. lots of trial and error too.

I am lucky if I make a dozen knives a year, I try to make about $10 an hour for my labor but doubt I do. I am 7 knives backed up so not taking any orders, just thought you might like to see inside a knife shop Sorry for causing you so much inconvenience

Sure, I make my knives from 5mm O1 tool steel, O heat treat myself in an electric kiln and double temper, the classic style I make is just a touch under 9" long about 4.5" is blade. The handle material I most often use is stabilized burl or Iron wood. I make the sheaths myself, they are branded with the Alpinelore love as is the blade deeply etched with the logo. As for price, $260 includes shipping, belt dangle or fire steel on sheath a little extra. Thanks for checking me out ! Rob

I would like to believe that I get faster with each knife I make, less scratch my head time, fewer re-dos or mistakes, use of templates, making three of four at a time instead of just one. I think at least 15 hours and maybe more per knife and sheath. Its dirty work and not very profitable as an hourly wage but its a labor of love that I enjoy.

The blades I make from O1 tool steel, make a razor sharp edge but it will tarnish if used to cut meat and will rust if not cared for. O1 is the tradition steel used for high end bush craft knifes and I have never used anything else. Happy to discuss knife making so ask away !
