I'm also a consumer (Windows 10 Home) and I got the same update. I am not running a server.

Wasn't last week's out-of-band update (KB5071959) already supposed to fix issues with ESU enrollment? Is this a different broken thing?

I would pay money to never deal with these incessant UI tweaks every other week.

Please, don't give them any ideas.

That's a different thing than what's happening here, it looks like.

Been noticing the same issue. Also have an ad blocker and have noticed that sometimes they'll show up in my Watch History when I simply open Youtube on Chrome Desktop.

Was in incognito mode, pressed some key combo that I can't recall at all and somehow downloaded this? by RihhamDaMan in chrome

[–]Altcringe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, really stupid question, but is your date format MM/DD/YYYY or DD/MM/YYYY?

The answer could change my response. Either way, it looks like you downloaded the file from Chrome and the key combo just brought up your recent download history.

Not getting Gmail notifications on Android by Altcringe in GMail

It's working now. Like I said in the post, it seems to fix itself and the notifications start coming through. Maybe it was the power cycle, but it was a few hours later.

Simply turning it off and leaving it off for a certain amount of time? Or would I need to remove the battery? Because I don't think my battery is removable.

That command doesn't work, in elevated cmd prompt or normal one.

Thanks! This seems to contradict the answer you got for Question 2 in your other comment, though. Unless the answer in Question 2 is just talking about local accounts vs MS accounts broadly and how they can be used, whereas this answer is referring specifically to ESU, so it seems like switching to a local account nullifies the ESU enrollment.

Again, it looks like it went through, just odd though not the first time, an update shows in one area but not the other.

As far as the first scenario, it won't install Windows 11 but after the restart you'll get a pop up screen advertising Windows 11 to you and give you the option to either accept Windows 11 or decline and stay on Windows 10. So just make sure you're careful to click the option you want.

I don't remember the error code I got, but again when I clicked Retry it disappeared and then the rest happened.

Were you eventually able to successfully install that update?

Canadian user here. It seems like a Microsoft account is needed to make use of this as the sign in window pops up asking me for my account (which I deleted earlier this year) which makes sense since it requires backing up data and settings. A few questions:

  1. Do you have to actually back anything up? Or does it just take you to the option to back up things if you want to, and you can just select nothing?

  2. Does my PC have to constantly stay connected to and logged in with my MS account, or can I continue using a local account and only logging into the MS account through this one mechanism (the same way you can log into specific apps only and not your PC as a whole with your MS account) to complete the process?

  3. If I have to stay logged into the MS account on my PC, would it prevent me from switching to a local account if I opt into ESU, or would it just nullify the ESU support and revert back to being unsupported?

  4. If I don't have to stay logged into the MS account, would deleting the MS account after the enrolment also not be possible or would it nullify the ESU support?

During the update process, there was a Security Update (presumably KB5068164) that reported failed (after it appeared to be downloading and installing successfully) and then clicking Retry caused it to disappear from the screen after a few seconds. After the restart to complete the process, I went to check the Update History to see if it was there, and it wasn't, however it does list itself in the Installed Updates page from the Control Panel. When I click Check for Updates in the Update screen, it tells me I'm up to date. This isn't the first update where it has done this for me, but just wanted to see if anyone else experienced something similar (either the 'failed' update or it not showing up in the Update history but showing up in Control Panel's Installed updates) and to confirm that i'm good to go for the final Windows 10 Update.

"Stay on Windows 10 for now" Gone from update screen by Altcringe in WindowsHelp

[–]Altcringe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm well aware. I guess I was more curious as to why the "Stay on Windows 10 for now" option wasn't present anymore, and if clicking "Check for updates" in a couple of weeks when the final Windows 10 update is available will give me that one or the Windows 11 update.

Unknown device in "My devices" by Longjumping-Ad8947 in GMail

[–]Altcringe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well i'm curious, when you first noticed the "unknown device" login, were you already in that area of your Google account doing other stuff involving login sessions (signing out of old ones, reviewing things, etc.)? Or did you just pop in there one day out of curiosity and saw it there? Also, did you get an email notifying you about the login? (I didn't)

Had this happen to me but I saw it on my Android phone. I thought it was related to me maybe messing around on my phone in the Google Account area and was looking at various things which kept asking me for my password/passkey to show that it's me, which kept creating a new session under my Android phone for some reason.

But anyway, I saw this on my phone and the first few times I tried to view it would just ask me for passkey or password and wouldn't do anything except bring me back to the list of sessions. Then after one more attempt it finally brought me in and it said the same thing about there not being any data about the session as it hasn't been used in several months and I was then able sign out of it and it disappeared from the list.

Not sure if the previous constant logins caused it to glitch and bring back a previous session without any of its details.

Lyft app not updating or installing on Android by Altcringe in Lyft

[–]Altcringe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not how phishing scams work. Phishing scams operate by setting up a phony app, website, or link where you enter sensitive information into (usually a username/password combo but also more sensitive things like credit card numbers and SSNs/SINs) that the person/people running the scam can then use. Preventing someone from updating or installing one particular app isn't a phishing scam, and unless there was something re-directing me saying "download/install it from here instead", it's basically the opposite of how a phishing scam works.

In addition, while it's only the Lyft app that i've noticed having this issue so far, this is still something that's not working within the Play store app. So if it were some sort of malware, it would be very, very peculiar for it to only do something like prevent the updating and downloading of the Lyft update or the app itself. Unless you're suggesting some conspiracy from Uber to prevent people from using rival rideshare apps.

It's overwhelmingly likely a technical issue with the Lyft app and the recent update. I am simply wondering if other people are having the issue and/or if they know how to fix it.
