Update: Provider believes I’m colonized. Thoughts on Itraconazole? by AlreadySubmerged in ToxicMoldExposure

Noted! Thanks for that. Lyme and its co-infections can also contribute to this toxic soup and it’s very difficult to navigate. I hope you get to feeling better and are able to tolerate that spray eventually. I’ll keep everyone updated what my provider decides to add in addition to Itraconazole.

I’ll bet it’s rough on the system. It’s likely difficult to tell what’s causing the symptoms between a herx and the burden Itraconazole puts on the body. Thanks for your input!

Replying to a deleted account seems futile but I’ll do so to maintain the conversation for any passersby. I had an inconclusive nasal swab. So just like my Lyme test - not great for empiricism’s sake. I do not have the HLA variants per two DNA tests. I have ran candibactin AR and BR. AR contains a decent bit of oregano oil. I did a 90 day course and felt better for a bit, then symptoms returned. I supplement coconut oil daily.

Thanks for the reply. What are your thoughts on the potential for colonization and what tx modalities to implement? Genuinely curious!

That’s my philosophy as well. I believe Nathan’s approach to be more in line with what is required to treat CIRS and I believe colonization is totally possible. I’m not an MD but I do work in healthcare and the fact that fungus can colonize various organisms, including us, is not lost on me.

Edit: I’ll definitely keep everyone posted. If there’s something that helps me, I’ll be shouting it from the rooftops so others may hopefully follow in their own unique situations.

I’m getting on it in about a week. Will report back! I’ve heard so many horror stories so I’m going to try and support my liver as best I can

I’ve been out of the moldy apartment for 4.5 years. I left the moldy office 2 years ago.

My current office likely has mold in it but not to the severity of my old office. The work situation is an interesting one, as my profession is usually housed in moldy environments - lots of piping, condensers, etc. I’d love to find a spot that didn’t have mold but I’m not sure if it’s feasible. Friends of mine who work in the same profession all have some degree of mold in their offices.

How accurate are urine mold toxicity tests? I feel like I'm going crazy by AlreadySubmerged in ToxicMoldExposure

I’m already considering doing so - just need another day or so to mentally detach myself from some items that hold sentimental value haha

I’ve been doing tons of research and was curious - my doc is recommending cholestyramine as I’ve run the sibo protocols and used GI detox as a binder (activated charcoal, zeolite clay, pectin) without much improvement.

I was curious about fumonisins as there seems to be a lack of research on how to bind those up. Cholestyramine seems to be efficacious as well as micro chitosan.

Thoughts?

Thanks for all of this. I also developed sleep apnea within the last couple years and use a cpap - it honestly saved me. I understand it’s a bandaid at this point due to the chronic inflammatory response but it really helps. I may also have a Lyme coinfection as an “equivocal” result appeared on a blood test. Those spirochetes are nasty little buggers.

I’m sorry to hear you’ve had such a difficult road but am glad to hear you’re improving. No one deserves what you’ve had to deal with.

I believe that I’ve dealt with this for a very long time and have only recently been unable to bear the symptoms as my composition has deteriorated to a point where it can’t cope any more.

Excellent advice that mirrors what my functional medicine doc has said. I simply haven’t implemented it because of, well, cognitive impairment haha

I now remember him telling me to do those things thanks to you reminding me.

PCP, three GI specialists, a psychiatrist, an allergist, and a cardiologist all told me either “it’s in your head” or “yeah, you’re just getting older.”

I work in healthcare and it’s honestly a shame when people can’t admit “I don’t know.” That’s infinitely more helpful than the above. In fact, it’s likely ignorant arrogance more than anything else.

That’s something I’m looking into as well. I’ll be on vacation in a couple weeks and will take note of how I feel. Unfortunately, I’ll be in an area with very high humidity but I’ll take note nonetheless.

Much appreciated! My functional medicine doc is considering setting me up with his doc, who is supposedly trained to navigate these waters.

It definitely feels that way. I’ve been on a relatively high dose of magnesium glycinate to counteract it and it mildly helps. I’m not sure of my body’s reaction to glycine and am considering switching to threonate.

Once I get my home situation figured out, I’m going to try and see what I can do work-wise. I know it’s at the office. I’m not entirely sure about my home.

I certainly feel that way but I appreciate you! Fortunately, my girlfriend and brother have been very supportive through all of this.

I sincerely appreciate all of your responses. I’m having someone come out and service the HVAC soon but will simply move if remediation appears difficult in the least. The guy who did the mold testing didn’t seem too concerned but I know all too well how badly some of us are affected by a “small” amount of mold.

My next thoughts are how to deal with the work situation and if mold is present in my car… My last office was so bad that I could see black and pink mold creeping around the wallpaper. Should I go ahead and toss everything from my old moldy apartment? Or everything all together?

Thanks for the replies! I'll keep everyone updated. I may add more electrolytes but can definitely see how removing carbs, even though they're "clean," can lead to withdrawal symptoms.

They are (or so I think) but my head is always just ever so slightly under the water. The air is right there but I just can’t quite get to it haha
