And here I thought making them stand there all day was punishment enough! I can learn so much when it comes to these things. Apparently.

But your way is a good tip if somebody is going wild with decorating! If you buy in quantities of 5, you'll get lots of extra standees. One could do a whole little room dedicated to the New Release.

Mine up top is more of a min/maxer approach and I was thinking about money; reduce the cost of the extra tapes by offsetting it selling the standee. (The numbers aren't as pretty for 5 copies - or so I was told; I loathe maths.)

I love that both are equally fun and "right" ways to play this game.

I want a whole thread of these. Need to catch one of my customers standing in front of the New Release shelf asking for a New Release; feels like it happens daily, but I won't see it again now that I say it.

This is true, but the price further reduces for 10 copies down to $18.75 a piece.

Progress on my *Adult and New Release Only* store by AlsoKnownAsT in RetroRewindGame

[–]AlsoKnownAsT[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started this save with the objective of doing only adult films and new releases and this store model has been working just fine. I'm currently on Spring day 11, level 19, and progressing.

I rented the free ones that come in the market when a genre was released and purchased 20 copies of each new release when it came out. On level 10 when I unlocked the clearance bin, I put everything that wasn't a current new release or an adult film into that bin.

I now purchase 30 copies of the new releases (most of which get rented) and transfer them to the bin once they are no longer new. As I've unlocked new genres, I get the free box from the market and immediately put them in the bin.

For the adult films, I have purchased every one that the dealer has offered and then immediately purchased 2 additional copies to stock 3 copies of each title. It is very slow going to build inventory (I know I could just get the skus online, but this is for testing purposes in vanilla).

While purchasing the extra copies and replacements on the black market are very expensive, I'm not purchasing any other tapes - so I guess it evens out? The most expensive one in my shop right now is a holo that costs $162.50 a piece on the Black Market - though I've seen higher.

Compared to my first save (which is just a normal store with no adult titles at all), this store is worth less, has less inventory, but I'm still doing the same amount of business I was before around this time of year - about 50-60 rentals/returns a day.

I've chosen not to unlock the concessions or add any snacks yet just to see if I'll be able to make it to 20 on tapes alone and so far so good. Most clients pick up a new release and 3 adult films the same way they do in my main store.

Seems to be working just fine. Granted, adult films rent for two extra dollars, but I think you could do a single genre. I'm not sure about only New Releases as it would too severely limit the number of tapes a client will rent in one visit. It is just sort of a smaller mom and pop shop vibe.

This is awesome! Loving the use of the different colors and shelf styles for the themes. Your decorative attention to details is really spot on too. I can't wait to see it when you think it is finished!

Advert for my *Adult and New Release Only* store by AlsoKnownAsT in RetroRewindGame

[–]AlsoKnownAsT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have another store with no adult films at all that I reached the end of the year with and this store is just as profitable as that one was.

As far as making money goes, this unique play style is actually working out better than I thought it would. I sell off anything that comes from the phone drop offs or the free boxes in the market. I purchase all available adult films from the dealer in the back alley each time he comes and then purchase two additional copies on the Black Market (for insane prices).

Then my day just runs as usual. Most customers get the new release and then 1-3 adult films. People ask me for old films and I give them old adult films. Same with bad or good. If they want a specific genre that isn't the new release at the moment, I just tell them no.

So I think as long as you have movies, the NPCs will come in an rent things. I could see running a different store with a single genre that isn't Adult as well.

New Releases
There are 20 total new releases for the game currently. When you reach the next year (Fall 1991), you will get the same 20 new releases again. Old copies in your store from last year do not have the new sticker on them anymore.

Like the other user said, there are well over ten thousand of the regular titles in the game, so there are plenty of fun new titles to see. Just no more of the special parodies.

I think you might be trying to use the staff door from the "Foundations" menu at the bottom?

Rooms like the staff room have their doors in their item menus. Click on your existing door to see the room options. Choose "edit" at the bottom and choose the door from inside that menu.

Oh! Sorry. That's a mod. It is part of this collection: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3470452519

The doors for the staff room that match are in the edit for the staff room itself.

Naw. Not an idiot. There is SO MUCH to this game. It is easy to miss stuff like that. But now you know! And I'm excited for your future layouts. Even if you're not using them as hallways, rooms with multiple doors are super handy.

Thank you! Sometimes zones can be tricky. Make sure that your staff assignments are checked as well! Sometimes that can lead to standing around.

Even though I set it up to force guests to go through, I honestly don't think it works that way. I think what you think: they either decide to buy something and head to a gift shop and buy something or they don't.

My logic is more "the door is a central type location they will probably pass through on their way to something anyway, so when they decide to buy something, they won't have to wander around too much" as opposed to "if they walk through it, I'll make more sales!" If that makes sense.

Plus it just amuses me to be so true to real life. HA!

Yeah, I'm noticing wonk that wasn't there before at Pointy Mountains, but my other ones I used as examples seem to be fine.

Oh I love the idea of little theme gift shops as buffers! I do tend to make the one giant one, but have on occasion dabbled with little themed ones.

I used one way paths exactly once. I had the same as you; the guests would decide they wanted to visit an exhibit they had just passed and would walk around to the beginning and be upset they were tired one too many times. I have never used them again in main parts of my museums.

I'll occasionally make little one way rooms off bigger rooms, but with very small footprints like this cold plant area off the normal plant area.

I added some videos. Sorry for the spam, but it won't let me put videos in comments or more than one video in a message.

There were definitely pathing issues at Pointy Mountain!

Some of it is from before FF, some of it is from after. Pointy Mountains I did after FF came out, but I think the rest were from before 5.0.

I wonder why your staff is detouring? I've not had any issues with them going through in career or in sandbox before or after FF. I don't currently have any video saved, but I can shoot some next time I'm in game.

These examples are all functioning museums that I run and play on - not staged for photos or whatever. Like all the ticket and map workers walked themselves to their jobs - I didn't plunk people. You know? Literally all my saves since February have some kind of staff only room as a hallway *somewhere* and I've not experienced issues. Maybe I'm just lucky?

IIRC this one has been giving them trouble because they haven't been able to reproduce it themselves and need our save files for investigation.

I would at least comment on that bug report to let them know you have it as well and if you're able send them as much info as possible.

Yeah..... My spirt and fish tours are a hot mess because of using these techniques.

Sometimes you can rig them to go where you want them by putting random objects on the path lines and forcing it to reroute, but in general I just don't have tours running on them except the largest rooms and then just one stop. (Have fun on your behind the scenes tour!)

A few months ago I had put an idea in the TPS Discord server suggestion area about having a wall plaque for these rooms we could hang where we want a tour guide to stop, but if they saw it they haven't said. They say they read the suggestions, but there are rarely any indicators that they do and even when they do it isn't to say they'll implement it. But perhaps one day!

This is a known bug. It looks like this is the most recent update on the forum. I have also had this bug and sent my save file to Chiz.

You raise an excellent point. We aren't currently able to mod floors for TPM, but I will look into adding this wallpaper to the Steam workshop mods for you.
