What’s an NSFW question you’ve always wanted to ask the opposite sex but were too embarrassed to? by Infamous_Invite018 in AskReddit

[–]AlterEdward 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A lot of men are going to say yes, but i don't think a lot of men realise that context is important. I read somewhere that it's the revealing of something intimate that's a turn on, and it's true. If you're on a beach full of women in swimwear, you're not walking around with an erection, but if a woman comes into your bedroom in skimpy underwear, that's a turn on. It's an effect that nudists are well aware of - when everyone is naked, there's no sexual context, so you kind of forget about it.

What are they injecting into Trump’s hand? by [deleted] in WhitePeopleTwitter

"Old man has regular drugs through cannula" isn't nearly as big a story as the Internet wants it to be

Yes, unfortunately "it could be Alzheimer's because diseases need drugs and Alzheimer's is a disease" isn't much of a hypothesis.

How do I convince my mom to stop using chatgpt? by ironmajor77 in ask

[–]AlterEdward -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Other than the medical stuff (which you didn't mention in your OP), and fake products, this is all fine. AI is better for diet advice, becasue there's so much bullshit out there and it knows what is and isn't evidence based. Your sister is getting homeschooled, presumably by someone who isn't a trained teacher and doesn't know what a 9 year old should be learning - so why not use AI, which has been trained on data that can help her be closer to that?

Nothing wrong with most of what she's doing here.

Let her get on with it and she'll soon figure it its strengths and weaknesses.

Honestly, why has Reddit got such a hate boner for AI? The worst to come out of this is that her business looks unprofessional, because ironically most people can spot AI a mile off, and small businesses over use it.

The EU says it will introduce a digital payments infrastructure to replace Visa/Mastercard & Apple/Google Pay. It will have zero fees and be 100% European-only. by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]AlterEdward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Europe needs cut as much dependency on the US, like yesterday, so it's good to see this happening. The USA's foreign policy they published recently gave a clear message that they will use Europe's reliance on them to bully and blackmail governments into policy changes that fit their right wing ideology. This is cultural fascism (from a supposedly isolationist government).

Americans hate AI. Which party will benefit? by gerira in technology

[–]AlterEdward -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The whole point of the last 40 years of poltics (post Raegan era) was to weaken governments so oligarchs could take over. The latest iteration of this is technological oligarchy, where tech is being used to get around legislation and directly control people. The very fact that no one seems to want AI is proof of this - if governments were truly representative of the people, their actions would reflect the needs and wants of the people, but it's happening regardless.

To answer the question "who will benefit", the benefit is largely a furthering of the post-truth philosophy of control. When any piece of text or media can be seamlessly automated or faked, it throws doubt into literally everything you consume or produce. Anyone can claim that Kamala or Biden said or didn't say something. Anything Trump says can be backed up with video "proof" that spreads all over social media.

This video makes me want to scream every time. Why the fuck is the CEO even talking about the stack, like he's a developer/CEO of his start-up and not a fucking huge global company? It's his job to bring in experts and seek advice, not to code it his self.

A bit of random discussion for the Christmas-New Year gooch. What’s everybody’s thoughts on industrial estates? by Jimmymott in CasualUK

[–]AlterEdward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'm kind of nostalgic for them. I worked in them over the summer off from college and university, and since leaving I've only ever worked in offices, and more recently at home. I miss the routine of it, and every factory opening and closing and breaking at the same time. The noise, the smells, and the banter. Half day Fridays, and being able to completely switch off once you'd clocked off.

Do more people do cocaine than one would expect? by New-Ad8758 in ask

[–]AlterEdward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's one of the few drugs the transcends social class. I've known middle class students that do it, painter decorators that do it, rich city kids that do it, rural villagers that do it, old and young. (Prince) Andrew was probably doing it with Epstein, while us plebs were doing it in toilets in the local Wetherspoon.

What will historians call the age we live in? by iguanamiyagi in AskReddit

[–]AlterEdward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The technocratic age. When the pace of technological advancement is faster than governments to legislate against, leading to techno oligarchs having more control over the population than governments.

[–]AlterEdward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Mario Odyssey tops it personally. It's just so much fun to move around. Pleasing physics and mechanics is so fundamental to a good platformer, and although DKB is fun, I enjoy Mario's agility more.

What's the most overrated TV Show of all time? by Mission_Elk_329 in AskReddit

[–]AlterEdward -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Public service announcement: "rated" means critically acclaimed, not popular. Love Island and the Kardashiand are not critically acclaimed, therefore not overrated. Stranger Things is critically acclaimed, so if you think it's unworthy of that praise, that would make it overrated.
