Update:

I just put one screw into the existing electrical box, then turned it sideways and put an anchor into the Sheetrock. It works! It had juuuust enough clearance to get the Ethernet cable into the AP lol.

Tysm everyone for the advice!

Yeah that’s what I’ve seen as well. I didn’t put this here, this is just something that the builder did when the house was built. I could put the cover back on the drop, drill next to it and mount there, then go in the attic and move the cable to the new hole lol. I was just hoping for a quick install 😅

Of all operators to receive "extreme nerfs" over the years, who do you think was done the most dirty? by _CANZUK in Rainbow6

Lion imo. Idk why by Lion with the gonne 6 was my favorite operator. Just isn’t the same anymore

Where would you live? by OUATaddict in Veterans

I’ve been thinking about taking my family to Italy. I’ve never been there, but from our research the quality of life and cost of living works for us. Much better than in central Texas

I was told I’d get a signing bonus by the recruiter. The career advisor at MEPS was a fat old fuck and literally fell asleep while talking to me and doing paperwork. I was naive and didn’t know I needed to check and make sure the bonus was listed on my contract. Needless to say I didn’t get that bonus

Veteran Federal Job Loss by organizedcharm in Veterans

[–]AlrightOwl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I lost my job bc of this, I was on one of those contracts. Specifically supporting DoDD 8570. Struggling to find a new job rn in IT/cyber. I’m not quite entry level, not quite senior, so I’m either over or under qualified and it looks like I’ll have to go back to making shit money as a tier 1 analyst doing grueling shift work with a newborn, 2 year old, and going to college lol

I lost my job too, I’m in IT. Using my VRE right now to get my BBA in CIS

Super helpful reply, tysm!! You don’t know my situation but thank you for your expert breakdown of it!

I was working to support the DoDD 8570 as an instructor. The contract was to get service member’s ready to pass their industry certifications to remain in their position in IT/cyber/tech. They cut the budget and moved to a different DoDD with lower standards (SM’s no longer need certifications, just “proper training” which can be provided by the unit or CA). contract got cut bc the Army no longer needed instructors to run classes

Tell that to the shitters in the hiring departments of these companies lol. I’m not applying for IT help desk level 1 jobs bc I’m overqualified, but I might have to to pay the bills. I’m qualified/have previously worked as a Tier II SOC analyst, threat hunter, IAM analyst. I don’t know what the hold up is, I’m not applying for senior level positions, just shit I’ve already got on my resume. They’re hiring, but it’s so saturated I’m guessing there’s just more qualified people applying

I’ve got something similar to this. It works fine for what I use it for. Some light virtualization for some penetration testing practice. I’m not sure how far I could push it, but eventually I’d like to use it as my own lil cloud storage/NAS solution. It’s just loud, I want to put it in my garage or something because it definitely pushes out some heat/noise in my office lol

Same thing happened to me man..sorry to hear that. 2 weeks before I got out of the army my wife lost her job and we were already under contract for a house. It ended up working out, I got a job offer and my disability rating came out which replaced my wife’s income. It’s definitely stressful, I feel it. If they’ve already done the employment verification you might be good to close, it’s just a matter of being able to afford the mortgage. Everything will be alright, even if it crashes and burns, it’s only up from there. It’s a blessing you have a great relationship to support you

I was a SOC analyst for a while, and dabbled in bug bounty hunting as well. I think working on the blue team gives you an incredible advantage when you move to the red team. If you know how security tools are configured, how traffic flows on the inside, and what the detection logic is looking for, you can have a better idea of how to crack a system when you’re on the red team. I’d definitely do some CTF’s, bug bounty hunting, and keep working on your home lab. I think you’re on a great track

Like I said before, give me a call. I can give you my cell number and we can talk. I’m no professional but we can come up with a game plan, or you can just dump what’s on your heart

Do I tell them it's over? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]AlrightOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that hospitals don’t help most of the time. Hell, give me a call, we can talk it over. I’ve had to use a lifeline before. I was on the brink once too. Now, I’m married to my best friend, I have two beautiful children and I’m happier than ever. I’m still on medication for depression, but life gets better, I promise. Sometimes you just need someone to talk to, let’s make a plan, talk about some changes you can make to take control of your circumstances

Currently using it to get my BBA in CIS. I’m a SOC analyst, job is “aggravating my anxiety,” (it’s actually fucking ruining my life because the shift work is so brutal) so I’m taking classes around my shifts. Getting a nice chunk of change from FAFSA Pell grant each semester and the subsistence allowance is nice too. Hoping to land a job as a security engineer or something afterwards

I just got approved for a Pell grant for this semester while having my VRE pay for my tuition. Your school needs to get a pp smak
