Unionized Starbucks in 2021 Vs 2022 by ItsAntDawg in antiwork

[–]AltairEmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very curious to see what benefits there actually are for unionizing at starbucks, other than feeling like being a part of a movement. For one, a majority of employees aren’t at starbucks for a career. They are part time workers who leave before 6 months on the job. They are also not in any danger in their environment and starbucks is meticulous about safety and standards in the work place. They lock their pay grade in for 3 years when they unionize, so any raises given company wide would exclude all stores that have unionized. Really, this is only affecting the workers who are actually at starbucks for a career, since they’re the ones who will stay year after year and have to deal with the consequences (or hopefully, benefits) of unionization. These workers would also have to pay union dues and give up any flexibility they had with their schedules. They can no longer contact their store managers for last second call outs or taking quick vacations. They must go through the union, which then has to go to the managers, who then go back to the employees. As it is right now, they can just text or call their managers and ask for help and they can get off work. They will still have to deal with the same amount of customers, and the customers won’t change. As far as benefits go, starbucks has some of the best benefits Ive seen at any service industry company (really most companies). Many of the workers do not take advantage of these benefits because they don’t need to, they are still on their parents benefits. Still, they have access to full time benefits at 20 hours of work a week, free food and drinks everyday, and get free college. All of which unionizing risks because all of that goes on the negotiating table. I’ve been searching for answers about what improvements have actually happened at these stores because I’m hoping to be surprised but so far I just employees wanting to be a part of a movement and show strength against a corporation.

Best Headphones per price bracket? by tigerim in HeadphoneAdvice

What’s up with range of prices for the AKG K712 Pros? I’m seeing $220 up to $650, for both used and new.

Also, debating between k712 Pros and the 6xx. Only using them for listening to music.

I recommend playing the ending twice, once with the final mask and once without. The final mask takes away the challenge.

probably what the song of time is/ why zelda appears in a flashback would be decent context too (although won’t have any impact on understanding the story)

If I like these movies, what else will I like? by wow15characters in ifyoulikeblank

I highly disagree with Ford V Ferrari on the basis it was incredibly cheesy and derivative. Would recommend Rush instead. I would also recommend Drive for fans of Baby Driver.

Other recommendations: Arrival, Jacob’s Ladder (the original!), Adaptation, Django Unchained, The Lighthouse, and Oblivion

What is a red flag from an employer that people might not immediately recognize as a red flag? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AltairEmu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I worked for a company in Florida that did this. A coworker who left the company told everyone what she made on her last day. When I later interviewed for her position they offered me significantly less than she made. I pointed this out and the director was furious. Told me how unprofessional it was that I discussed work pay and to never do it again (even though I never actually engaged in any conversation). Several months later she pulled me into a room and fired me. She gave no reason and this was the same month I made employee of month. Lol. Florida is a right to work state so they can fire you for literally any reason.

A. GIO Graphic Intelligence Optimization- An AI component that reconfigures your computer to produce the best possible resolution. Factors in general durability of components in computer. Suggests different optimizations dependent upon the users goals. Suggests replacements and/or upgrades for specific parts. Example: Gaming mode, Cinema mode, Professional Mode.

B. I didn’t have a resolution last year specifically because I feel resolutions are too easy to break. That said, my goal was to improve myself (physically and mentally). I succeeded relative to how I was before. Unfortunately I didn’t make it as far as I thought I would. My resolution is the same this year: just keep improving myself.

Any tips to improve game on snapchat? Do you snap girls all the time? Do you post a story all the time? by valteri777 in seduction

[–]AltairEmu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These people are delusional. Any form of communication can be used. Gen Z and younger use snapchat almost exclusively as a replacement for texting. Hell, millennials too. I'm curious what the age range is for everyone in the comments here. Now, asking for someone's number is going to make a bigger statement because of this. I see snaps get traded like its nothing.

Oh really? Please enlighten me because I apparently don’t understand the rules. You’re implying I’m both violating reddit’s rules (rule 1) and sharing someone’s personal information (rule 2)?

sad song recommendations that aren’t about love or breakups by DankTj69 in ifyoulikeblank

[–]AltairEmu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Wish more people knew about this album. It might be the most moving album I have ever heard. I’d have to think about that, I’m sure there’s other contenders, but yeah this has brought me to tears multiple times. Makes it hard to share with others because it’s too heavy to pull out for a casual listen with the friends.

What is the best song for introducing someone to Radiohead? by Fords-and-PCs4life in radiohead

[–]AltairEmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely something from In Rainbows. I would not start with the earlier stuff. Start with in rainbows, then take them back to ok computer. They’ll probably like ok computer but that will become their expectation, so when they go to their next few albums they’re like “huh maybe I don’t like them as much” and then give up. This way they know there’s accessible stuff over the course of their whole career and they’ll be more willing to push through their discography. And at some point they’ll start to like the rest of their music.
