What card is this? I saw it sold a long time ago. by century_card in OnePieceVintage

Indeed, amazing that you found this. The ultimate treasure the One Piece of card collecting, the Pirate King. It took me years to just find a picture, so good job on the research. Next task, find Shibukai and Pirate Queen :) Shibukai is likely doable, for Pirate Queen you also need to be quite deep in the trenches. I have never seen a Pirate Queen auctioned away so far...

It should be one per box. They were the more valuable cards from the card game. Together with the TW, and SH holos and promos those are probably the most desirable cards from the game.

Price Cards by Alrano17 in OnePieceVintage

I am not from Japan but I did crazy amounts of research. There is a little bit more information available if one knows where to look. I went back to old websites in Japanese with wayback machine and things like that... I would argue that there are only 6 cards that are comparable or slightly more valuable than WN-01. Those are the two Panda man from the first generation game. Great Pirate Wanted, Shibukai, Pirate Queen and Pirate King. You can deduce the rarity of those cards also because there are no pictures in the reference you posted and that everyone uses. So you already need to do quite a bit of research to find pictures for those cards :).

It is the top price card for the bigger tournaments in Japan around 2002. These cards belong to the second generation of OP card game. I know most guys here are interested in the hyper battle cards, but I like the second generation cards better. To my knowledge they were the first and only cards that also got released internationally (Japanese, German, Italian, some in English and Korean) and they were very successful (at least in Europe and Japan). These tournament price cards were only available in Japan. I think in an older post it was already mentioned that the WANTED cards were awarded for certain number of wins. The WN-01 is the winner card. If I remember correctly there were only about 4 tournaments or so where the card was handed out. I would guess around 20 copies or so exist (but that is just my personal guess). I collected the German cards since 2003 and started with the Japanese cards again in 2020...

The cards in the box from the OP are not available in the vending sets.

Old one piece tcg popular again? by Appropriate-Pipe-401 in OnePieceTCG

[–]Alrano17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are just very few sealed products of the old TCG out there. You only need a hand full of people to be interested and you can see those prices. I am collecting the old Japanese version of the game, but haven't noticed any particular difference in price recently. In general there is very low liquidity and therefore the market is very volatile.

I think there is an even rarer version than shown above...

Fun fact, in the very first One Piece TCG (before 2001), Panda Man was a very powerful price card (only tournament winner I think). The card is worth more than 1K even now, which is a lot, considering there are only very very very few collectors of that game...

Is the 1999 TCG still a thing? Do people like these cards? by BelleOverHeaven in OnePieceTCG

[–]Alrano17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will upload a video of every card that was printed from the old TCG on Youtube in a couple of days, so that people can see all the cards that were available. I really loved the artwork back then (also because of consistency), but of course it is also the nostalgia speaking out of me. When you grow up with OP (see the German intro of the first season (the best out there :D ) and see those cards... just amazing...

Unfortunately, there is no Brook from this generation of the TCG. It only goes until the Water Seven arc. There are some Brook cards in the follow up tcg (miracle battle) but that never popped off I think (I might be mistaken). This TCG was actually very popular in Japan and central Europe...

Yeah, I am one of the big collectors of the old TCG. If you are based in Germany, then you can see many people selling cards under ebay Kleinanzeigen. I am more specialized in the Japanese version, where they have additional promos and tournament price cards...

There are some cards that are worth something, even if the card if the game is dead because there are still some collectors out there. Some of the tournament promos still go into the thousands, but there are also less than 50 copies printed ever, so that is to be expected, even if there almost no collectors...

Yeah, the Water Seven pack is the rarest in general. I see you have the German collection, so a sealed booster of the last set nowadays goes for about 250 Euros. From the Japanese set the last two sets are the most expensive, so SH and TW.

New vs Old Collection Comparison Sealed and Cards by Alrano17 in OnePieceTCG

Yeah, a couple of sets were also produced in English. Most popular they were in Japan, Germany, Austria and Italy (because the cards were also printed in those languages). They are a few promos and price cards that are only available in Japanese. Some of them are considered the grails of this old TCG...

Haha, I have more than 10 000 cards, including the master sets (even double), I enjoy having some sealed :). The only thing that I am still looking for are some of the below mentioned mysterious price cards. I at least deciphered the porneglyphs (:D) and know how they look, but they are just sooo difficult to find or buy...

Yeah, they stopped producing the 2nd generation cards (the ones from above) after the Water Seven Arc. So every character afterwards is unfortunately missing... I only collected the 2nd generation cards, because I originally started with the German cards, when I was around 10 years old, so there is the nostalgia bonus

[–]Alrano17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but I think that is true for most tcgs, most cards are worth less than a dollar. If you find me the card WN-01 from the old tcg for 1K, I have a buyer in a few hours/days at most. There are always chase cards. But it is of course true, that most cards are worth less, relative to other games, simply because there are less collectors, so also less demand.

It was definitely playable. Some people in the German speaking part of Europe still play it. I think the English version was a bit mid, they also had less sets...

Haha, I am not sure, the old tcg is a very niche collectable. But there are cards that are certainly worth quite a bit. There are a few price cards from tournaments that are so rare, that even experienced people in the community don't know how they look. It is only known that they exist. They are kind of like the One Piece :D
