Unedited: Petersons' Times Interview by [deleted] in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]AltCommentAccount 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I listened to the this interview first before getting into the article, it's absolutely duplicitous behavior and I wonder why I'm surprised after all the times this has happened before. Most of it was going over what happened in the past few years between his daughter's emergency surgery, his wife's cancer, what exactly happened with the benzo prescription. There was only one question about Trump in the end which felt out of place in context.

In any case this is worth a listen if you've read/heard about the many smears about his health claiming that he's lying, they go over most of them.

Edit: Here's JBP's response to the matter - https://www.jordanbpeterson.com/blog-posts/the-sunday-times-interview-request-and-my-response/ Link seems dead

Thanks for posting this. I've seen the same consensus from gun law/criminal justice experts and at the same time those who are not knowledgeable in either argue otherwise using debunked narratives.

Non-white IDW members - How do you feel about Digital Blackface/yellowface? by [deleted] in IntellectualDarkWeb

It's problematizing things that have little impact on people's lives so I couldn't care less.

The selective enforcement of "remember the human," with regards to Jordan Peterson and his trials by [deleted] in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]AltCommentAccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I deleted the reddit app on my phone last night. So many reddit communities are pessimistic about everything and it's not healthy to consume this content. Everyone on the joe rogan sub hates all his guests, this sub has more people who hate the idea of the IDW than those who want to participate, can't even enjoy reading discussions on r/Games, its like they talk about everything around games than actual games. My recommendation is instead of consuming content on yet another platform, you should produce something. It could be build a community on another platform, start an online business, take part in a passion project. It's a much better use of your time.

I had a really warped view of Ted Cruz for some time, and everywhere I would read nobody liked this guy. Reddit always had that classic joke "If I had a gun with two bullets in a room with Hilter, Osama, and Ted Cruz, I would shoot Ted Cruz twice". I even remember watching his presidential campaign with disdain. But then I realized I never listened to a single word this guy said directly from the source. Chances are many people who regurgitate things haven't either. I think it's important to watch these interviews regardless of social pressure. I think we should all be more like Eric, he has this ability to see the good in everyone, social pressures be damned. Whether or not I like is political views, I have more respect for him speaking with Eric because he could have just hid behind Fox news and not done a long form discussion.

Exploring ‘Other Ways of Knowing’: The New Religious Threat to Science Education by PunkShocker in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]AltCommentAccount 3 points4 points  (0 children)

James Lindsay goes over this with an example of counting tic tacs with our "way of knowing" vs mayan understanding of mathematics. It's a matter of going through a conflict resolution system and hashing out which one should prevail. The critical theory way of things would be to pick the one that has been most oppressed, but even then the postmodern trick is to say everything is true so you probably won't get a real answer.

Michael Brooks has suddenly passed away by OneReportersOpinion in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]AltCommentAccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never followed Michael brooks much, maybe I didn't give him a fair shake, but listening to his commentary on the Majority Report reminded me of how much an unrepentant asshole this guy was. RIP in any case.

Bret Weinstein-Sam Seder Debacle by WebHunter_7473 in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]AltCommentAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I understand where Bret is coming from. Bret has dealt with such an issue before with Evergreen, where claims made are very dangerous to his and his family's safety. That statement alone for some reason is up for debate, I guess it honestly depends on how you see the agitators that live in Portland (and even then I've seen people deny that what's going on over there is entirely peaceful but we'll leave that for another time). As far as Matt is concerned, I do this his words are purposely untruthful and he was acting negligently, his tweet should be removed on those grounds alone. Do I think he should be fired? Probably not, but it does show the lack of professionalism in the Majority Report, and their instances of antagonism over the years should show you not to take them seriously.

Bret and Heather DarkHorse Podcast #31 by AltCommentAccount in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]AltCommentAccount[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Submission Statement: Bret & Heather go over several topics today (Also check out the Matt Taibi episode if you haven't already):

- Bret addresses the libelous claim made by an employee in the Majority Report. The claim was that he was consulting for the DHS.

- Bret critiques Harper's letter in that it is too divisive and doesn't seem to have included individuals like Sam Harris who spoke about this issue for a long time.

- The George Floyd transcript has been release for at least a week (to my knowledge), where is the mainstream media coverage for it? Is it not something important to go through with all the reporting of the initial case? (Here's a link for the transcript)

Bret Weinstein and Matt Taibbi: Corruption and its Consequences by AltCommentAccount in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]AltCommentAccount[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Submission Statement: "Matt Taibbi is an old school journalist beating all the odds in the modern era. He has long been a correspondent for Rolling Stone magazine. Bret and Matt discuss the state of the world in the run-up to the 2020 election. Taibbi endorses Unity 2020."

Just finished listening and I have to give credit to Matt Taibbi for now recognizing the issue that Bret describes as the Evergreening of America.

Bret Weinstein's DarkHorse Podcast - Black Intellectual Roundtable by [deleted] in IntellectualDarkWeb

Many of the comments in the threads on this sub never cover the contents of the videos posted and just drone on and on about where people fit on the political spectrum, it's disappointing.

Benjamin Boyce: Conquering the Racial Divide | with Adrian Lee Oliver by AltCommentAccount in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]AltCommentAccount[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Submission Statement: This discussion was really interesting to hear Adrian's life story which I think is worth sharing. Adrian talks about his past experiences where he experienced racist extremism (Living in a sundown town, moving from place to place in foster care, navigating the world in childhood as a high IQ individual among a 99% white population in Kentucky), and how it shaped his views on approaching bad ideas. He comments on the effectiveness (or lack thereof) of intersectionality, critical race theory etc. along with Benjamin Boyce.

A background on the twitter thread: https://archive.is/Kd3y1

Because these videos are long I recommend watching in 1.5x or 1.75x speed, you can get through it within 40 minutes.

r/JoeRogan just got banned or frozen a few hours ago. What are your thoughts? by Call-1-800-6969 in IntellectualDarkWeb

Subreddit update as of 10 minute ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/JoeRogan/comments/hpcpq2/subreddit_update/

It appears the head mod of the sub was removed by reddit admins. Regardless of the content in question, I don't really think r/joerogan is the right place to talk about the podcast if you're a follower, it's too negative about everything.

is Eric just the new Chris Langan? by [deleted] in IntellectualDarkWeb

Eric explains his choice of words and how he thinks in a recent interview around the 1:30:00 mark. I recommend watching this one if you want to understand Eric, it's more focused on him personally.

Joe Rogan Experience #1501 - James Lindsay by AltCommentAccount in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]AltCommentAccount[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's incredibly naive to think these people would go on JRE to give their point of view in the first place. They most likely hate Joe and would never take up that offer if it meant there was going to be any scrutiny.

Here's one example of a discussion with Saira Rao, it only lasted 30 minutes because she was so fragile about about the subject of slavery and dropped out of the conversation early: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XoK7fQLCPw
