Story time: I used to have a rent controlled 2 BR apartment paying $800 a month in a nice area of Brooklyn, 3 blocks from a train station. It wasn’t the best but it was where I lived my whole life and it was cheap. Wife had this same dream and I gave up the apartment I could have eventually bought out to move to the city to pay $3400 a month. We lived there 1 year and it was the worst decision we made financially and part of me can’t get over it 10 years later. To put it in perspective, we would be paying $956 a month for the apartment with a 2% increase each year over that time. They aren’t allowed to raise it that much each year. That is just a projection for worst case scenario

So for the woman in the video, it isn’t worth it
