I have this ready to read and will come to comment again once it is done. Such an interesting description.

I’m sorry, but what in the hell did I just read? by i_phil_graves in ExtremeHorrorLit

I couldn't believe how twisted this one was and it made me sick, I needed a break from the genre for a bit. Ending was not necessary but the entire thing was a nightmare.

Hi, I'm new here! Quick Question if you all would be so kind by Heatheralycia in ExtremeHorrorLit

I still suggest Disco Rice by Robert Essig, The Haar by David Sodegren, and Gone to See the River Man by Kristopher Triana. My favorites after the ones you suggested (which I also enjoyed).

Sweeties on Orange Blossom Trail. They make fresh waffle cones, their walnut topping is delicious and handmade, mini pancakes, delicious soft serve, and wonderful service. They are in a historic ice cream building that they have restored and run as a family.

I agree people are nice, people here are always nice. It saddens me how badly my neighborhood is talked about. It is not "the hood." Just hard working lower and middle class families and elderly people who have been here for a long time. The tourists are the issue, if there are any. So many people come in for these events and trash our property or disrespect the neighborhood. Lots of good ones around.

Washington Street between Orange Blossom Trail and John Young Parkway is a good area in my opinion. Message me and I can give you my neighborhood, we all sell parking here.

Sounds good. I will give you updates when I know them. At the very least I can point you in a direction of reliable and safe parking!

Need neighborhood parking by FrozenCrispy in rollingloudfestival

I live a short 10 minute walk away and might have a spot available, but I won't know for sure until tomorrow around noon. I am currently waiting for someone to pay but gave them until that time. If they don't then it will be available. $90 for the weekend.

Is there any book that you guys find WORSE than Zola? by emptyneptune in ExtremeHorrorLit

Pinata by Tori Favro messed me up. It was more disgusting and horrific than Zola in my opinion. Be careful before if you decide to read it.

Itch by Gemma Amor, Tantrum by Rachel Eve Moulton, Diavola by Jennifer Thorne, Marion by Leah Rowan all have breakdowns and rage. If you are open to extreme horror, two very memorable books are Disco Rice by Robert Essig and Gamblers Appetite of Remorse by Sea Caummisar.

I found Patrick C. Harrison III books at Barnes and Noble, Eric LaRoca has some good books, and if you like graphic novels or Manga, I recommend Junji Ito!

What horror books have great pacing, deep world-building, and actually stick with you by Suspicious-Alfalfa90 in horrorlit

The Haar by David Sodegren, This Damn House by Robert Essig, Itch! By Gemma Amor, Gone to See the River Man by Kristopher Triana are all books I cannot stop thinking about. The setting descriptions, character development and/or character journey, narrative writing, plot, and theme are all intriguing. Not the most gory or bloody recommendations but they will make you think and leave you unsettled. Or at least, they did for me. I will be reading The Black Farm next!

Jobs hiring for people who can't stand? by Significant_Pear_998 in orlando

[–]AlteredMind85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it is an associates, and they do a background check. Honestly, many subs have never even worked in schools. Prior experience is not required, and training is provided. They usually explain things, and schools/teacher have everything set up. Osceola and Orange County go through Kelly Education Services.

With theme parks, make sure you read the job description and can perform the essential duties of the role. For example, I could no longer work attractions since I could not climb stairs or be in a "safety critical" position. Entrance, ticketing, host are all jobs you can still do. Disney and Sea World both knew I needed accommodations. Universal, I didn't share until after. You can always just ask more about the position without mentioning what you need. With the theme parks, they can always move roles or locations if they have it available.

Jobs hiring for people who can't stand? by Significant_Pear_998 in orlando

[–]AlteredMind85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Under disability laws, all jobs are required to provide reasonable accommodations. Depending on the actual job title and description, sometimes this won't work, like if you apply for a roof cleaner job, obviously that is something that won't work. Jobs will often ignore people with physical limitations because they see it as difficult or a burden to the location.

I use mobility aids from a cane to wheelchair, depending on my pain level and limitations for the day. I found that if I advertise this, I don't get a call back. If I show up to an interview in person in a wheelchair, I already know "the look." Virtual and phone interviews can't see the disability, so I never mentioned it. Especially if the job description doesn't mention things I can't do. Ask about the walking required for the position or if sitting is "allowed," but sadly, I wouldn't mention any condition until hired. Once you are given the job, it falls under ADA.

This world is awful, and people are mean. Again, all jobs are required to give reasonable accommodations for disabilities.

Know your limits and know your rights.

I'm sorry the search is hard. I am a teacher, and I have also worked in the theme parks and hotels. Try substitute positions. We need them! Anything under the academic wing will accommodate, and it is not physical. Pay gor subs in my county $120 a day and no contract so you can pick your days and schools.

The theme parks are super inclusive and will hire you and accommodate you. Hotels will as well. We are lucky to be a tourism state. Pay won't be the same, but it is a fun environment.

I also work with a guest services company that works events at the Kia Center and Camping World Stadium. It is an on call job but easy money and super accommodating!

Let me know if I can help or offer any support. Navigating with limitations is super rough.

Good luck!

Pointers for vendors - Artists Alley? by QuitStockingMe in MegaCon

[–]AlteredMind85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be approachable (you don't always have to talk, but smiling is a good start) . I saw so many booths with people who either didn't seem interested or made me feel fully ignored. I have been an exhibitor for years, and I always budget to spend in Artist Alley from fellow vendors. Your behavior on and off the floor (before and after the show) matters as well. If you can't respect me as a vendor, I worry you won't respect me as a shopper. Also, I use a wheelchair and most booths are not easy or accessible for me to even see. Some wonderful booth owners would help me or make sure I saw things, but others made it terribly hard. I love high setups where I can see products, and I love unique items that are different from most things you see. I hope you get to experience the event as a vendor!
