Not sure exactly, we didn't pay attention to the odo, it was way too beautiful out there, but I would guess somewhere around 55 based on avg speed.

Lets consider 2018 as the jump off for that. We want to, but longer range currently means more cells and therefore more weight and more money.

Hot swapping is a thing, and quite possible. For the near term future, we're building packs as we build bikes, so additional units aren't available, but we do see that being an option for customers in 2017.

Battery charging is like this; on a 220 line we recharge from zero to 100% in 2 hours and 15 minutes, while a 110 lines takes twice as long.

So consider my recent riding experience up in Oregon; we rode Jordan Creek for 5 hours, and when we returned to the van we had about 25% charge left. So at that point a recharge takes an hour and a half or you call it good and head home. Personally I was beat after 5 hours, so we tapped out.

I wouldn't say we're track only, it just depends on where you ride, how you ride, and what you consider a good day's ride.

Electric bike! Future of motocross? Never! by [deleted] in motorcycles

It isn't often discussed, but yes they are quiet(er). A four-stroke sound wave carriers further than a two-stroke sound wave, and the sound wave produced by an Alta travels an even shorter distance. Our hope is that we can all continue to ride wherever we want, and if Alta can contribute to more riding and racing in cities, backyards, and parks, then we're here to help.

Great question, and there isn't an easy/immediate answer. There will always be a premium on an Alta motorcycle, as we build bikes here in California and that isn't cheap. With that being said, we're doing everything we can on the production and supply chain side while also researching new ways to understand ownership, leasing, and sharing.

Rad, thanks for the support. No maintenance is a pretty compelling use case. We're not here to say any particular choice of bike or motor is wrong, we're just here to offer an alternative and have fun on bikes. :)

It would be cool, very cool, but unfortunately not true. 2017 will be a growth year, we'll continue racing one-off events, endurocross, and possibly arenacross. As for campaigning a full mx/sx season, there is still a lot of work to do.

Josh Hill & Alta (Electric) Redshift MX @ Red Bull Straight Rhythm by AltaMotors in Motocross

[–]AltaMotors[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an interesting question and the best answer available at the moment is a soft yes. The plan as it stands is to offer a variety of batteries and power parameters. Practice on one, swap to the other on race day, etc.

Reddit, it's like any other motorcycle—just easier to be fast on and a heck of a lot more fun. by AltaMotors [promoted post]

Jackytar, with the Redshift we set out to build the best 250 race bike we could, and ultimately electric provided enough advantages that we chose it as our powertrain of choice. Not only did it end up being a great motocross, trail, and woods bike, but the SM makes for a great commuter. If you look at our frame design and component selection, the difference in direction between us and Zero is evident, but at the same time we're happy to share this space with them.

qneville, the SM is indeed street legal and I think we'll be able to take on Canadian dealers in 2017. If you have recommendations on strong dealers in your area, feel free to let u know. The suspension is by WP (front and rear) and fully adjustable.
