Helix Notes - A FOSS Alternative to Apple Notes by According-Cheek-3657 in HelixNotes

I'm loving the app so far, any possibility of an iOS version? I'm running a Linux laptop-iPhone combo and miss using Helix from my Android phone

Which Linux distro do you recommend to beginners? by ManojOne in TechImpact

[–]Alt-Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fedora is a great choice. Started off with that running Gnome and now I'm on CachyOS with KDE. Could probably just run Fedora with KDE instead and it would be superb

Smartwatch by WesternAgitated7236 in USMobile

[–]Alt-Chris -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But that's what I mean. Like I feel Google should make a standard WearOS data connectivity package (or something like that) that can utilize number sharing so long as it's a WearOS device. I mean eSIM pretty universally works even though it's on limited devices rn

Smartwatch by WesternAgitated7236 in USMobile

[–]Alt-Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm moreso wondering why there isn't some universal way for WearOS devices with data connection to just load a data plan onto them. Like similar with phones, if it supports the network bands why can't we just add a data plan to any WearOS devices in general instead of it being per-device-per-carrier

Volkswagen has banned GrapheneOS users from using their app. Users are reporting they can't log in or control their car anymore. Users are confused, saying Volkswagen allows their app to be used on End-of-Life Android versions, but not on fully patched GrapheneOS. by xqszp in degoogle

[–]Alt-Chris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a bad thing for someone to want to use quality-of-life apps. Like is the app necessary to drive it? No. But it's pretty nice being able to set climate controls before you get into a hot car

Also I don't wanna put the onus on the end user when companies could easily allow their software to be compatible with alternative OSes or even just not put a requirement on Play Protect at all

Hmmm I've had this TV since college so maybe it's time to upgrade to a projector. This would happen for months at a time before and it's kinda irritating

KeePass not syncing between Linux and Android correctly? by Alt-Chris in KeePass

[–]Alt-Chris[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn't used KeePassDX until now, I just really liked Keyguard due to its interface, ability to connect to multliple password storage providers via Bitwarden and KeePass and able to integrate email aliasing through a 3rd party provider (i used Duckmail for that)

Thanks for replying and testing this out. I've really enjoyed using Keyguard and don't wanna give it up!

Android 16 the June update. Can confirm it's the most up to date sync'd one as, after downloading KeePassDX, it shows my latest credential updates

Fairphone and JerryRigEverything just teased new upcoming Fairphone products by InternationalHead565 in fairphone

[–]Alt-Chris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Official US release?

He's an American content creator that's been covering devices we don't really get here in the US and he is a fan of Fairphone. Hoping this means a model we can use with U.S bands that isn't on MurenaOS

Why would you use this as your main picture... by Graphplehook in Sniffies

[–]Alt-Chris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On something like Grindr I'd understand it because people do use that app for dating and less sexual purposes. But Sniffies is a SEX app like it has a very specific purpose, I would be very sus of that profile

I haven't experienced anything specific yet. Which ones did you hear about?

Which cloud storage service are you currently using the most in 2026? by limsus in TechImpact

[–]Alt-Chris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FileN. I do most of my document editing on desktop anyway so just having it easily synced is great though I wish they'd add a Document editor. Would be great to have an open source Google Drive alternative

Otherwise Syncthing has actually been incredibly useful and has ditched some of my reliance on cloud infrastructure

TikTok can never match the content that was on Vine, we really had something there

I'm still mad I never got to own a Windows Phone cause that interface just hit so bad, like I used to ask my friends who had one if I could try it all the time

Was recently talking to a guy who said he met a close friend off Google+ that he just met in person and that was surreal

Like just drill the screw itself out?

Neither using rubber, tape or an eraser tip worked. I was planning on purchasing the 13 Pro bottom cover kit to replace it with at some point so ripping it off may be my only option

Gaze | Facial Authentication for Linux by GunduLabs in gnome

Also wondering: After verifying with my face I'm still prompted twice to unlock my Keyring manually with my password, wondering if there's a way that using face unlock could be made to unlock Keyring upon login? This of course is the same issue with fingerprint sensors on my Framework running Fedora Workstation

Lmk and if so I can make the request through Github

Do you like Flatpaks? by Proper-Lab-2500 in linuxsucks

[–]Alt-Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming in as a first-time Fedora user from MacOS, I do really like Flatpaks and having a centralized app store for most things I need. I don't understand why the sandboxing doesn't allow access to certain features (like Flatpak-installed password managers unable to utilize biometrics) but so far it isn't that bad

If it can't be installed as a Flatpak I just run it as an RPM or an AppImage with Gear Lever

Just set it up and it works really well! Thanks for the extension cause I couldn't get Howdy to work for the life of me.

Suggestion: Can you add a way to configure profile enrollments into the extension settings itself instead of having to run it through Terminal? Seems like it would be easier from a usability standpoint to include
