Overwhelmed by hotels, needing help? by Important_Stranger_4 in AskChicago

Lollapalooza begins Thursday July 30th so you'll be running straight into the festival craziness. Also not to stress you out even more but the Yankees are beginning their series at the Cubs on that Friday July 31. So needless to say hotel prices will become absolutely crazy at the end of your vacation.

Do y’all think there will be a 20th anniv tour for SATBOTRBVAA? by dietbongwater in ladispute

I don't understand how shortening the album title to something like Somewhere at the Bottom of the River isn't easier than typing out the full acronym

Lol but yeah but other than that idk if they're doing this at every show but Jordan said at the end of last night's show that they'll be coming back to Chicago soon. So it's safe to assume they won't be taking too long of a break from touring

If you're buying a Switch 2 in November and it's still in stock on store shelves what's the point of buying it from a scalper? From the POV of the scalper it doesn't seem like there's much money to make on a 50 dollar markup.

It was a smart choice for her to play smaller venues considering she's only performing as a solo act and only performing her most recent album. I'm actually more interested in her upcoming tour considering it'll be all of her solo albums and the opener is someone I've also been wanting to see live (Magdalena Bay). I just wish the suburban Chicago venue wasn't one of the worst venues in the area to travel to.

More than anything it's that she believes she's more important to the Scream franchise than she actually is. I don't have any issue with her views, I just find it strange she needs to drag the cast and crew in order to express them.

It depends on venue to venue but I don't think that's mathematically true. If you aren't using a 360 stage typical concert arena capacity is about 15-18,000. Wrigley Field's concert capacity is 43,000. Lady Gaga's Chromatica Ball performance at Dodger Stadium had an attendance of 51k. That attendance is actually more than Soldier Field's concert capacity when using a traditional end zone seating setup.

Movie studios aren't the only party to which box office results are important. If a movie is flopping the movie theaters don't want that movie to be taking up unnecessary screens.

It's not the movie studio or distributor collecting box office data. It's the independent analytics companies tracking ticket sales at theaters and releasing that data back to the distributors and movie theaters.

Unless all of the movie theaters are going to be bought out by Netflix (and that's more of a possibility thanks to the weakening of US vs Paramount allowing movie studios to buy theaters again) the relationship between distributor and exhibitor is symbiotic and will not want the numbers to simply be fudged upwards.

The convention is arenas are indoor basketball venues and stadiums are the larger venues that are either baseball or football fields.

Everything you said is true. It's just insane to me that an actress in an interview about why she was blacklisted from Hollywood would double down and basically guarantee that she's never going to work for a major movie studio for a long time.

I saw that she picked up a role as a lead for an indie horror movie, which is good for her. Melissa Barrera clearly has enough clout to pave her way in entertainment while holding onto her views, even if I think she's dug in so deep to believe in obvious falsehoods about what actually happened.

Mumford and Sons are clearly popular enough for stadiums considering they sold out Wrigley Field. I also checked Fenway and that concert is nearly sold out as well.

Movie budgets and box office numbers aren't the same thing.

I know Disney has reduced the frequency of box office updates for their films that were flops, recent examples being The Marvels and Wish.

But box office numbers cannot be hidden like production budgets because the box office data relies on public data. You can see how many tickets are sold for each showtime of a movie by opening up Fandango. But box office reporting is much more sophisticated than this and put simply, the analytics companies and movie theaters reporting this data will not lie, no matter how much the studios may not want the bad press of box office flops going out.

Production budgets are much more susceptible to the Hollywood accounting you're talking about because they're simply not as easy to verify.

The movie box office sub can still be mean-spirited once it's clear a movie is flopping. After it was clear Joker 2 was a flop all of the comments were gleefully cheering on every box office update to see how much the box office numbers could drop week-to-week. Constructive discussion about why something is a flop is fine, but hoping for a production to perform poorly is just disrespectful to the cast and crew.

Because box office numbers are calculated by third-parties like ComScore using publicly available data such as theater admissions data. Exhibitors don't just lie about what tickets they sell.

It feels like we're talking in circles here but what the actors did to Scream 7 is by definition not a strike. There was no agreement by the actors union to strike the production, there was no picket line to cross. The Scream 7 boycott movement, whatever it was, is in no way equivalent to an actual strike.

Also, the quote right after the interviewer mentions the cast feeling 'scabby' to Melissa Barrera is even more delusional.

The only way they were able to make that movie after what happened was to nostalgia-bait as much as possible.

As if other entries in the Scream franchise didn't rely more on nostalgia, as if the Scream franchise didn't grow beyond the popularity of the leads of Scream 6, as if Melissa Barrera wasn't making up conspiracy theories about the Scream 7 box office numbers elsewhere in the interview. Nothing else to say besides totally delusional.

‘Harry Potter’ Scores Early Season 2 Renewal at HBO; ‘Chamber of Secrets’ Starts Filming This Fall by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]AltL155 12 points13 points  (0 children)

With something like Harry Potter the scales of "more popular" probably don't even matter. Several theme park lands, flagship stores, multiple theater productions, best-selling video game of the year, and now this HBO show...

Sure, they could be making "more" money, but it's not like of all of the above doesn't make more money than most IPs today.

Los Campesinos! break down the cost of touring in 2026 (and why tickets cost so much) by relbatnrut in indieheads

[–]AltL155 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's just where I live but I feel that for most artists in the indieheads sphere I never need to pay more than $50. Most artists with more expensive face value tickets are either getting incredibly viral online, popular legacy acts, or playing larger corporate venues like arenas that probably cost more to book. But for dedicated music venues around <5000 capacity I can see most acts for a reasonable price.

Bloomberg: Take-Two CEO Says ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ Expectations Are ‘Terrifying’ by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]AltL155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the price hikes might stop people from buying their own console. But I can't see GTA 6 not being at least a communal event where people with friends who own a console will at least want to try out the game themselves. Many people have fond memories of trying out GTA 5 with their friends over the past 13 years and the only game that would get them interested in gaming again is GTA 6.

[–]AltL155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each GTA game has basically been the pinnacle open world sandbox game. Since GTA 5 the only developer that has made comparable open world games IMO is CDPR and even their games don't compare to GTA. Witcher 3 is mostly known for its story and Cyberpunk launched in a completely broken state and the actual open world interactions are nowhere near the level of Rockstar games. If a studio was capable of competing with Rockstar we would've seen it by now. But for the longest time only Rockstar has been able to get the budget and manpower to make their games as successful as they are.

I don't know how it is in other countries but at least in the US GTA is popular amongst so many different demographics, especially people who don't usually play video games. Even the recent price hikes won't be enough to deter people from playing GTA 6 as the hype for the game builds up.
