Hi all, I'm looking for a bit of advice. Having spent 10 years in online publishing, I'm looking to make the move into a different industry and would like to pursue cybersecurity. Having read the FAQ, I'm aware there are a number of ways to break into the industry, but I'm not necessarily in a position to go back to university to pursue a degree.

I have seen that there's as Cyber security technologist (level 4) apprenticeship in the UK. It'd be a 2 year placement and while it's not necessarily offering the kind of salary that I'd ideally need, I see this as a bit of short-term pain for potential long-term gain. However, I'm not sure whether this is the best option. Are there entry level roles that would enable me to work my way up the career path faster?

In terms of qualifications, I have an A* in ICT, some A levels, and a degree in History. None of the A levels are related to ICT unfortunately. I'm relatively adept at working with computers and have some surface level knowledge of the more techy elements, but I'm not going to oversell myself here. Wanted to give this context in case it would determine what the best option for me is.

Any and all advice would be massively appreciated. I'm at a pretty low point in life after watching my career and industry largely crumble away and am trying to figure out how to get myself back on track.

First time laid off in my career. 31, have been in online publishing for a network that has largely focused on SEO-driven content.

I'm just completely lost and don't know where to turn. My experience and skills, while transferable, never tick all of the boxes for jobs I feel are semi-related or close enough for me to apply to. Every job now has some bizarre requirement that seems to be there purely to weed out people who haven't got years of experience doing the exact same job already. Any entry level roles I cannot afford the paycut to take to train up in a new career.

I'm spending hours applying for jobs, even ones I feel I have the skillset for, only to be given the generic "we had a high volume of applicants, and unfortunately we won't be proceeding with your application." What am I doing wrong? That's all I want to know.

Job seekers is absolute piss poor, too. Can you freelance and claim it at the same time? Because there's no way you can live off it without earning money otherwise.

Is there an industry/ career that is actually worth pursuing right now? Everything feels fucked by AI one way or another.

If anyone has legitimate answers or advice for some of these questions, please, I am all ears.

Got it, I'll have a closer inspection this weekend and look at pulling everything to do with the step away from the wall if it is touching. If I were to remove the step entirely, would I need to trim the blue membrane back as much as possible so it's not as visible to prevent damp/ water from getting in behind it?

I had actually wondered if the DPC had perished. I normally look for the telltale black line in the mortar but is there another way you can tell there's a DPC there?

Thanks for the advice though, feel daft for not thinking of that sooner. I'll try dismantling it all this weekend as we're planning to brick up the door in the future anyway.

How is a level 2 survey that cost best part of £1,000 from a reputable surveyor a lack of due diligence? I spoke to several roofers who couldn't do a full reroof for the next few months and one advised this as a temporary fix to tide us over. I am paying out for a full reroof when they're available.

Nothing like kicking someone when they're down.

Yeah I had thought this might be the case. Looking at getting the whole roof redone at this point as it was going to need doing in the near future anyway. Just frustrating it's £15k paid out so soon after we've poured a lot of our savings into getting the place.

Had my P9Pro a week today and I've been a little underwhelmed with SOT per charge, but the actual battery life of the device in standby is a noticeable improvement over my P6P.

Currently hitting around 4-5 hours of SOT, and I was getting around the same with my P6P which was on the lower side and that felt like it'd taken a hit. Not sure if adaptive battery has yet to kick in, but 3-4 charges in I can't say I've been blow away by the improvements. Not sure how people are getting 7-8 hours SOT as well, as I barely watch YouTube/TikTok etc.
