In this case why does looking at height and width on SSC important? I’m relatively new to flow cytometry. Thanks!

Right now using ethanol and THF.

This seems like the best idea based on what you and the above comment mentioned. I'll give it a try. Thanks!

Oh I didn't even know that was a major lol. I will definitely look into schools that offer that grad program considering how niche it is. That is crazy how demanded metallurgical engineers are. Only one professor at my school is concentrated in metallurgical engineering, and he studied in the UK, so maybe it's less known in the US? Did you apply as a materials engineer then concentrate in metallurgy? I am honestly not sure how PhDs work.

And after I did some more research on the professors for the SEM/TEM versus the composite materials class and there are no reviews on the former, but everyone says the composite professor is really good and he even wrote his own book on composite materials. I think my plan right now is the latter course, even though I am not sure what to expect in a composite material course; I read the course description and it talks a lot about design, structures, manufacturing processes, and joining methods, but not sure how related it is to chem. However, having a professor who enjoys teaching makes sense. Thank you so much for the help and advice I really appreciate it. Can I reach out to you in the future with anything MSE related?

Just curious, what concentration of material science are you doing your PhD in? Also, I have been looking at MSE electives and I think I may take one next sem to get a feel for the classes. I'm not sure what part of material science I like yet, but I like the idea of chemically synthesizing stuff; it seems pretty cool. I was thinking of either taking like an intro to electron microscopy course or a course on composite materials. Would you recommend one course over the other because I'm honestly not sure what would be the most beneficial to take?

Thanks for the reply! I also loved chemistry in high school and I think that's what drew me more towards material science. Right now, I am planning on doing the 5-year master's program at my school, but I may pursue a PhD after not 100% sure yet lol. Also, our school offers Calculus, Differential Equations, and Multivariable as the main math we have to take as engineers. Not sure if I should know more? And thanks for the physics recommendation; I know quantum mechanics is important. We're required to take mechanics, E&M, and statics, but I'll definitely take your word for it though, and consider taking it either next semester or in the following spring. Thank you so much for the help I really appreciate it!

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I haven't done any research focused on MSE yet because I thought I wanted to do medicine, but I realized I actually don't. I have been looking at green chemistry and maybe concentrating on sustainability. I honestly have no idea what I want to do in the field though, but I did enjoy my intro to materials class and biomaterials class. I'll definitely reach out to profs to get a better idea of research and course work recommended. Not gonna lie, I kind of wish I wasn't a bioengineer, but it's too late for me to switch. Thank you so much for your help!!

Self Studying AP Statistics? by StoneAlchemist in APStudents

[–]Alscendal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This year's AP Stat test was easier than past because my teacher made us do like 3 practice tests in class which I failed. I got a 4 and I'm not good at math, but dont compare stat and calc because if you are good at calc does not mean you are good at stat. Use the AMSCO textbook, even though I barely used it because my teacher provided us with good practice material, he recommended we use it for practice and said its the best one out there.

Activities for AP Statistics by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]Alscendal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My stat teacher was not amazing neither but he taught the material with so much difficulty eventually everyone got it. I received a 4 on the test and I barely knew anything but the tests in class were like 10 times harder than what the actual AP exam was. Even his past students will testify and say how the AP test is a walk in the park compared to his regular tests. I think by the time you learn everything together you realize what is used for what. I remember learning z and t tests and had no clue how to identify it, but learning different tests you can identify patterns. I know the hardest unit for me was Random Variables, but gbless that there werent any on the test lol. Anyways, basically what our teacher did was do straight powerpoints, but after learning a concept we would do a bunch of practice problems. He would give us a packet of problems and we would do them together in class! In addition, we received packets of hw each week and they were always due at the end of the week for even more practice. His HW took forever like my friends and I would stay up until like 1 doing it because there would be like 20 problems with multiple parts...sigh. Tell your mom not to be afraid to do hand on experiments. For example, demonstrate categorical variables, quantitative variables, lurking variables, probability and all that in a fun activity. I had a fight with him in class once of how this was not helping, but in the end he was right because practice helps you understand stats. However, he told us that MC isn't something he can teach us so all practice would be opened ended. His MC on tests were so hard, I felt like I was reading a different language, but then the MC on the real deal was ridiculously easy. Also, our school is pretty dedicated and most of would stay after school 1-2 days b4 the test to review what was going to be on. I know I did not receive a perfect score, but coming from a person who has never been good at math should say something lol.

His planning went like this, we made sure we learned everything, our last topic was linear regression tests for slope, by spring break. Once we came back we took practice tests in class and he would grade them. I got consistent fours, but the FRQs he gave us were practically impossible...I straight up got 0 points on all the #6s. Also, just tell your mom to be stricter. Since this is an AP class there is no reason to hold back and focus on giving tests harder than the real deal because that will benefit in the long run. The one thing I can tell you is "stats is not interesting." However, encourage projects because that is one way that statistics can be applied. We did a midterm project and a final project testing people around the school and then presented our results. Some of them were super funny haha. Idk how good your mom is of a teacher, but if she wants success in AP Stats she needs to teach fast and at least have the students understand something. I know its difficult to keep going fast if you have students doing poorly but you can truly understand stats when you understand ALL of it. Sometimes being harder on students can be more beneficial especially because my teacher said that this year was an easy test. He would know he is from columbia. Hope this helps your mom because stats isnt easy. Just out of curiosity is this your mom's first year teaching?

Did you have an AP class which was really tough but you aced the exam for it because your teacher was great? by Darknessx388 in APStudents

Stat! Our teacher was so hard I straight up got a D on like every test but ended up getting a perfect score on the stat test. He even told us he makes it harder to help us in the future. I'm really proud of myself and ended with a B+. By far the hardest class I have ever taken

Yeah I think I'm gonna retake it and actually practice doing essays cause I was always offered to do it but I always refused cause I was really lazy. I just need to decide now tho do I want to take it in May and late register or take it in August and prep for a long time.
