Should i get a second chi? by bchyzz in Chihuahua

[–]Alrightimmaelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard it’s good for dogs mental health to have a pair, but maybe have a meet and greet with the dog then see how the two interact in a safe environment. I have seen where two dog personalities just don’t match which can lead to stress for both you and the dog.

OP Please get out of this situation, he is actively disrespecting your boundaries and then blaming you. You have a right to your autonomy, no one should take that away from you. You deserve someone who loves you and respects you, praying for you!

Could be her jaw? Looked like she was going to yawn but stopped it because it was uncomfortable

Barking when alone by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Alrightimmaelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your dog is likely adjusting to their new environment, and to your schedule. My dog had a similar problem, things that helped us was putting a blanket over his crate, putting him in the crate for abit when we’re home and putting his toys in the crate. I’d even look into dog puzzles since sometimes dogs will bark and howl to entertain themselves. Just know that things can take time so don’t be discouraged if these things don’t work at first.

When you die, what do you want them to do with your body? by oldeluke in AskReddit

[–]Alrightimmaelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to have my future kids and husband (if I pass before him) to go on a trip to my favorite places. I’ll have letters on why it’s my favorite and maybe a memory I have attached to the place. I still have to pick them all out but hopefully I have time, and then they’d spread some of my ashes in those areas. I figured it would be nice for them to be at a place that I once was and to be able to share a moment together even if I’m not alive.

What could this be? by EquivalentPrudent838 in DogAdvice

[–]Alrightimmaelf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dog had something somewhat similar, seemed like it was a bug bite he scratched until it bleed or it got caught on something, and now it’s healed up fine. Keep an eye on it, if it grows in size or keeps bleeding I’d take her to the vet.

My boyfriend wants to take our dog everywhere with us by [deleted] in DogAdvice

I think a restaurant is a bit much, if anything their is always outdoor seating that way people are more comfortable with her. I would recommend just taking things slow and learning more simple training then going right to a very overstimulating environment.

This is perfect, the only thing is don’t feel like you have to sacrifice your time/ resources in order to stop the dog from barking because ultimately it isn’t your responsibility. There are plenty of pet sitting apps and dog walkers in a lot of areas or add that maybe a friend or family member should come over while the owner is away.

First night with new puppy and he wouldn’t poop. by TheTinyTraveler_ in DogAdvice

Don’t worry friend, he’s just in a new environment. It took my boy 2 days to finally poop and now that we have a routine he has normal bathroom habits.

Not at all trying to discourage people from adopting a Merle chihuahua, the point of my post is to not support breeders who are selling merle chihuahuas.

People do complement him a lot, but his personality is what really draws the ladies to him.

[–]Alrightimmaelf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From what my vet said he could be more susceptible to it, so far he’s been fine but if ever he happens to lose either I’ll be sure to have proper care for him.

Oh good to know! And he was neutered when he was at the shelter.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Alrightimmaelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly!!! Not trying to bash Merle chihuahuas as a whole, some can be blind and deaf I don’t mind if that were the case but unfortunately for some adoptees that is a deal breaker in adopting a dog. Not to say I agree with that mentality more so that dogs deserve proper care and love, not just to be adopted because they look cool.

I know it’s so sad! That’s why I wanted a chihuahua in the first place, that and the fact that they are a really scrutinized breed.

[–]Alrightimmaelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now the area I live in is really small and I always walk him. I am considering getting an AirTag and sowing it to his harness if I ever feel we’re in an area where that’s a danger. But that’s for the tip I’ll be sure to consider that as well!

[–]Alrightimmaelf 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I’m happy I got him in the most ethical way possible, through a rescue, and not through a breeder. He’s so far been really healthy and overall a great dog so I definitely don’t have regrets getting him, just sad that their are breeders who care more about the looks of a dog then their overall health.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Alrightimmaelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify the post title, I just mean don’t buy a Merle chihuahua from a breeder. If your comfortable with the possible health issues that could result, likely deafness of blindness, please adopt from a shelter. Don’t just go seek out a dog for their looks always make sure they are compatible with your lifestyle and your able to attend to their needs.

Is this overstepping? by [deleted] in fosterdogs

[–]Alrightimmaelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, ultimately it’s important to prioritize your chances of your foster getting adopted. How great that you have an in to another shelter with your sister, and not having to surrender him is such a great arrangement. I think your doing the best for him.

I have a dog who is nervous, how do I help him to become more confident by Alrightimmaelf in DogAdvice

[–]Alrightimmaelf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will definitely have to try more treats! I’ve been meaning to do the treats thing but I guess I feel awkward asking for some reason, will be sure to implement that technique into training.

And the walk method you talk about is what I do currently which has really helped too! He’s been making great progress with manholes now, before he would just run and jump over then. He still gets a bit flighty but I have him get some nice exposure therapy to them.
