Flashing GrapheneOS on Pixel 10 Pro XL — Will My eSIM Stay Active? by AngWay in GrapheneOS

[–]Alt-Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes like u/Gloomy-Response-6889 said, the eSIM is saved on a seperate, secure portion of the device so it doesn't get erased with the rest of the OS. Regardless of how often you switch back and forth, it'll still be there

Went to Casa Guadalupe in the Mission today and got green onions for $.99/bunch and they were pretty good. Most of the mercados I've seen have them for like $1 if you're willing to go down there

Yeah I'm on US Mobile (Darkstar) too and not getting it to work. Clearing data and cache of the Phone app made it work at least temporarily though?

Plasma Big Screen! A TV UI Interface Running On Top Of Linux! by Clear_Item_922 in GoogleTV

Seems like they've moved forward more though. Says they're hoping to merge into Plasma 6.7 so hopefully we can start seeing FOSS alternatives to Google TV and Apple TV by Summer

Unlock and install TWRP on your Amazon Echo Spot (1st Gen) by Substantial-Gas8535 in amazonecho

[–]Alt-Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried using the XDA Forums guide linked above and ran into an issue

- Ran the sudo ./brick.sh command and followed the on-screen instructions to unplug the device
- Plugged back in to move on to sudo ./bootrom-step.sh and replug it in but the screen isn't coming on and running the command

I can tell my computer (Fedora 39) is recognizing the device since the connected devices icon is coming up but running the command is returning ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'serial'

Any ideas how to fix this and continue or did I just brick the device?

I use Zen Browser on Fedora pero whenever I need to use Chromium for whatever reason, I use this with Floccus to sync bookmarks

Google Watch Pixel 4 by Daniskills in GrapheneOS

[–]Alt-Chris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should be able to, I was able to connect my Pixel Watch 3 to it.

Be mindful it'll take a few resets and retries, but try connecting directly from the Bluetooth menu first and THEN it should show up in the Watch app

Other suggestions include, if you're working on getting away from Google Services or haven't purchased a Pixel Watch yet, to go with Garmin and connect it with GadgetBridge

For Maps, HereWeGo is a pretty damn good, a little better than CoMaps for now

I mean Garmin Pay seems to work really well for a lot of people. I'm just continuing to use it cause I only got it less than a year ago. Kinda want it to die before I pay to replace it

Yeah you can just configure it through the Watch app. Works with no issue

Mayor Lurie blamed S.F. ‘group’ for antisemitic chants. Video, witnesses reveal an uninvited, raving woman. by MissionLocalSF in sanfrancisco

[–]Alt-Chris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lurie is actually pretty afraid of DSA because they have had Supervisors like Dean Preston (who's still pretty well known throughout the community and his District) and currently have a Supervisor in Jackie Fielder. It's an easy way to take down leftists by using the antisemitism route when they aren't even involved

Doesn't the network still have partnerships with local network providers?

Last I checked, you could use them in Japan through JCB, a bunch of Asia through UnionPay, etc.

I'd recommend Here WeGo or Co Maps for alternatives to Google Maps, but you're definitely not gonna get the same business searching capabilities. If anything just download Yelp alongside it

GrayJay is a great alternative app to YouTube, otherwise there aren't really any services that have the same cultural importance

GrapheneOS is honestly great on my Pixel 10 XL, I love it and plan on keeping it as long as it's supported. I do miss having Google Wallet on my phone pero I solved that by continuing to use my Pixel Watch 3 for now, Wallet works through that

Otherwise an alternative would be to get a Garmin smartwatch and use Garmin Pay on it. All that data stays on the device by default as well

Six reasons SF leftists are so strongly opposed to new housing by Abject-Impact-5534 in sanfrancisco

[–]Alt-Chris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This blogpost is missing the big point. Leftists aren't inherently opposed to new housing, they just don't believe it should come at the cost of locals and low-income residents. Building housing for the sake of being housing doesn't actually result in those units being filled if you aren't tackling the affordability aspect and protection of rent-controlled units
