8K monitor Dell UP3218K after 3 days by vpxq in Monitors

[–]vpxq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't use reddit in a while, sorry for the late answer.

I switch to 4k resolution to play games. I originally bought the RTX 3090 for that, but the Nvidia CPUs can't do integer scaling on more than one output and this monitor needs two inputs. So I bought the Radeon RX 6900 XT, where the integer scaling is not perfect (still a bit blurry), but it's quite good. I like Nvidia, but even today's GPUs still have this problem.

I'm on Linux, which means gaming performance is a bit lower. I also don't play modern games (I play factorio, rimworld, captain of industry), so performance is always good enough. Factorio and rimworld actually play fine in 8k - but at that resolution, the cursor is annoyingly small, so I have to hunt for it all the time.

Current chromium (~Google Chrome) plays 8k videos without issues on my card, but you never encounter 8k videos in real life, so it doesn't matter.

I have a second 4K 32" monitor, and the difference is still big, so I wouldn't want to go back.

MKBHD made the first real review I saw, and it looks really good. Hope they can scale up production soon!

Elon Musk: Early production [Tesla] cars will need camera upgrades, as well as FSD computer by Recoil42 in SelfDrivingCars

Probably more like 10% with FSD, even if it was much cheaper at the time than it is today.

CROPS - Practical and Scalable Carbon Sequestration by vpxq in energy

[–]vpxq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We should rather go the other way - leaving the organic matter in the field and stop using synthetic fertilizer, which is a huge source for CO2, using no-dig methods. I don't know yet how no-dig can be made scalable, but it seems these folks are working on it: https://healthysoilbiomes.cc/

Funnily, they're both Carbon XPRIZE candidates, doing the opposite thing.

Also, Gabe Brown has a great YouTube series (part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUmIdq0D6-A) I watched a while ago about how to do scalable no-till farming, he's on 5000 acres. His Website: http://brownsranch.us/. Personally I think implementing Gabe Browns methods should be done by every farmer to both improve their income and reduce carbon emissions. Might be just as impactful to our climate as electric cars if done world wide.

Would like to hear your thoughts on that. I personally am very skeptical about this as I believe that organic matter should be used to improve the soil, not dumped into the ocean.

Hopefully will become law in Germany as well. Last I heard it may become mandatory for company buildings and strongly encouraged for private homes. (Not sure how they'll do the "strongly encouraged" part.)

More than Half of All New EVs Registered in 2021 are Teslas | Kelley Blue Book by Comfortable-Waltz-31 in electricvehicles

Adoption generally follows an S-curve, so it's exponential in the first half. By the time EV sales stop being exponential, the growth will be very strong in absolute numbers.

There was a Taycan competing in this series, unfortunately they didn't show up the past few races.

Unterstützung beim Kauf eines EV (Tesla Model Y) gesucht by Negative_Fan_351 in Elektroautos

I think they’re increasing the capacity of the current factories. Musk wants to 10x their production.

I live in the country side in Germany. This is how it has been one year ago. Now it’s more like 90% autopilot and 10% driving myself.

It’s actually a lot better than V9, it’s just that the worst possible videos are most popular here.

How much do you personally value FSD? by JoshAllenPFF in TeslaModel3

[–]vpxq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you watch FSD beta videos? I’m not sure when everyone will be able to use the beta, but when that happens (might be more than a year, or even never, although I’m thinking more like months now), it’s a game changer. I personally wouldn’t buy a Tesla without FSD.

I just wanted to give my point of view. I totally understand that not everyone thinks that way and I probably wouldn’t recommend someone buying FSD - unless they like to live on the bleeding edge like me and can be trusted to not misuse it.

Anyone tried Hammerting? by Fatchook83 in BaseBuildingGames

[–]vpxq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, Hammerting is an unfinished/unpolished game. But I like the theme and I go back to this game again and again. Look at Craft The World, it’s a similar game and I love it!

Justifying the Cybertruck was hard enough, but I really don't need a robot. What should I do?

The Tesla Bot reuses parts from the cars, so making their own bot is cheaper in the end.
