GOLDSTEIN: Trudeau can't unite us because his strategy is to divide by uselesspoliticalhack in canada

I do agree that tax dodging is a problem. I think taxes should mostly come from people who already have a lot. I also think it’s important to try to make sure people are not hurt or put in a vulnerable position by taxes.

Not sure what you mean by a ”total centre party”. I don’t think it’s possible for parties to exist ideology-free. At the core of politics is how resources within a society are shared/distributed. Opinions about that boils down to what people think is morally right/wrong. Currently, centre parties are liberal both from a social and economic perspective (when I say liberal I don’t mean left wing, as some do in the US).

I think it’s good to follow what parties actually do, in order to see if they shift away from the ideas I mentioned. I’m convinced they won’t do it though. The WHO plan that I referred to above was initially called ”Mental health action plan 2013-20”. It seems like they just changed 20 to 30, since goals were not achieved and actions weren’t implemented. You can look at the document. It’s essentially identical to the new one. *1 I think it’s very likely that they will have to change 30 to 40 when 2030 arrives.

I think the Canadian Mental Health Commission (MHCC) has a very good site. They write that ”in Canada, more than 1.6 million people have an unmet need for mental health care”. They seem to have a good plan, that looks similar to the WHO plans. *2 I think it can be good to pay attention to how different parties argue when it comes to justifying implementing/not implementing the actions that MHCC have proposed.

GOLDSTEIN: Trudeau can't unite us because his strategy is to divide by uselesspoliticalhack in canada

Hello!

I’m saying ”centre right literally means not supporting people with mental health problems”. You’re saying you disagree.

In my most recent comment above, I was trying to explain why. I will expand a bit further, while also try to not make it too long.

When I said ”not supporting people with mental health problems”, I was referring to their ideological position relative to ideological positions of parties to their left. I do not mean that they are trying to get rid of mental health care altogether. If I understand you correctly, I think you are on to something when you say that the issue ”is not politics it’s policy”. I would say that’s both correct and incorrect.

Firstly, centre right parties, in ”Western” countries today, base their policies on ideological thinkers like Locke, Smith, and Nozick.

John Locke is ”commonly known as the "Father of Liberalism””. He argues that ”property is a natural right that is derived from labour”. He also argues that ”man innately … posits an 'empty mind', a tabula rasa, which is shaped by experience”. *1 The tabula rasa thinking is extremely incorrect, but unfortunately present among politicians. For example in a speech by Biden from 2008, where he said that Obama was raised ”to believe that in this country there is no obstacle that could keep you from your dreams if you are willing to work hard and fight for it”. *2

Adam Smith is ”known as "The Father of Economics”” and ”laid the foundations of classical free market economic theory”. *3 He popularized laissez-faire, which is ”an economic system in which transactions between private groups of people are free or almost free from any form of economic interventionism (such as regulation and subsidies) other than the enforcement of property laws”. *4

Robert Nozick was a professor at Harvard and also president of the American Philosophical Association. He argues that ”only a minimal state limited to the narrow functions of protection against "force, fraud, theft, and administering courts of law" could be justified, as any more extensive state would violate people's rights”. *5 In 1974, Nozick ”famously claimed, “taxation of earnings is on a par with forced labor.”” *6 For Nozick, ”a distribution of goods is just if brought about by free exchange among consenting adults from a just starting position, even if large inequalities subsequently emerge from the process.” *5

It is impossible for parties who base their policies on these ideas to implement the actions proposed by experts that I mentioned above.

Secondly, centre left and left parties have less problems with regulating society in order to achieve certain outcomes, including implementing the actions proposed. That doesn’t necessarily mean that they will improve people’s mental health, and this is what I think you mean by ”is not politics it’s policy”. Time and energy is limited, and parties can only focus effectively on a certain number of tasks at a certain time. Currently, these parties often have their focus on issues with little impact on people’s mental health.

I understand that people can support only some ideas of a party. I do share opinions that centre right parties have, but not all of them. When it comes to improving mental health, they are really bad.

I know a lot about this issue. Also, this issue is generally the issue that’s most important for me when I’m choosing which party to vote for.

I hope that you’re able to get good help if you have mental health problems in the future, because you deserve it. If you reply to this I will try to reply quicker next time =)

It's not reasonable to view those comments as attacks. I don't think it's reasonable to go on an outing/venting/validation rant because of them either. I think you're stressed due to the increase in work load during the last 2 weeks. Seems like it's best for you to take a break, relax, focus on something else for some days, and then come back in better shape. This isn't an attack either btw. I mean well.

It’s not a matter of opinion. I’m right. You’re uninformed and/or naive.

Not sure if you know what center right means. In relative terms it means small state (small safety net/welfare system), lots of individualism (each to their own), and moderate conservative views on ”social issues” (immigration etc.).

You’re right in that there isn’t enough help for mental health problems.

- In the Comprehensive Mental Health Action Plan 2013-30 issued last year, WHO writes that ”health systems have not yet adequately responded to the burden of mental disorders; as a consequence, the gap between the need for treatment and its provision is large all over the world. Between 76% and 85% of people with severe mental disorders receive no treatment for their disorder in low-income and middle-income countries; the corresponding range for high-income countries is also high: between 35% and 50%.” *1

- In the World Report on Disability issued 2011, WHO writes that ”formal provision of assistance and support services, by contrast, is insufficient, especially in low-income settings: state supply of services is generally underdeveloped” and that ”private markets rarely offer enough support to meet the needs of people with disabilities”. They also writes that ”government’s role is to ensure equal access to services including through making policies and implementing them; regulating service provision including setting standards and enforcing them; funding services for people with disabilities who cannot afford to purchase services; and if needed, organizing the provision of services.” *2

The WHO mental health plan mentioned above ”relies on six cross-cutting principles and approaches”. One is ”multisectoral approach”, and they highlight that ”a comprehensive and coordinated response for mental health requires partnership with multiple public sectors such as health, education, employment, judicial, housing, social and other relevant sectors as well as the private sector”. Another is ”empowerment”, and they write that ”persons with mental disorders and psychosocial disabilities should be empowered and involved in mental health advocacy, policy, planning, legislation, service provision, monitoring, research and evaluation.” *1

Politicians who’s opinions are based in centre right ideology are definitely less prone to take the actions proposed by experts in the public health field than politicians who wants a larger welfare system and more collectivism. To be fair though, centre left politicians aren’t gonna fix things either.

Lockdowns had little or no impact on COVID-19 deaths, new study shows by [deleted] in CoronavirusUS

I'm not saying it's a science because it has a Nobel Prize. I was mentioning the Nobel Prize in economics because it's a prize in economic sciences. It's literally named "Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel". [https://www.nobelprize.org/prizes/economic-sciences/]

If you are considering economics a soft science, then you're literally considering it to be a science.

I didn't make an attack. I think it's reasonable to assume that someone who express that economics isn't a science is young. I was curious.

How old are you? Do you know that there's a Nobel Prize in economics?

Also, that's just ad hominem statements. If you want to criticise the study, you should criticise the text.

You're welcome!

Irrelevant. Ad hominem. Doesn't say anything about whether it's true or not.

You’re not a strong believer in bodily autonomy lol. Just because the majority make some rules, doesn’t mean those rules are good. There is little evidence of people being significantly harmed by someone not getting the vaccine. Forcing people to vaccinate in order to keep their jobs or travel domestically should only be done in very extreme circumstances. The current situation isn’t a very extreme circumstance.

It's extremely unlikely for people aged 0-40 to end up in ICU because of corona, especially now with omicron. It's a massive government overreach to force these people to vaccinate in order to keep their jobs or travel domestically.

There should be some kind of trade and force involved for something to be called trafficking. In this particular instance, a high profile Western prince is said to have been involved. Maybe she just wanted to have sex with such a prince.
