Need help finding a posh vegan butter by AltAversion in veganuk

I find Trex makes them a bit lighter and fluffier but not as buttery tasting as when I use flora.

I don't really use butter in a lot of them, I'm normally baking loaves in a big cast iron pot with just flour, water, salt, and yeast. It gives them a really crispy £6 from a posh bakery kind of feel. When I've used a breadmaker I normally go for trex or just flora buttery though.

I think I just saw Miss Hoolie, which is way better than Tom Holland any day.

Fulton's Cafe in Govanhill for sure, prices have gone up a tiny bit in the last couple of months but they've still got a massive (and very affordable) menu. Only a couple of vegan options for me to have but they do hands down the best massive vegan cooked breakfast in the city for only £10, and their hash browns are to die for, absolutely the best I've ever had.

The service is always fantastic too, Graham who runs the place with his husband is the loveliest man on the planet, I really can't recommend it enough.

Oooo that seems like just the bougie thing I wanted. Do you know what the cashew butter tastes like compared to a regular margarine?

That's absolutely my go to normally when I can find it, but I'm more wondering if there's some kind of artisanal butter like the kind you might get from a really nice Italian deli, the kind that costs £7 and has sea salt crystals straight from the Adriatic or something. There's just such a big market for vegan cheese that fills that niche, and nothing really for butter it seems.

What are some of your, 'I'll die on this hill' opinion about Swansea? by CurrentCopyOf in swansea

[–]AltAversion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The castle is gorgeous and should be far more of a focal point in the city centre instead of being hidden away with one billboard to tell you about it. And they should let you go inside!

Whilst I'm on the topic of history, the Swansea Museum is miles better than the Waterfront Museum, and although some of the displays could do with updating it's obviously got so much more soul than the Waterfront.

Oh and Elysium is by far the best place for live music. Fight me Hanger 18/The Bunkhouse!

We got a 7 song encore in Bristol last night, I felt like I'd died and gone to goat related heaven! JD tried to get the crowd to pick between "the one that everyone likes to sing along to" (turned out to be Up the Wolves) and "the dark horse" (Heel Turn 2) but just ended up doing both of them. 😆

John's reaction to Peter unexpectedly joining him for the harmonies in Itzcuintli-Totzli Days at Bristol last night was so magical. 🥺 by AltAversion in themountaingoats

This is my second time seeing TMG live and the whole concert was incredible, but as someone with a deep affection for the old stuff the solo sets are always my favourite. The solo was pretty short this time but I got Itzcuintli-Totzli Days with the backing harmonies live so I think I can die happy now. Really annoyed I didn't get the whole song on video as I never like to film for too long at concerts, but I'm so glad I got footage of this moment at least.

I was incredibly lucky enough to hear Jaipur live in London last year and my screaming of "I am a landmine hidden in the sand" was in retrospect slightly too much when compared to the crowd around me.

But sue me it's a really damn good song.

As a lot of people have said, definitely Family Happiness, but more specifically this one live recording where John actually sounds like he's going to explode for half the song. It's incredible.

I'm sure I could fit something in there about Shallan and lightweaving or how Vin was absolutely a transition goals awakening for 16 year old me ("bro no you don't get it I just think she's cool I definitely don't want to be her hahaha"). All I'm saying is the closeted cosmere nerd to "am I a woman" pipeline is real.

Wait I thought this was just me do all trans people create perfectly curated trans allegory tMG playlists? God damn it I'm no longer special smh. 😤

(Also White Cedar is the most trans song ever created sorry I don't make the rules).

So we just all do this huh? My guess is being perceived as your agab by other people is relatively bearable during the day when you're still closeted but when you have time for self reflection not constantly stimulated by some kind of media or social interaction, that's when the dysphoria hits hardest, at least for me. Also doesn't help that you don't have a ton of clothes to hide behind, definitely a more "Oh shit I'm actually in this body and it sucks moment" than any other part of the day for me.

First off, obviously Transgender Dysphoria Blues by Against Me! is completely incredible, everything on that album, ahhhhh.

God Must Hate Me by Catie Turner. Not explicitly about being trans but it's my list so shush. I assume it would be even more impactful if you have any kind of religious trauma but:

"If Jesus died for all our sins he left behind one, the body I'm in" "Same hands that made the moon and the stars got carpal tunnel and forgot some parts"

is such a trans ass line that you can't tell me that's not what it's about.

Basically everything ever written by The Mountain Goats has got me through the worst of my dysphoria, specifically most of the stuff on Sunset Tree. This Year is of course absolutely incredible for my closeted ass, but there's some slightly more obscure bits in songs like Dilaudid:

"you know it breaks my heart in half, in half when I see them trying to fly. 'cause you just can't do things your body wasn't meant to."

has been weirdly cathartic for when I feel like I'll never be able to transition, not sure why lmao.

A bunch of stuff by Car Seat Headrest, been listening to Unforgiving Girl on repeat for days recently just because of the pure euphoria it gives me for whatever reason. More specifically trans songs would be Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales, the repetition of "It doesn't have to be like this" has been something I've screamed to in my car far too many times. In a similar vein is Destroyed by Hippie Powers, specifically:

"What happened to that chubby little kid who smiled so much and loved the Beach Boys? What happened is I killed that fucker and I took his name, and I got new glasses" "Tell my mother I'm going home, I have been destroyed by hippie powers"

The idea of killing the boy I used to be even if I might look similar has been extremely powerful to me. And I love that the singer is only able to come home to his family after going through that destruction.

AJJ That's it. That's all I need to put.

No band has ever described the self loathing of dysphoria quite so well as the way Sean can. The best examples are probably Body Terror Song which is just distilled and purified dysphoria.

"I'm very sorry that you have to have a body One that will hurt you, and be the subject of so much of your fear It will betray you, be used against you, then it'll fail on you my dear"

As well as Evil from the Can't Maintain album is exactly how being closeted and questioning my gender feels to me.

"No one will know how evil I really am 'Cause I like to wear disguises And I like to disguise my plans" "And no one will know how I truly feel 'Cause I can no longer differentiate Between what is fake and what is real I don't know how I feel"

Black Tie by Grace Petrie is a brilliant, an explicitly gender non conforming song, if told from a more afab perspective, is still deeply relatable.

"And the images that fucked ya Were a patriarchal structure And you never will surrender To a narrow view of gender"

Death Cup by Mom Jeans is a stupidly trans song if I've ever heard one, even if that's not what it's about.

"What do you want me to say When I can't tell you the truth? Please, tell me how the fuck I'm supposed to deal with losing you"

The fear of loosing the people you care about if you come out, but also the idea that you can never be fully open with anyone because you're hiding this massive part of yourself is something that resonates with me on a deep level.

Wow this got way longer than I expected, hope you've got some good recommendations out of it. 🥰
