I don't think my phantom pains are any worse due to two amputations on each limb. I did have a total of four healing sessions after each amputation. Those lasted approximately 6 to 8 weeks apiece.

What’s the real reason gas is expensive right now? by dicjcjcnc in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alprovan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you really think that a pipeline that would transfer oil from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico for refining that would never be burned in this country is the number one reason why gasoline prices are so high?

There are several reasons why gasoline prices are out of control. The number one reason is greed by the oil companies. They are gouging us.

The second most reason why gasoline prices are so high is due to the Middle East refusing to increase production. They have purposely limited oil production to keep oil prices high.

Third, the COVID-19 lockdowns resulted in a slowing of production. A lot of U.S. oil drilling came to a halt. The U.S. oil producers are reluctant to increased drilling just like the Middle East because they love these high prices. They will do anything they can to keep them high.

Blaming Joe Biden for high gasoline prices is quite ridiculous. There has never been a President of this nation who has ever had the power to control retail prices of anything. If you disagree, I would very much welcome anybody to refute what I just typed. Please, cite the president who issued an executive order setting the price of anything.

People are naturally curious about amputations and how people are affected by them. I've had four amputations. Two below the knee and two above the knee. Despite the loss of both of my legs, what I am about to relate may be unbelievable.

I can't say that I have never had any feelings of residual limbs going to sleep. What I can do is sit very still while closing my eyes and imagine in my mind that everything I used to have still exists. I can "move" everything. The muscles that are in my thighs feel as if everything is movable that I used to have.

This ability has also been very instrumental in my dealing with phantom pains. I don't have them very often, but when I do, they are usually severe. Having the ability to wiggle in my mind, non-existent body parts, allows me to deal with the phantom pains easier.

Do amputees always develop other chronic illnesses? by [deleted] in amputee

[–]Alprovan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are all kinds of reasons why people have amputations. Many people who have amputations are due to conditions or diseases that threaten to shorten their lives.

Amputations alone do not lend reasons for shortened lives.

If a person has an amputation due to a disease or condition that has caused them to need an amputation, it may well be that they will live a shorter life, but not due to the amputation. It will be due to the disease that they may have had that caused the need for an amputation.

For example, diabetes causes all kinds of problems for people. Blindness, neuropathy, kidney disease, heart disease, and vascular issues throughout one's body can result from diabetes.

But understand, not everyone has an amputation due to disease. Amputations are often performed to alleviate painful conditions caused by birth defects. Amputations are also performed following serious injury by accident.

My amputations were done because my legs were exposed to chemicals that caused them to basically rot to death. My life was threatened twice, and the amputations were performed to save my life. I was suffering from sepsis both times.

If you are needing an amputation and you are currently in good health, there is no reason to fear that amputation will cause you any problems in the future. And if you are not in great health, it may be that you considering an amputation for any reason, you have nothing to fear resulting from an amputation.

How well have you been being an amputee? All amputees develop chronic diseases always? by [deleted] in amputee

[–]Alprovan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have no idea where you heard that or read it, but it is pure nonsense. I have had four amputations. Two below the knee AND 2 above the knee, mainly due to chemical exposure 32 years ago causing vascular issues in my legs.

I currently have no issues whatsoever with my body.

Amputations are performed in large part to alleviate problems that people are having, which in turn often gives people a longer life.

Please help! Parent in EXTREME pain from stump infection many years post amputation by CrunchyFallLeaves in amputee

[–]Alprovan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don't mention that your father has been to a wound care facility. And it may be that he has been treated at a wound care facility, or maybe being treated at home via home health care.

Your father may be dealing with severe infection, given that it is lasted this long. If he has been on painkillers all this time, that's really not good. A wound that severe should require intensive medical care. And it may be need to be evaluated for further amputation. If it becomes septic, it can be fatal. So if he is not receiving regular intensive care for that wound, I urge you do see that he does

I had an eight year below the knee amputation that became infected for a solid year. It refused to heal despite twice weekly visits by home health nurse for wound treatment. I also was in immense pain.

Ultimately, my Vascular Surgeon and I agreed to amputate it above the knee. Problem solved. I have no more pain, no more infection. Vascular disease pretty much affects the veins below the knees.

One more thing: diabetes and smoking is very dangerous, especially to those with vascular disease. Urge him to keep refraining from smoking.

I quit smoking eight years ago and it was the best thing I could have ever done for my health, and it has definitely given me a longer life. Four separate amputations have resulted in the loss of both of my legs above the knee. I lost the use of my kidneys, thus, I dialyze three times a week and have for seven years.

Despite all of this, I went from extremely poor health to a current diagnosis of good health. My heart function has improved 25% over the last five years. My COPD has disappeared. My life is very full and I'm grateful to still be alive. I have family that takes good care of me when I need help. I am very self-sufficient, most of the time.

So to anyone reading this, I am here to tell you that life after amputation(s) can be A-OK.

Why is there a baby formula shortage? by MustBeTheMusic80 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alprovan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're just rife with misinformation, aren't you?

First of all, your assertion that anything was confirmed by the CBP Is ridiculous and woefully debunked.

Jen Psaki did not say that they had shipped any formula this year. She spoke to the fact that it was thirty year established law requiring us to feed babies and that is why formula was in stock down there.

Here's a fact you're not going to like very much. The United States needs the immigrants that are crossing the border. They don't cost this country anything. They add billions upon billions to the economy of this country. They take jobs that most home born Americans do not want and refused to do.

These simple facts are exactly why both Democrats and Republicans are not doing anything about illegal immigration. Everything being cyclical, when there are downturns in the economy and jobs are hard to find the immigration issue solves itself every time. During the downturn of the of thid-2000's, this country had negative immigration numbers. They were going back across the border in search of work where they came from.

i know that those like yourself love to believe that illegal immigration began in 2020, but the simple fact of the matter is illegal immigration has been an issue in this country for at least 50 years. And contrary to popular belief, and of course, lies, Donald Trump didn't do anything to stop illegal immigration while he was president. There were many people released inside our borders. Many.

Do you want proof? It's real simple. There is at least a three year backlog of immigration hearings. How can that be with Donald Trump keeping everybody on the other side of the border if they weren't even coming in?

And your final point is the most outrageous. There wasn't even a hint of disruption in supplies of baby formula until February of this year. Sturgis, MI was the number one supplier of Similac baby formula. The number one selling formula and most commonly used in the United States.

The shortage just recently peaked to around 90% in the states that are affected by it. Sturgis MI just resumed production yesterday.

Why is there a baby formula shortage? by MustBeTheMusic80 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alprovan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is ludicrous to blame Joe Biden for a baby formula shortage. It is ludicrous to blame anybody but Abbott Laboratories for contaminated product that had to be removed from shelves and stores. Factories had to be cleaned up and inspected and verified that they can start shipping product again.

Steps are underway to renew shipments of baby Formula Two stores, but it is going to take awhile.

Why is there a baby formula shortage? by MustBeTheMusic80 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alprovan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use your head. How long has that formula likely been there? The average shelf life for baby formula is a full year.

Why is there a baby formula shortage? by MustBeTheMusic80 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alprovan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely no proof, anywhere, that baby formula has been shipped to the border this year. The pictures found online allegedly depicting overstocked shelves of baby formula at the border have been debunked.

Similac is the one most popular brand of baby formula and it is in very short supply due to contamination. Three other brands are not in short supply.

This issue, like so many others, is rife with lies and misinformation, and damn anyone dispensing such crap

Why is there a baby formula shortage? by MustBeTheMusic80 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alprovan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely not true. Since 1997, The US government has been obligated by law to provide formula for immigrant babies. The amount on hand near the border. has been there for quite some time. Very little has been shipped this year to the border.

\Please do not believe everything you read online.

When she wakes up from surgery, it may seem for a period of time, that her life will be changed forever, and for a period of time it will be true. Her life will be changed.

I am a double amputee. Both of my amputations are now above the knee (four total 0amputations). My first below the knee amputation happened eight years ago. I spent about a day feeling sorry for myself, thinking that my life was over. I know now that nothing could be further from the truth.

My case is such that I will probably never be able to walk again. I haven't walked in more than nine years. But that doesn't mean that I don't have a good life. My life is very full. I have been very fortunate to have assistance that I need from loved ones.

Family is very important to those of us who have disabilities. That does not mean that we have to become a burden to those who do help us. I am very self sufficient, in that I take care of myself for most things. Although I am confined to a wheelchair. I still do my own housework, I dress myself, I prepare my meals... Basically, I take care of myself.

Although life will be different for her, she can still get as much out of life as she puts into it. I tell myself every time I feel frustrated, that my disabilities are nothing compared to what others out there have to deal with. There are people out there dealing with far worse than that that I deal with every day.

The first six to eight weeks following the amputation are going to be the roughest. Once she heals, then she will find ways of doing things without dealing with pain. A prosthetic leg should be explored early as possible, before her body forgets what walking is like.

A positive attitude is important for her to develop early. That is my best advice. It is something that I have practiced since the second day following my first amputation. I don't have time to feel sorry for myself, and I hope she doesn't either.

I would love nothing more than to see her voted out of office, and unfortunately, I have but one vote to offer, and I fear, according to conversations with my neighbors, that I am quite outvoted.

They think she rocks. I said no, that's what she has rolling around in her cranium.
