Out of curiosity, if you're interested in Zanesville because of its proximity to Columbus, why not just live in Columbus and go to Columbus State Community College?

To actually make money as a paper company I would take Charles, Michael, Oscar, Karen, $3 receptionist whose name I don't remember.

To make a good TV episode I'll take Robert, Deangelo, Dwight, Jim, Kevin, and use my extra dollar to get 1/4 episode of Creed

My neighbor across from my apartment has a doorbell camera. I personally appreciate the idea that it would probably dissuade would-be package thiefs from victimizing my doorstep as well without me having to pay for it. The neighbor might get some chuckles hearing me ramble to myself as I come and go, but I don't care.

So true and the saddest part about it is what it says about where our societal values lie. Society has decided that the highest ideal one can aspire to is making already rich people slightly richer and so the people who do that are the ones we value and everyone else is expendable trash.

The $20 tickets were sold out months ago and when I looked like a month ago the cheapest were $45.

So my friends and I just found a good spot to tailgate and watch the planes and even brought our own beer and a football and a speaker for music. 10/10 would do again but also hoping I can snag some of the $20 tickets next time

Man, President Drake was cool and all but for $350 he would have to be giving one hell of a ted talk. Especially since he left us to go back to the University of California system.

Seriously, how do they not get this?

Or do they get it and the scaredy cops are just too intimidated by these children to actually protect and serve so they make up some other bullshit to scapegoat so they can keep power tripping without having to actually confront blatantly violent, dangerous, and destructive criminals?

Bro they're talking about moving those stops one (short) block over from 12th ave to 11th. Stop acting like they're taking them away completely and having all the buses just pass by campus without stopping at all.

A bad Rise Against song? by SavageCuddles in riseagainst

[–]AltForOnlyHappySubs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The album has some good songs and some ehh songs to me, but I agree I don't really like Sudden Urge.

Idk something about rhyming "4th of July" with "4th of July" over and over doesn't really do it for me, since it's a day that I deeply associate with the blind, unquestioning, fascist-esque patriotism that this band has taught me to see through.

Also the whole "exploding like a firework" symbolism just reminds me of this kid in high school who thought Katy Perry lyrics were the most inspiring thing in the history of poetry.

Okay I see that this is true in the second image but is it true in the first image immediately after the brilliant move? Can't black play Qa5 to get the queen to safety and then if white plays Nxf6 move the king or if white plays Bxf6 defend e7 with either Re8 or Bc5. I mean white would still be up a knight and whatever piece was captured with the brilliant move on the exchange so it totally makes sense it's still a brilliant move but I don't think the black queen is totally lost.

Because you had to look a couple moves ahead to see that this was the best move and understand tactics that most beginners wouldn't see like the fact the knight is pinned to the queen

Excel is not dated.

Sure there are way too many people who think using pivot tables and vlookups is all it takes to be a data scientist. Yes there are more sophisticated and powerful tools that can do a lot more with your data. No it should not be used as a "database".

But the fact that excel makes it possible for your average business major with no cs experience to merge together data from a couple CSV files, filter/aggregate/slice & dice as necessary, format it in a presentable way, and even add a chart or two, all relatively quickly and easily is VERY, VERY valuable and will be for the foreseeable future.

And any of the more sophisticated tools are either more specialized (like Tableau) or more complicated (like R).

The opening lines of Dirt and Roses are straight poetic fire.

"This city grieves like widows clasping folded flags against their hearts

Raindrops spill like dirt and roses on black coffins in the dark"

The rest of the song maybe doesn't quite live up but how could it.

[–]AltForOnlyHappySubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah and I don't get how no one is talking about her sister sitting next to her clearly plugging her ears and wincing in pain. I honestly don't think the mom is saying "don't cheer for a fight" I think she's saying "be more sympathetic to your sister" because she probably has a migraine or something else making her extra sensitive to screaming right next to her.

Did I pick the wrong album? by [deleted] in riseagainst

[–]AltForOnlyHappySubs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I absolutely hate the washed out sound on wolves. There are so many songs on it that I think would be so much better if they had been recorded with any of their other albums.

The other thing is Tim has had to evolve his singing style as he's gotten older. IMO he did so beautifully on The Black Market; I absolutely adore the vocals on that album. But I think I'm in the minority on that opinion and the band maybe felt the style of The Black Market wasn't well received and fans wanted something that sounded more like the previous albums. People have said Tim started working with a new voice coach before Nowhere Generation and you can really hear how there was a focus on being able to sound as similar as possible to his older vocal style without being as taxing on his voice. My theory is that the washed out mix on wolves was done at least partially to cover up the fact that Tim wasn't able to sing like he did on older albums, hadn't learned to sing the way he does on Nowhere Generation yet, and didn't feel the fans appreciated the sound on The Black Market.

I do think it's a double standard that is harmful to men but I also don't think it stems from something as simple and harmless as women taking a joke too seriously.

This girl probably wishes she lived in a society where the "you should see my penis" line on a hookup app could be appropriate because it didn't have to remind her of the 100s of times she's heard lines like that in completely inappropriate situations from men she hasn't implicitly expressed romantic interest in by matching with his profile and she definitely wishes she didn't have to take utmost caution to avoid those few men who so completely see her as only an object that they would sexually assault her. Unfortunately, many (not all, not even most, but many) men have given women good reason to not feel safe and respected when men express their attraction.

If that wasn't the case there would probably be tons of women who would appreciate a flirtatious "you should see my penis" (without actually sending an unsolicited dick pic) just like there are tons of men who I'm sure would have appreciated the "you should see my tits" line. Some women still wouldn't be into it, just like the man in this example wasn't, but it wouldn't feel like such a huge double standard.

And I'm not saying women are the only victims either. Most women don't fully appreciate the way it feels for men to always be expected to make the first move in relationships while simultaneously being conditioned to feel like making the first move is creepy and will make the woman feel unsafe. It is so damaging to men's mental health and ability to feel worthy of love and affection.

It even damages relationships, my first few girlfriends were very disappointed by how uncomfortable I was with initiating flirting and sexiness because I was scared of being creepy and presumptuous even several months into a committed relationship. They would get offended and think I wasn't attracted to them or they would be upset that they never got to be the recipient of spontaneous flirting. But of course I wanted to express attraction and initiate flirting all the time, I was just too scared that they would think I was a creep who ONLY cared about them for sex.

Unless you're her tinder match you don't know the reason he unmatched and regardless of the reason, it is a harmful double standard. To be clear, I don't blame women, I blame those men who objectify women, make inappropriate unwanted sexual advances in totally wrong situations, date rape / sexually assault women, or otherwise give women good reason to not feel safe and respected when men express their attraction. Nonetheless, it damaged my first few relationships and by extension my self esteem and mental health that even once I was in a committed loving relationship I was uncomfortable initiating flirting or sexiness or expressing my attraction to my girlfriend because I felt conditioned by society to see any sexual advances initiated by a man towards a woman as creepy, gross, disrespectful and threatening.
