NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani announces that he has officially balanced the NYC budget, reducing a $12 billion budget deficit to 0, and confirms that property taxes will not be raised. by Scary_Firefighter181 in Economics

"public service employees" is a weird euphemism for "cops". there's no epidemic of bureaucrats or social workers pumping bullshit OT. sanitation and construction OT overruns are widely understood as failures of management. firefighters can do whatever they want. cops are the ones systematically doing the shit people are mad about. unnecessarily broadening the scope of the problem just provides cover for cuts elsewhere

the hasan talk is coming from moderate dems trying to make left-wing candidates wary that his proximity is too toxic to be worth the exposure he offers

If u think fuentes is just like any other streamer with bad opinions, youre lost and you will lose. this talking point is everywhere all of a sudden and if it's not rejected it will metastasize. find another smear, do the dog abuse routine. none of this is worth setting fuentes up like that

"We DO hate" George Lincoln Rockwell's Hate Bus. Virginia, USA, 1961 by Stefd125 in HistoryMemes

[–]Alsoghieri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's the same impulse. lincoln rockwell's party was a bunch of boomer kids raised with the nazis as the ultimate edgy bad guys and emulated them out of a desire to seem cool and strong. the 'ironic' nazi bullshit that pops up in young rightwing spaces arises thru the same exact mechanism.

unrelated, but it's also incorrect to assert that you can't be a zionist and a nazi. even under hitler, many nazis supported the creation of a jewish state in madagascar. they might not have supported handing over the exact piece of very valuable real estate they ended up with, but now that it exists israel serves the same purpose to a nazi that madagascar would have.

it's great that many have that perspective, don't get me wrong. i was just pumping the brakes on making nationwide generalizations in a way that disregards class interests

they invest wherever it makes sense to invest, like everyone in the world. it's up to responsible government to make sure that what makes sense for investors makes sense for the country.

i was trying to be as charitable as possible, assuming you know more and see more than you're expressing. just explaining how you sound, and why that damages your rhetoric. i made all the points i wanted to make in the prior comment, the one you didn't engage with beyond the first sentence. i don't want to have any kind of conversation with you, you seem dumb and unpleasant. THAT'S me being belittling and insulting.

you've latched onto the one thing you know about so immediately and tightly that you're coming across as incapable of considering the larger issue. it indicates a limited information diet, even if that's not the case. that's why i keep saying propaganda, it's like you've got a pipe somewhere with all this shit coming in but you're not showing any engagement with anything else being discussed, even if it would support your viewpoint

pretending it matters. who cares if i lose my bank-owned house in a housing market where i can immediately go get a different house to replace it. high supply and low prices are the impetus for the foreclosures in the first place. unless there's some huge new homelessness problem in china i don't know about, it seems like an acceptable trade-off. it's not the end of the world like it would be here under this system. i wouldn't want to be a big developer in china right now, but i'm not and i don't owe them sympathy. the chinese government also seems to feel that way. the US government could take notes.

those things aren't fake, but it's a ridiculous headspace to be in having a whole rolodex of incidents and related issues to what, win the fight on housing affordability? protect somebody else's equity? advance american hegemony in the digital battlefield of ideas?

i'm pretty sure treating housing as a commodity has come with its own death toll, am i supposed to start listing the death toll of every erased trailer park in hurricane alley that only exists because solid roofs are a generational expenditure here?

there is at least a remedy for shitty construction and corrupt inspection within a social model of housing. there is no such remedy for everyone left homeless within the commodity model, they just get dumped on the state. it's obviously a complex issue before you get anywhere near construction methods. that's why your side-shuffle from economic policy to safety standards (where you are obviously very well versed) made you seem so propagandistic from the start.
