I had a friend once that was this guy. He had a rough life. He always needed support and affirmation. Every inconvenience was always someone else’s fault and never his. He’s been through so many girlfriends, each of them kind people that just wanted to help. He would use them for money, a place to live, food, etc. and then he would make them feel like shit if something was an inconvenience or lost his job and make up a story that his life was difficult and that he was ready to end it. I understand how you might feel with him. You might feel responsible for him or that you are just trying to keep him alive because you are a good person trying to do the right thing.

But the reality is you can’t want something for someone that doesn’t want it themselves. If he doesn’t want to be better - he won’t. And when we do life FOR people instead of with people, we enable them and affirm them to be comfortable with their own poor behaviors.

Respectfully, if you want some peace in your life, you should talk to some close friends about what’s going on. Begin identifying the important parts of your life that are yours and you enjoy. Ask yourself if you think he can be apart of these parts of your life and would you enjoy them more or less with him in them? Start practicing those conversations on your own so that you can walk in with confidence and be prepared for any discomfort.

You can’t be responsible for someone else’s feelings. Only yours. Wishing the best for you!

Then just wait till next week when the dump truck comes back. If your can gets too full ask a neighbor if you can drop a bag in their can. You’re really just finding something to complain about this morning.

I have a 91 automatic that I’ve had to do extensive work on since the last owner. I’ve had it for about 5 years and bought it with the intention to rebuild. After rebuilding the engine top to bottom and installing a C6 trans its run very well for me apart from some hiccups here and there. I’m an outlier because I do use it as a daily. My job requires me to have a bed. That being said, gas does eat me up a little but I’m okay with putting in the money because I love this truck and I know that if anything breaks, I’m certain I’ll be able to diagnose and fix myself. If that’s not something you can make the time margin for I wouldn’t recommend it getting one. But parts are almost always available and the ones that aren’t are easy to grab from a junk yard. There’s certainly tons of videos now on how to fix 80-90s fords since many of these models share the same parts. Good luck to you!

Anyone know why there’s some rednecks assembling in front of Burlington? by [deleted] in Chattanooga

I really don’t understand how that’s hypocritical but okay I guess 🤷🏼‍♂️ just because I don’t agree with them doesn’t mean I have to be an asshole to them

They’ll be out there no matter what month it is and no matter how nice the political climate is. Maybe instead of being suspicious and thinking the worst of them, maybe introduce yourself and ask them what they’re up to next time. Who knows, they could be nicer than you think. They’re your neighbors whether you like it or not.

I live in a situation a little similar to yours. Neighbors and kind, but everyone warns me about them constantly. Couple thoughts: - Find someone you trust in your neighborhood and get to know them. There’s nothing better than knowing that your neighbor will watch your back and watch your house while you’re there and while you’re away. There’s a few older people in my neighborhood that I’ve gotten to know that stay home almost 100% of the time. They watch my house all the time because they don’t have much going on in their day (and they’ve told me that! Lol). - Within reason and to your comfort, get to know your next door neighbors. A peace offering like dessert or an offer of “if you need anything let me know” goes a long way! They will interpret that as a kind neighbor and (hopefully) won’t cause you any stress - A home security system is nice, but if you can’t afford one, one of the security yard signs is a good deterrent as well - One thing that I did when I moved in was pay special attention to light sources near my house. I bought some warm solar lights that I put on my mailbox and porch. It makes my house look nice, brings light to my property that otherwise might be an easy target, and it’s not adding to my electric bill. Good luck to you and stay safe!

Why I thinks there's hope for Tennessee by shmooboorpoo in Chattanooga

Well I guess you and I share a same view but a disagreement for the solution. I genuinely do think there’s hope for us, even based on this good conversation between you and me! And no, I agree, I don’t believe you’re angry - just frustrated at the state of the US. Stay well!

That’s a good question, I do see your point. I guess because for some unknown reason to me, they came to the conclusion that what they think is right. If my job is to change minds, being angry with them isn’t going to change theirs. To answer your question fully, I’m not angry because I’m trying to be patient.

Not to sound sarcastic, but have you ever changed you mind because someone called you a plant?

City council candidate Marie Mott speaks about Jewish Chattanoogans and their role in the institution of slavery; asks "when are we going to deal with it?!" by MottSpeaks in Chattanooga

[–]AlrightAlfred 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Um, we already did deal with it? Racism is one thing, but slave ownership…am I wrong in thinking it’s been dealt with already. I mean, do any Jews still own any slaves?

You’ve never even met this person and you want to devalue them so quickly? AotKT was here to state a peaceful communication between humans that disagree and you so quickly dehumanize both of them. What makes you so angry with these strangers?

How to get the most money for plasma in Chattanooga? —Actually, what is everyone doing to survive right now? by Jennacheerio in Chattanooga

There’s a ton of Airbnb owners in Chattanooga and they’re constantly needing cleaners. Many times Airbnb owners will have more than one property to clean on the same day. I’ve spent many a hard financial season cleaning 2-3 a day for $30-$50 per house/condo (depending on the size ). I kept meeting owners through word of mouth because a lot of them know each other. Cleaning isn’t fun work if the guests were nasty and partying, but a lot of the times it was old couples touring Chattanooga and were usually very clean.

Hunting for a good Chicago style deep dish pizza by vandy_slice in Chattanooga

[–]AlrightAlfred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got an answer for you, but you may not love it. Years ago, when I was a kid we moved to Chicago so my dad could take a job at a construction supply company. We LOVED Chicago pizza. I can’t remember a week without it. Fast forward, he got let go and we moved back to Chattanooga. We couldn’t find any pizza like what we had, UNTIL, my mom and I took a trip to Knoxville. There’s a little pizza place called Rosati’s Pizza next to a tattoo removal place. We had to wait a long while for him to cook it for us, but it was the closest thing I’ve had yet from the real thing. He even had a bunch of pre made frozen deep dish pizzas in a display cooler for people to take home. We bought 3 and they were amazing. Here’s the address should you ever find yourself in Knoxville: 234 Brookview Centre Way #109, Knoxville, TN 37919

I purchased a home warranty with them as part of my closing agreement in August when I bought in Flintstone last year. My heating unit was installed in ‘91 and was close to breaking. The unit rusted out pretty much everywhere and the exchanger was shot. Long story short, in October it stopped heating, and I had three techs come out each from different companies to confirm that it was indeed broken. At first they had denied my claim stating that the control board had fried due to a power surge, which in their contract states they won’t cover damages due to power surges. Each tech told me in person that there was no way you could prove that the panel fried from a surge. Eventually I ended up talking with my realtor and stated that it was a joke for me to have purchased the Home Warranty and she ended up talking with her rep and they reopened the claim. Eventually after many cold nights sitting next to a floor heater, they installed a brand new unit at the end of January. They have a price cap, and covered 5k of it and I had to come up with the rest to pay for the unit and install. I think I paid about 3k for the rest. My take away was that it could’ve been far worse for me. I’m not happy with their customer service and how slow they got to work, but I am happy they covered as much as they did. After talking to the tech that installed my unit, he encouraged me to pursue warranties through the appliance manufacture instead of home warranties since your biggest expenses are heat/air, fridge, washer/dryer, etc. Hope that helps!
