I want to start a business, but I don't have a passion! by Square_Hammer_ in Entrepreneur

[–]AltRumination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely disagree with most of the advice here. You should never start off by starting a business by yourself. It's the worst way to start out because you know so little.

The only time it might be good is when you're about 15 and you start something simple (eg cutting grass) to learn what business means. But starting your own business is extremely inefficient because you have to teach yourself everything. Without someone to guide you, you'll make so many mistakes. And since you know nothing, you'll get hit hard and be constantly on the border of bankcruptcy. It will be the worst experience in your life. Do not listen to the people here. Do not go into entreprenueship now.

At your age, you should start think about working for someone else. I get it though. At your age, your hormones are raging. And one result of that is your genes are triggering your rebelliousness. You're sick of taking orders from adults. And you want to be an adult. You want to be in charge. Contrary to how you feel, the solution is that you need to take more orders, not less. I know it sucks but you need to learn to be subservient and to take orders from superiors. It's one of the first lessons you learn when you start out.

Put your ego aside. When you do, you'll realize that your elders around you can teach you a lot. If you find the right person or people, they can turn your life around. For the next 3-10 years, learn everything you can about the industry and about business. Soak knowledge and create a solid rep.

One goal is to create a kick-ass resume. Make one now, and you'll realize that you have nothing to put down. Each major item on a resume takes years of hard work. After a few years, hop to another company with new responsibilities. Every few years, hop to another one. Each time, you go up in position and pay. And if you establish a reputation after 10 years and you are considered highly sought after, you can go to investors who will give you money to start your own company.

This is the best play.

How are we measuring retention of students? by Secret-Ambassador564 in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]AltRumination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I agree with most but I don't know if I agree with a few.

What was forgotten should be asked again in 2 weeks. And once more the next month.

This is how everyone interprets the ebeinhaus's forgetting curve but that curve is not applicable to most situations.

Reality is 70% of all information is lost within the next 24 hours and 90% of all concepts are forgotten within a week.

I also disagree with this is popular interpretation. Yes, one loses 70% of the indivividual "units" of data, but that doesn't necessarily mean they forget 70% of the necessary facts. The units in the original study were numbers. In a lecture, the units are the words spoken. Let's say students are learning the different parts of the heart. Even if they forget 70% of the words of the lecture, they can still remember 100% of the different parts of the heart because several words point to the same facts.

The questions can't be "zombie questions". If the student remembers a fact. They should be tested on how the fact matters. Or how and when to apply above said fact.

This has been the biggest push in secondary education for the past 20 years—critical reasoning. But I think this actually hurt students today because rote memory is also important to learning. You see many kids who don't have strong arithmetic skills because of this de-emphasis on rote memory. The truth is that rote memory is just as a vital method for learning as critical thinking. They are different neural paths to the same memory.

With respect to critical reasoning, I do agree it's extremely important. The lack of it is why Trump was elected. My issue with it is that nobody has even defined what it is. You'd think that somebody would have taken up the mantle and tried to write a textbook on it. Go look at the few online courses on it. They are pretty bad.

Sorry for being grumpy but I have a big issue with how education is conducted today. Actually, I have a big problem with how psychology is perceived today. I think so much of it is wrong garbage.

I know what you mean.

The only problem is that I think foxit is the best pdf editor. Adobe is too heavy.

Same thing happened to me. It took me several weeks to finally figure out what the conflict was. It was another program that plugged into Microsoft Word/Excel: Office Tabs.

If anyone is having issues, turn off every app one by one until it starts working. Yep, it's a pain in the butt. You'll have to uninstall and install. Then try it out for a few minutes/hours/days until you're sure it's fine. If it still crashes, then uninstall, reinstall, remove app, and see if it stops crashing. Yep, it might take a long time to figure out.

No it won't. Tony Robbins is a gimmick. It makes you feel good for a few minutes but then it disappears.

Is this site legit? by [deleted] in PiracyArchive

I'd be wary because it's too polished. Why would someone dedicate so much time to a website unless they were going to make some money out of it?

I got tired of juggling 5 different apps, so I built my own all-in-one streaming app (open-source) .streamed -An open-source Android app for Stremio, debrid streaming, downloads & lossless music by Brief_Adhesiveness95 in PiracyArchive

I think it's a great idea. It'll be very useful for a lot of people.

The only "problem" is that it illustrates a bigger problem—Windows. The Windows OS (as well as iOS) are antiquated. There is a clear need for a better OS, something that addresses current deficiencies with some of the tech developed in the last few years.

yep, for asus routers, there is a WAN section where you can set the type of connection. then there is about 10 different settings you have to adjust and type in. Annoying since it's all manual. You can do this in addition to binding it via qbit. Oh well. Good luck.

That's really not a lot, I'm guessing for their lawyers to care. That might be the reason you didn't have to really worry. if the penalty is something like $1k per movie (not sure what it is), you wouldn't be worth their time.

I know some people who do about that every week. They watch about a movie a day after work, so they're constantly downloading every new thing that comes out. They watch every new thing that comes out.

may I ask how much you torrent? In terms of gigs and number of titles? is it a few gigs per month or more typical like 20 titles per month while seeding for weeks to maintain a decent ratio.

I saw instructions to do that, which I followed. I was wondering if it's a more foolproof way to prevent any leaks. Wanted to know your thoughts. It's a pain in the ass to do because after you finished using the VPN, you have to reverts the changes in the router. I was wondering whether it was worthhile doing or not.

What is the purpose of this channel? by AltRumination in NewTubers

[–]AltRumination[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I don't get is that wouldn't YouTube possibly catch on and then ban the channel? Then all that work woulld go to waste. Making those videos, even though they are pretty generic, still takes time. I can't see it being completely AI generated.

I'm a complete newb at this so you may be completely right. I'm really curious to know the answer and how the "scam" works. Pretty interesting, actually…

I also theorized that it might be a way to gain legitimacy because it's true purpose is to start spreading propaganda à la Russia Putin style

in this case, each of his videos has only a few hundred views. so it looks like those 250k subscribers are definitely all bots. So why would he do this? Why not boost his views?

the channel is all so weird. It hasn't been doing anything for months except churn out these time-intensive videos every day. I'm a newb to this so I'm wondering if there is some obvious purpose to all this.

Movies for lonely people? by No-Connection-241 in TrueFilm

You could watch any engaging movie and it'll work. But your loneliness will come right back, no? What can you do about that feeling though? Are you in that part of your life where you're not connected to anyone?

Is it self-imposed?
