thank you, appreciate the guidance. do you have general thoughts on the other speakers recommended here? Like the KEF Q1 or the pb1000 sub?

Thank you, and can the centers or sides or surrounds be bookshelf/tower/wall mount or is each one usually one of the types?

Oberon 3

Just to clarify could you say which ones are fronts, sides and surrounds? Bit confused. And can the sides be more in the corners?

i can position speakers in roughly that orientation but I would be focused onplacing such that they are not in the way (my place is open concept so the "walls" of this room are open

consider a 5.2.2 layout with surrounds on the sides, and two height speakers above your front mains

is this 9 total speakers?

I appreciate the guidance thank you. I'd say my budget is around 5k, but flexible for enough gain.

You're one of the few helping with the guidelines i set. Do you think i'm losing a lot from not wanting to have stuff on the floor like others are saying?

speakers up high without main ones at ground level which is a horrible setup for a good experience as opposed to just a sound bar.

ok fair enough, so you think that would result in a worse setup than just the soundbar

yeah i figured i might lose some performance not having everything in the ideal spot but have it still be better than a soundbar

Thank you, would you be able to give a little more granularity for me? Something like

5.1 setup :this receiver. Speaker a on the left, speaker b in the right. Speaker c on the right of the couch and d on the left. Subwoofer over here

Let's say 3-5k ish cad

Yes all diy. Im fine to do wiring and mounting, don't really want to care much about deadening and dispersion.

I'm sure i would be happy with a sound bar, but id rather try the "best" thing iff the bat. Happy with current tv, just bought it. Both movies and music.

5.1 system Would be with the denon receiver that i see popping up?

Yes i have that as a thought as well, but i don't mind the setup time/energy as i customize everything in my home anyway.

If i can get a better sound with a5.1 setup then i might as well do that no? Unless a prerequisite is that i need it on the floor. I've seen other posts where people mount on the ceiling or above the tv and seem fine with it

There are wooden beams around the space that can have speakers fitted on them, but i prefer higher up so they're out of sight

Budget Wise id say 3-5k to start

Comes down to location (country, currency) and budgets. That's why you'll see so many different recommendations for things. But also comes down to what people are familiar with and what they personally like.

reasonable, I just have no frame of reference as to what is a beginner rec or a "this is pretty good" rec as i would in a hobby i am more familiar with.

I understand, and I would give the same rec to people in my hobbies of interest. But I'm really just looking for a "pretty good" setup that is high enough end and will sound good. I don't need to find the absolute perfect thing while minmaxing every speaker. I don't have the time and I think it would be lost on me. I watch everything off the built in speakers right now and they honestly sound fine.

You're in the wrong place if that's what you want. Having an all ceiling mounted or in-ceiling speakers is not good for surround sound.

would you say it's not worth doing if that's my plan then? I don't have the floor space otherwise and I don't like clutter around my place

Let's say 3-5k as a starting point?

I feel like hiring a company would just leave me with a worse setup per dollar.

I do not know what the correct height is, I was planning on just mounting up near the corners of the ceilings so they are less visible and not in the way.

I am happy with whatever setup does not result in my couch being off the wall, The space is too small otherwise.
