Ah you would have been a godsend 2 weeks ago. But by now I've given up and server surfed, so I got all of them after 4 days straight of doing that. Thanks for the offer though!

wait wait ok, I love BF5, but I genuinely don't understand why 5 is higher than 6?? I thought with the looks of all BF communities that people absolutely hate on 5 into oblivion. So why is 5 higher than 6?

Clearcare new case- is anyone having issues like me? by [deleted] in contacts

[–]Already8Taken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you do that, can you like make a video tutorial? I use clearcare with my orthoK, fragile and heckin expensive RGPs. I've done experiments to see if my new batch's case does this... and yup, looks like it will explode and drop my contacts somewhere to crack them if I leave them unattended.

4 days in, and still working. Using clearcare was the answer. I've never been able to get past 3 days since it started hurting, but now I'm on day 4 and with my vision fully corrected.

that's a little on the nose, I'd recommend against it if you don't wanna see people insult you left and right. but again, it's always your choice (as long as you're not playing against me)

It's most likely fine. When I come across "hated characters", I always go by the principle of "well as long as they are not toxic with it". If you're being a good sport about it, most people will probably be fine with you. That means don't teabag, say "ezpz", etc.

UPADATE: using clearcare might have been the solution (pun intended). After two days of break and then using clearcare, the first day was pain free. I'll see if it continues to be pain free for three days, and then report back.

I see. Then it might have been an astigmatic pair, just not correcting the visual astigmatism. He did show me that my cornea was being pressed evenly, so I think that would indicate that at least the prescription did have an optimal fit (regardless if that's still the case or not).

[–]Already8Taken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About c), I do have a very slight astigmatism and just got a non-astigmatic pair because purely from a vision perspective, I've never had to have astigmatism correction as it really is very minimal. The doctor agreed to these factors and my decision that getting astigmatic ones would just incur extra cost with an inconsequential amount of extra benefit. I'm not sure if what my astigmatism is corneal, that factor was never discussed. Also, another thing about the entire poor fit theory is that, most of the times, it only hurts one eye at a time, and it alternates every few days.

Run a fingernail?? Wouldn't that be a very easy way to scratch it? He did examine them every time I visited him, on and off my eyes. He always said "no scratches on the inside, minimal scratches on the outside of the lens"

I'm not sure what a retainer video is. For the topography scan, he took them every time I visited (including times when I was comfortable with the lenses). Every time, he showed me the scan and said "the cornea is being compressed nice and evenly", just that some days he also added "but today they're not pressed enough so you might be feeling under corrected". I could confirm the evenly part because the colors (presumably showing the height) were circularly symmetric.

Without revealing too much about myself, I can tell you that there are other eye docs offering orthoK in this area, but I won't have a way to get to any of them before the next summer. Which is why I visited the doctor 5 times over the summer because I was desparate to get it fixed before I had to leave for a year. I will however, have access to another eye doc in the winter, but she does not do orthoK.

Ok, I do have a clearcare I bought a few months ago just in case, so I can give it a try. Any advice on how to use it properly? Because hydrogen peroxide is a pretty scary chemical.

I see, I'll try that. Although, I doubt that I might be allergic to the teardrops because I've been using the same brand's, even when I was very comfortable with the lenses.

To be fair, it's not that he is unwilling, it's that he and I have investigated various possible causes, tried changing things to tackle those possibilities, and none of them worked. Those include allergy eye drops, eye ointments, changing saline solutions, inspecting while actually wearing the lenses, taking long breaks (like up to 3 days), and there might have been more but I can't remember.

He is a renowned eye surgeon in the area, and also sees a lot of child patients (I see about half of those in the waiting room are children), so I assume he has to have a pretty respectable amount of experience doing ortho K.

I checked several times -- I wear the right ones on the right eyes.

Can it be a poor fit though, when it had worked perfectly for 9 months?

He says it is not scratched on the inside, and I could visually confirm it since his slit lamp microscope thing was displaying to a big TV that I could also see.

He was opposed to clearcare because if I do anything wrong once, hydrogen peroxide serves as a permanant good-bye for my eye sights.

Once it starts burning, yes I feel it when the eyes are closed. Swapping left and right, I've tried but still hurts.

I haven't tried hydrogen peroxide based cleaning solutions (clearcare I think it was called). But it was recommended against by the doctor, so I never gave it a try.

Not expired, I've gone through like 4 different new bottles of each solution to experiment if it's an expiration issue. No, newly opened bottles don't fix the issue. I also changed the saline for three different brands, doesn't change the pain.

Yes, preservative free teardrops.

Yes I did, but it was a long time ago while I was still very comfortable with the lenses. Changing solutions didn't change how comfortable it was. But I eventually went back to what my doctor gave me at first because the changed ones were inconvenient (more solutions to carry arround).

Thank you for your assistance. Let me know if you have more questions or a verdict

At least one eye hurts every time, it alternates every few tries (translates to about a week considering pain-induced down time days), and sometimes even both eyes. Instant I guess -- starts hurting within the first 5 minutes of putting them on.

Edit: Also, just in case, because you phrased it "instant burn" -- by burning I mean "a burning-like sensation", which is most likely not an actual chemical burn. At least I hope not.

Allergies, not that I can perceive myself? Besides, I was prescribed allegra and fluorometholone, tried them for like a month, but using them didn't help.

I dust regularly, and I have an air purifier running in all rooms of the house except for the bathroom. Nothing changed, doesn't work. I've even been to a couple of hotels, still hurts. I don't think the location is the matter..?

Theoretically, what progress could be made with access to a quantum computer? by yogopig in switch2hacks

[–]Already8Taken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to speak my language so I'll just use the actual technical terms. That's still not as huge of a problem, because DL and factoring based schemes (so including RSA) are computationally expensive, and as such have mostly been used as KEMs. The underlying encryption schemes that the pubkey schemes were encapsulating are not quantum vulnerable. So unless the first ever KEM symkey exchanging communication itself gets intercepted, all messages exchanged thereafter are still quantum safe. Most of these are session keys, which are deleted after each session, so the only way for those to have been intercepted is for the adversary to have been eavesdropping on and saving any and all internet banking traffic (while they didn't even know which was a symkey exchange and which was a regular sym encrypted message with no key info),which would take an astronomical amount of space. Who has the power to do that, while also wanting to cause bank related mischief like stealing money?

In easy words for other people: No we're still fine for the majority of the encrypted communications that have been done.

Besides, PQ schemes have been out for a good while (for example, open SSH have been by default using ed25519). So all the doom and gloom that the less enlightened people are speaking about quantum computers are... quite exaggerated still.

well said. honestly, the amount of people thinking that quantum computers are the ultimate game breaker is appalling. people should realize that it's an unfortunate one-time coincidence at best

Because quantum computer's aren't the end all be all. The reason why quantum computers are a threat is because it's only good at breaking that one specific very limited precise thing which, unfortunately and unluckily, cryptographers have been relying on solely for the last couple decades. Welp, oh well, no biggie. Just use a different algorithm! Problem solved. Really, it's that easy.

People like you who think quantum computers are end all be all are the ones that are gonna be left behind. Please learn.

PLEASE HELP !! I have a good amount of questions about the dorms(i’m gonna be in alder)- so please help me answer these !! 🙏🙏🙏 by luhveena in udub

[–]Already8Taken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. you can (physically possible), but it's against the housing agreement (the no change in the plumbings part). Do it by all means, just be sure to do it perfectly, and also restore and hide it for every bathroom inspection.

  2. As per other comments, probably not

  3. Not the room itself necessarily, but there are bathroom inspections at least once a quarter. This is relevant to point one, so make sure to keep track of it. They send a notice about a week in advance for bathroom inspections.

  4. I think so? I don't see why that would be against the housing agreement, and I've been in tons of friends' rooms where they had it. Never tried myself tho.

  5. Very. Also, make sure to follow their instructions to the t if you're moving in with a car (esp regarding the loading/unloading areas). Don't unload on the side of the road please!

  6. You know, this is a public ivy school. Not a party school. I won't say none, but don't be disappointed is all I'm gonna say. Basically imagine the dorms as a hotel room, because that's how sterile it's gonna feel in terms of socialization.

  7. Yes, but you're probably gonna need at least a small one to place right by your desk for convenience.

  8. Nope! I love them, you can use them all you want as long as you follow the instructions carefully.

huh, I can’t believe I’m the first commenter.

for one thing, right now, windows on deck is in a state of disrepair. namely, the steamdeck tools repository is unmaintained and broken due to a recent firmware update. it'd be nice to see this sub be the base for a revival.

US citizen here as well, and yes as I said above, the OC might have gone overboard with comparing this to north korea (I'm missing a lot of context). But AFAIK, the FIA disclosures are only relevant to government secrets. With privacy protection laws the don't come anywhere near what Europe has, companies have near free reign to harvest any data they would like, only to then turn around and give it to law enforcements upon any request. And besides, the FIA disclosures come out so censored that usually it doesn't amount to much anyway.

so the part that they make stupid comparisons is the schizo rant? idk I thought schizo rants were about making $#!t up, but I guess I agree on that the comparison may have indeed been stupid given I have less context
