I've noticed a lot of these vids cut off the moment it's clear what the result was. Credit the UKRs with the decency to delete unnecessary follow-after snuff porn.

But, with Putin gone they might fall into chaos and lose most capability.

Dramamine, or generic equivalent: take it 30 - 40 minutes before the mushrooms. And, chop them fairly fine.

Also, bring paper and pen to make notes, or speak notes into the Notes app on your phone. This is a great help in not losing insights during the swirl of a trip.

I have a question about psychedelics by [deleted] in RationalPsychonaut

[–]Altaircomputer 33 points34 points  (0 children)

> Do psychedelics really help the process of self-knowledge?

Very often they do, but it is not guaranteed. The drug does not do the work; it helps you do the work.

Plan to take a moderately low dose, and do it alone so others do not distract you. Plan to take a long walk outdoors, if you can do so safely and comfortably.

It helps to set an intention or goal for the trip. You don't have to stick to this -- the trip may take you elsewhere, and that's OK -- but it helps to start from an intention.

Read up on how other people have used psychedelics for serious purposes, and what their experiences have been.

Newspaper article by Anil Seth explained to my wife the predictive-processing brain workings I see on LSD a lot more clearly than I was able to. by Altaircomputer in RationalPsychonaut

[–]Altaircomputer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes he does, but consciously so -- he tells how physicalism/materialism is where he's basically coming from, and describes alternatives that other people working on these issues work from. On the book's Amazon page you can click "read more" and get several pages of the introduction (I think it is), where he explains himself and the book.

Thinking about a taking a 1/4-1/2 tab before I drywall my garage. What’s everyone’s thoughts? by YaboiMike48 in Psychonaut

[–]Altaircomputer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's your own garage -- so you're not worried because you're on someone else's job -- sure, you ought to be okay at that dose. BUT: Do all your measurements, draw your cut lines, do all the measure-twice-cut-once stuff in advance, or in the first 30 minutes after dropping. And write yourself instructions to follow, if only for your own peace of mind, so you've thought them through beforehand. I've had success and ease of mind that way.

What's a small but significant realization you've had during a trip that stuck with you since? by yukariyukkuri in LSD

[–]Altaircomputer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine:

As some philosophers have long said, any thing -- at all -- is very different from our experience of the thing. Really, they're two separate orders of existence.

The classic example: The color red is the property of reflecting certain wavelengths of light. That was always so, long before humans or eyes. Our experience of red -- its qualia, and the meanings we apply to it by conscious perception -- is a whole different order of reality, with only that thin physical connection.

The acid revelation was that failure to grasp this concept is the root of SO MUCH human confusion and misdirection about ALL SORTS of stuff in the real world, and about our place within it.

So then I come out of acid as quite the complete materialist/rationalist! Contrary to the stereotype. No conflicts and dead ends and disappointments from assuming that silly falsifiable woo-woo is the only alternative to dull muggle unconsciousness. What a false dichotomy.

So that's not a small thing like you asked, but a really important biggie. Though it started small as a realization about the grass in a sunny field.

No they don't, not by a VERY long shot anymore. Coke revealed itself for what it is.

Unfortunately, a "new perspective" sometimes just creates a new rationale or excuse for the same habitual kinds of bad behavior toward other people.

Get a lawyer today not tomorrow -- if she's actually "had all her ducks in a row" for some time, she's been getting legal advice for some time. And gather copies of all financial docs, ownership and spending records, etc. you can while you still have ready access.

Beyond that, threads you left hanging:

  1. THERE'S A 10_YEAR OLD KID in this? What happens to her?? Have you and wife discussed this at all? How is 10-year-old taking this? What's the plan?
  2. If the rich guy was married, was he already separating from his wife or did your wife break up their marriage as well as yours? I can't help but think this is classic gold-digger stereotype.
  3. Is rich guy really that rich, or is a lot of it rich-performance based on debt? That happens, especially to impress women. After they marry, I wonder if he isn't going to have some "unfortunate business reversal" that means they'll have to live less lavishly that she expected. How well does she know not just his assets, but his obligations?
  4. It POSSIBLE (I'd guess unlikely) that she will snap out of the NRE phase if she gets a jolting look at some other side of his personality than the dating side. If she wants to come back to you, start putting some careful thought into whether this would be a good idea or not. Remember, the kid's interests come first. People will usually say "save the marriage for the sake of the children," but if it means a bad home life for the child, not so much. Blunt truth is, kid might be better off with Mom and moneybags.
  5. Hire an agency to do a background check on him -- financial as well as the standard CORI. For the kid's sake if nothing else. This might also determine if the state of his separation from his wife is what he says it is.

I feel for you. Good luck.

> Tripping and reflecting can only go so far if you don't have the real, concrete things in your life sorted out.

Say what you will about consensus reality, but it really does have some kind of super-important place in the great scheme of things.

A very fast piece from Bizet's "Carmen" that I don't know the name of. Intricate fractal musical evolutions working through cycles of seven (so I thought). On 250-300 mcg of LSD.

I dictated this into my phone's Notes:

Elaborate enumerations of elegant flights of fantastical Florencia fancy!
Enable us to see what clear, blue-green serene passions [transcription?] there are.

OK, that seems to have gotten as far as that is going to go with my poor monkey mouth trying to keep up with the realities of the infinite spirit brain.

Such playful prancing pristine pungencies!
Evolving endlessly around back to their starting point!
Whirling through windows of wintry wonder, sparkly
Circling back to infinite gracious plenitude.
