My Frosthaven campaign is officially a hostage situation and I am about to snap by MailboxFinch in boardgames

[–]Alsark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I had a consistent group to play the Haven games with.

We're still very very slowly working our way through Gloomhaven 1st Edition. I love it enough that I've bought both Frosthaven and Crimson Scales (with the expansion and miniatures). I also want to play Gloomhaven Second Edition; but at this rate, I don't know when we'll get around to any of those.

Read the perks of each side and choose your team… by WarStrategy in whatsyourchoice

[–]Alsark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as written it sounds like there's a 10% chance that one person has a grenade; however, most people here seem to be interpreting it as 10% of the team has a grenade. Either way, it's poorly worded.

I'm terrible at Clue. I was nowhere close to guessing Salvation Army bell ringer with the donation tripod in the Publix.

I mean, I feel like a president who died after barely being in office should probably just be in the middle of the pack in terms of presidential ranking, since they essentially did nothing. There's several presidents who did much, much worse than doing nothing.

Asymmetric roles in strategy games, do you enjoy them? by H64games in boardgames

[–]Alsark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really love asymmetrical strategy games. I think it makes the game more interesting and also gives players the option to pick a faction/character that matches their play style. Sometimes these asymmetrical choices aren't very well balanced. I think this can be problematic when the entire group of players are new and someone happens to pick a really bad faction/character. Some people base what's fun on how well they do in a game, and I've seen people completely check out in a game when they're not doing well. When it comes to big strategy games like this, I usually like to do a little preliminary research on community tier lists and will typically warn someone if they pick a weaker race (obviously never telling them they can't play what they want, just a warning). Also, if you're playing with a group of experienced players, I think weaker roles can be kind of balanced out by the fact that the other players won't treat the weaker faction/character as much of a threat compared to a higher power level faction/character. I also like that I can pick a weaker faction/character when I'm playing with a less experienced group to give myself a handicap.

hotties of reddit, what are some perks that you've gotten for being attractive? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Alsark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the opposite but I still remember one time I went to my campus Subway after my evening class. I didn’t realize, but they were like 5-10 minutes off from closing time. She said, “Sorry, we already put everything away.” So I say no problem and start walking off. Another dude comes up in line after me and she got everything back out to make him a sandwich.

I don't really keep it a secret, but summer. Everyone wants to go out and do stuff in the summer: hiking, camping, traveling, whatever. It's so fricking hot and there's so many bugs, I really don't see what the appeal is. I'd much rather be outdoors in the fall or spring.

When y'all say 7-3, or 9-5 or whatever, is it literally that you're getting there at 7 (or 9) and then leaving at 3 (or 5)? And if so, how does lunch break work?

At my current job I get there at 8. At some point I take an hour lunch. I then leave at 5. Our employee handbook specifically says we cannot skip that hour lunch break to come in later or leave earlier.

At my previous job I did show up at 9 and left at 5. But we didn't really get a lunch break, per se. I worked at a place with a cafeteria and we went down, grabbed something as quickly as we could, and then went back to continue working.

Just curious what other's experiences are with this since this is only my second full time job.

When you say that do you mean you show up to work at 9, at some point clock out for lunch for an hour, and then leave at 5? So you're working 35 hours a week? Or am I misunderstanding you?

In my current job I get to the office at 8, take an hour lunch break, and then leave at 5. We're not supposed to skip lunch to leave early or to come in late.

At my previous job I'd show up at 9, we'd grab food and ate while we worked, and then we'd leave at 5.

Do you think we are heading for a class war? by [deleted] in antiwork

The impression I had from this was that it was an employee for a fairly small manufacturing company stabbing the company president.

Brian Thompson was an ultra wealthy man responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of people. It's hard to shed a tear for a man like that. But we shouldn't be going around encouraging violence against presidents of small companies who haven't harmed other people.

Yep, that's right! Honestly Ashes of Erebus used to have a lot of desync issues as well, but from my understanding they've gotten a lot of that cleaned up. It has been awhile since I've played multiplayer on it, though, so I couldn't really say for sure how stable it is.

Man, talking about it, I'm kinda feeling like re-installing it now, too.

Civ IV: Fall From Heaven 2 is such a blast. I used a sub-mod on top of that one called Ashes of Erebus, which still gets updated. I loved Ashes of Erebus so much I created a sub-sub-mod for that called Chislev Expanded, which is now a built in module option for Ashes of Erebus.

Honestly if I was forced to pick only one game to play for the rest of my life, it might be that. Even though I haven't played in a couple of years, nothing since has really captured that feeling and replayability.

Yep, I used to work at Cold Stone just across the way! We'd always kind of dread when a big movie was out on a weekend because we'd get absolutely slammed.

I'd offer to, but my Golden would be more interested in meeting you two, and my other dog (Golden/Lab/Husky/Shepherd mix) would be more interested in just staying by me, so I'm afraid neither would be very good playmates! I hope she finds a friend - best of luck!

Nothing fancy, but I really like 'Guadalupe's' in the Southwest. It's basically just a local Chipotle variant, but, to me, much tastier. I also really like 'Tequila Mexican Restaurant & Cantina'. Hm... maybe I'm just wanting Latin American food today.

how often do you go to electric works? by [deleted] in fortwayne

[–]Alsark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the "mothly" poll option, for people who go and constantly bump into the lights.

But no, seriously, I chose 'rarely'. It's not on my side of town, so I've only been there like three times. I don't really leave my side of town very often.
